If you've ever heard some of the amazing gospel bass players such as Sharay Reed, Justin Raines and Fred Hammond etc...
You'll already know that these guys are seriously amazing.
So, I want to show you a trick that'll help you create bass fills like those guys (and get the 'over the bar line' thing going on)... with just one lick...
Yep - just ONE!
In fact, I'm going to show you how you can get multiple bass fills, by using just one lick.
Oh... and we've also got a VERY special guest in this new video...
He's played with artists such as Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, and many more.
Intrigued?!
I hope so ;)
As always, see you in the shed...
Scott :)

Scott, you always give props to other Bass players which is very honorable. But your awesome Bass playing ability can not be overlooked. And as a Black man that grew up on Funk, you definitely have that Funk in your soul my brother. And it makes me smile from ear to ear every time I watch you doing your thing. Your teaching videos are outstanding, please don't ever stop sharing your positive energy and talent with us Sir.

Hear hear Red! Incidentally, despite all the basses that are out there, all the new shapes, new woods, 5 and 6 strings, etc, there's still no more beautiful bass than a good old Fender P.

1:17 This is what makes music so amazing. Watch the drummer’s face. No matter the style, how accomplished you are or how long you’ve played. When you get in that groove, you have to smile. Love that.
I honestly think this is one of the best videos you have ever done, thank you for sharing.
I'm a sax player and have no bass ambitions at all, but your videos are great fun and always informative! Keep em coming.

Graeme Gerrard I’m a guitar player....and I learnt the bass TO PERFECTION..........in less than a week. #toolofignorance 🕶
You sir, are a legend. I've been listening to this song, even played it at church service a couple of times, and yet, you have put a new twist to it on an awesome lesson!!!
Just getting back into playing after 18 years and stumbled upon your channel. Awesome video. Aside from teaching how to play well, you're demonstrating how to have lots of fun while doing it. Your joy is infectious. Cheers mate!
That's just amazing, I'm a guitarist songwriter (last 50 years) and because I enjoy your wonderful videos! so much, I now have my 'Amoon' bass in hand...So it's down to the studio with this 4 stringed instrument , for 'blue glitter' bass lines. Thank you so much, you not only have a rare love for music but you have that also for teaching, thanks!
Scott Bass... you have the best tutorials, actually ive been playing bass for 10years but I started afresh from your tutorials. You really explain well and my bass playing has changed since
That was a really powerful lesson. It takes everything you already know and puts it in a new context. 3 new contexts really. Thanks so much for this. That unlocked a lot of potential that’s been hiding in an elusive little corner for some time. I’m looking forward to “playing over the bar” soon.
Not only did I learn a cool bass lick but I think I just got saved as well! Thanks Scott!

Amen, now you're a new man, old things are put away, I've been playing bass since 1968 and I can truly say, if you put God first he will put you first keep playing for the church and encourage the people of God, don't forget to learn a little piano too because sometimes single bass notes gets a little lonely when you need to hear a full chord when I put together a song, learning piano will come in handy. Playing bass since 1968 Playing Piano since 2012 I've learned how to play the piano from KZread 12 years ago. Right now it's March of 2024 still on fire.for our God gospel music is all I play amen.
Mr Devine...you spoil us sir!! This is an absolutely amazing and mind blowing lesson - one I'm going to use regularly...don't know how to say "Thank you" enough...needless to say I've forwarded to all my other Bass player buddies...you are an absolute gentleman....
I love that you’re highlighting gospel players. I cut my teeth on these guys back in the early 90’s. Check out Lanar ‘Kern’ Brantley. He’s one of the best. He’s played for everyone, but my favorite gospel session of his is on The Winans “Live at Carnegie Hall.” Tasty slap player.
I love you playing gospel music. Sounding fantastic. This was a really great lesson and something that can apply to any lick that anyone knows or are learning.
So good! Brilliant to take a simple lick and make it so versatile by starting on various beats. My brain just defaults to the same thing every time. This breaks me out of that cycle. And love Israel Houghton! Thanks for throwing in some gospel jams.
Always love your no-nonsense, GREAT engaging presentations. Sir Scott.
April 2020 and I’ve come back to this not to learn the lick but to rewatch your jam at the beginning to the song 😭👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is just awesome stuff.....keep posting more about playing gospel riffs/stylings.....Kudos Scott !
Thanks for FINALLY mentioning some of gospel music's incredible bassists👌👍!
I knew Scott was good, but when i saw this video my respect for his bass playing went through the roof.
Watching how much fun you had while demonstrating this is great.
It always makes my day when I see what a genuinely good time you have recording these - thanks you are such an inspiration
Scott, you rocked that lick! I look forward to seeing more gospel licks like this.
Amazing! I’ve decided to pick the bass back up. Your skills and passion are truly motivational.
This video and its teachings are SO useful, no matter which instrument you play as well! Many thanks!
Such a fun tip - and will be scouring the comments for more gospel players to look at, as I've been really digging gospel grooves lately!
Man you're such a joy to watch playing man. When you're feeling it, you know? I'm a guitarist myself but boy do you have me considering to get a proper P bass!
Thanks so much Scott! I dig every last one of your gospel licks! I'd love to see Maurice Fitzgerald breakdown. 🤜🏾⚡🤛🏻
I love this stuff! Gospel and Jazz are my favourite to play!
Awesome man... I started doing that once I get it.. and my drummer would go crazy every time I did it....thanks man

