How to Plan High School for Homeschoolers || 9th Grade Curriculum

Planning for high school can be overwhelming when you don't know what to do. I go through my process of planning my 9th grader's high school career, and choosing her high school curriculum, so that she can finish on time and graduate under my state's laws.

I have a 7th grader this year and high school is definitely creeping up on us! We also live in Texas, so this video is very helpful and much appreciated.

Thank you so much for sharing! This is new to me, and I have so many questions. Can you please share how to go about scheduling the curricula, as well as how you grade? How do you determine the weight to give to assignments, tests, etc? Also, how do you choose the range of the grade to give an A, for example. How do you go about grading writing assignments? Could you please consider addressing these in a video?

This is the most detailed video I have seen on preparing for high school! Thank you for breaking it down and all of the screen shots. I feel relieved that it is not as complicated as I imagined! May I ask why you chose to deviate from MFW for high school? We have used them pretty much exclusively for the past 2 years and really have enjoyed it. In 2 years my son will be in high school so I’m just trying to plan ahead. Thank you!

Thanks for your comment and question. I decided to switch for just this one grade because I didn't love all of the Greek Mythology that would be taught in the 9th grade curriculum. I hope to use them again for the 10th grade, though, because MFW is really terrific.

That makes total sense. We did Creation to the Greeks this year and I quit reading “The Children’s Homer” to my kids because I felt like it was just a little too much emphasis on Greek mythology. We also passed on a few of the other readings. But other than that we really enjoyed the year.
