I am brand new to homeschooling in New York State and this video was such a blessing... Thank you for sharing I was able to fill out my IHIP with ease. I recently pulled my children from public school because I do not like what is being taught to my children. I have been so overwhelmed and the NY State sites are long and very confusing. This is week one of homeschooling for my family. I have 3 daughters 8th grade 2nd and 4thand they are so excited. I am using some of the ace curriculum and abeka with and time4learning program.

The other day I said Lord I need help please, I want to do right by my children I felt like the public school system was failing my kids. I came across your channel by accident. For my district all I had to do when I did mine was give them a list of the books I was using. I didn't have to give then a table of contents or go into detail. And I didn't have to fill out library skills. So that's interesting that you have to. I wonder if some districts are different.

@@creatingcommunity7022 oh man. I didn't know that. We want to move. Like just 30 mins away or so. So hopefully i don't have an issue. But I wrote down that website you sent me for the legal defense team a while ago if I need it. I wonder what the easiest state is. I know some you don't even have to send in anything and can basically do whatever. How stress free that would be. But then I bet so many kids go uneducated cause they have parents that slack and don't actually teach their kids at home.

@Homeschooling Grammy, thank you for this video. I would like to withdraw my son from Public school, but so scared of doing everything wrong. Especially the IHIP, I don’t even know how to pick the workbooks. What has me in a bit of a frazzle is, I did my letter of Intent and dropped it off at the Superintendent office and the secretary told me that was not the 1st thing I had to do. To go back to the DOE website and fill out the other forms and then come back to them. I’m confused because I know the letter of Intent is the 1st step.

First thank you for doing these videos. I am so stressed and scared to start home school for my 9th grader. I don't know where to start, I've been researching for the last week and I feel so overwhelmed. How do you get the dates to submit yoir quarterly reports? How do you track hours for credits for art, music, PE requirements? Do you have any thoughts on record keeping? We are using some curriculum offered with on line school/instruction but am struggling with the concept of 990 hrs-how to prove this is done? If my child didn't have so many problems with the other kids, I would change my mind!

Yea, NY is ridiculous Though I must say my district must be super lax I've just sent the ihips....no S&S or table of contents Though my qtlys are in depth And YESSSS HSLDA is a must for this state...just reassurance Thanks for sharing...when I first started out I NEEDED these vids as it all sounded so intimidating

Whatever you choose to use is acceptable. That's the beauty of homeschooling. This year we are doing Abeka for health. Studying several composers for music and doing all kinds of fun stuff for Art.

Your videos are always so helpful, I know this is random but I have a question. When you have done a letter of intent and the board of Ed has received it ,also has received the ihip and paperwork,and they have said they are aware and are going over the ihip .My sons old principal is telling me my son has to be in school until the process is fully done.Is this true ? It's been 17 days since they received my letter of intent.

You don't have to out any of that in the IHIP. Just send in the test results when you do it.

Whoa! Is this just your district that requires Table of Contents and such specific info with all of those copies? I've never seen anyone else mention that. I'm about to fill out my IHIP to send in next week, I'm kind of freaked out. One blog said to be vague and use flowery Dept of Ed-relatable language using the "OR plan of instruction" option, so that you don't box yourself in at the beginning of the year by listing specific curricula, and then you can be more specific in your quarterly reports. Like don't give them any more than you're required to by law. Now I'm freaking out on what I should write, how specific do I NEED to be. ALSO, my kids are behind/have special needs and need to go back and review certain subjects, if I have to include table of contents will they not approve if they aren't using material that is specific to their particular grade?? I'm trying to fill in the gaps that their public education left for them. UGH. I just really want to move to a different state!!

I don't worry about following it to the letter. If I decide to change something because it's not working, I just tell them in the quarterly I changed something. No biggie. I am sure you are doing just fine. 🥰

I just stress about it because I don't think many people homeschool around here, (I would guess VERY few,) and I have my doubts about how well-versed the collection of individuals who will review my paperwork are. I really don't want to deal with pushback, I want this to be done, it has been so stressful trying to figure it all out, choose curricula, etc. Especially since I just moved here from a very low regulation state and NOW I'm trying to do this for the first time! 😩 NY makes so many things incredibly difficult and frustrating, like the simplest things are more (unnecessarily) complicated here, so I can't say I'm surprised that homeschool is also that way! 🙄Crossing fingers that it goes though ok and I can just get on with teaching my kids!

@@ericag6876 the IEP questions can be answered by Homeschool Legal Defense. The fee is $12 a month and less if you pay the whole year in advance.

I'm homeschooling for the first time ever for the 23-24 school year and i am now sort of panicking😢 how do you determine the quarterly dates? Also, can we use any books for reading and writing based on where they are at? For instance, my child is dyslexic and I want to use books that are based around helping with that. They also have a tutor for that as well.

You can use whatever curriculum you want for your children. You can choose any quarterly dates that you want. I tend to keep them close to the schedule the district has for public school students, but you don't have to do that.

You are free to choose whatever curriculum you want to use as long as you cover the required subjects. It's the beauty of homeschooling.