Du bist ein wirklich toller Bassist. Ich liebe deine Natürlichkeit, deine Einlassung auf alle Bassisten und dein Können!! Wunderbar!!
Great bass lesson!!! Love it! Keep 'em coming!!!!!
Really love matching the theory to the "feel". Putting this in on Sunday!
Scott, you killin it, bruh!!! Great playing, my man.
Scott, I love what you do for my playing, or my attempts to play 😉. Thank you! 👊🏿👊🏿
I bloody love just watching you jam out, so much funk you need to light a match
Always learn something new with your videos. Thank you so much. God bless.
This is my favorite lesson Scott. This is awesome!!!!
Abraham "Abe Bass" Laboriel!
10:10-10:17 was the best part in this whole video. I've never heard any bassists rip the bridge apart like that! STRAIGHT FIREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
You're such an artist man! I just started bass and really digging it! Thanks for the awesome videos!
How many of my absolute FAVORITE gospel players can you include in one video??!? Another couple greats, that fit right in with these licks: Jermaine Morgan and Darrell Freeman!💛 Great lesson Scott.
3:21..... teach my wise one!!! That was the cleanest lick I have ever heard with this song and I love that song lol
Did not think Scott could handle gospel genre!! He is a beast!!!!!!!
Dude, I haven't played in 30 years but this is damn near inspiring me to pick it back up.

god bless u scott . So useful knowledge everytime
Love this! Awesome lesson, just what I needed! As to facultymembers on SBL I would love to see more Gouchè. And offcourse like you mentioned Sharay Reed, but also Robert "Bubby" Lewis...also an AWESOME (gospel) bassist!!!
How cool is this?! I've just filled up with energy for all weekend! Tonight my Funk Blues band is having a gig, I'm going to try out some of this stuff
Thx! You are the greatest! I love Your Tutorials!! Greetings from Germany!
My goodness scott, your bass face makes everyone of these videos priceless!!!!
That puts a lot of things together, even finger positioning, in terms of right hand, and where you are going to be to be ready to drop down to the next string and which finger does what. Reversing that lick would be a cool asset to the fill catologue as well:)
Awesome, that blew my mind. I’m a tuba player and can’t play that lick up to speed, but I have some bits of my own I’m going to try on all four counts!
Great video!
it just gets better and better scott
Really cool! Nice u mentioned Sharay Reed. That gig was Amazing!!!!
Also check out Steve Huff. He was bass player for the Milton Brunson's Thompson Community Singers in 90's. He's a monster bassplayer with great lines and fills.
Letsssss go I’ve been wanting to get into gospel bass, this is perfect
Please do more of this scott
Okay this was fun...it makes so much sense...and clearly you had fun doing this...I mean...I felt that just watching this 🤸🏾♂️🤸🏾♂️🤸🏾♂️
Sir Scott you are a blessing !!
Wow, i am blown away on how awesome u are sir! It made me want to learn the bass. Someday I will learn it. Thank you so much for making great videos.
Thank you ever so much .i can play everything but gospel & was always floored by the playing and a wee bit intimidated at were to even start.
You're brilliant mate and you have got a great attitude. I really like this channel
Fantastic lesson! Us guitarists need to do more of this, too.
Scooooooooott, this is insane....Thanks for the amazing content
great video Scott... can't wait for the new course
What an awesome lesson, I'm definitely going to be practicing this!
Thanks for this breakdown - I'll try it next time we do this at my church!
Holy cow my mind is blown. Please more gospel videos thanks
My mates come to hear me play just to see my facial expressions. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Love your videos. Who knows? I may even get round to subscribing!
Thanks Scott, very useful!
Thank you sir, always learning a lot from your fantastic channel!!! grettings from Chile :)
I've been keeping up with Reggie Young ever since he was a gospel bass player. This back in the 90s with Hezekiah Walker, James Hall and many other Gospel artists. You should do an interview with Reggie Parker another awesome Gospel bass player.
This is awesome! Thanks for the lesson!
Great stuff...! Love that piece and great breakdown. How about more Justin Raines...😊
Just hear those notes and I can feel very happy!!!!
Priceless. We Black folks in states know the UK got SOUL for days. They keep tasty across the pond. Scotty's bass face says it all. Great stuff.
Very Nice man, every lesson keep being better. Thumbs up from Brazil 🇧🇷
This video was absolutely amazing. Love the introduction to Gospel bass playing. When Israel Houghton came up and you started playing wow, More please. You gotta talk to Maurice Fitzgerald, Reggie Parker and Joel Smith.
Dude!! This is so fire!! I'm gonna practice this. It's been a while since I worked on new licks
You are a legend!!! I love your tutorials!!
Haha! You’re bass face is wicked man! Great video. Thanks for the lesson! 🙌🏼
Thanks Scott. Awesome!!! Truly😎
Amazing lesson, Scott. I'm struggling with same-finger raking, and this is actually a fantastic exercise for that. Would be helpful if you could add fingering to your lesson PDFs. Thanks for your generosity on the tube.
Can you post a cover of this song? Your playing over it is fantastic
