Thank you for making this video! I love how you are able to boil things down and present things simply. It's clear you have a gift in teaching. I'd love to know how you've trained your son in his morning routine and how he stays motivated? My son is 11, almost 12. He's the youngest of my 3. Maybe it's his age, but he wants to play video games in the morning first and then argues or fights me to get school rolling. He likes to wake up earlier than his sisters and I don't want him to loose that, but I hate him not being able to transition from video games to school.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We actually used the Bucket System by Sage Family a couple of years ago and it really helped him establish a routine. My son has always done things on his on time. It didn’t matter how much I encouraged or rewarded, it had to be his idea. He has really impressed me with how mature and responsible he has become. At 12-13, he just wasn’t there yet. We have seen the most growth this past year and a half.

Loved the video … even though I don’t have a high schooler haha Love how you do a loop schedule and don’t try and do every subject in one day . How many cores and electives did you do when your son was in Gr 4? Also, how are you enjoying “Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales”? We are working on “All Things Fun and Fascinating” this semester and im considering this one for my son for next year. He does not like writing but loves Fantasy so maybe this would help it be less frustrating ? I love GR as well .. but by the time we are done Math and LA that’s like 1.5hours up … I’m having a hard time fitting in LA , Math, Science or Social, and a unit study

Thank you! Grade 4 was our first year of homeschool and I totally did school at home. We used Masterbooks for Language Arts and Math. I am pretty sure we used Evan Moor workbooks for science and geography. I don’t even think we did history that year. It is very hard to do other subjects and still have time for a unit study. For years, we just used unit studies and math. We just couldn’t get it all in and it not take forever. As for IEW, it is working great!

@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife Thank you ! Yes .. I’m worried that’s what I’m doing- school at home 🫣I’m still stuck in the “not doing enough” black hole. My son would love to just dive into a subject deeply in all subjects but I’m not there … and I want to be 😶I’m not getting it all in either . He hates History … maybe I will leave it . IEW is really helping him see that he can write .. he’s had it in his head that he can’t write and never will be able to .

Thank you for all of your videos. They always brighten my day! I am wondering - have you used GRH Writing Track for paragraphs, reports, or essays? We are mostly using Campfire, but I feel like I need to add something systematic that is not IEW. Thanks in advance!

@@HomeSweetHomeschoolLife ok, thank you! I’m wondering about using these products instead of a traditional writing program in high school. I love writing, but those famous programs all make me shudder! Also, I’m praying for your mom. 🙏🏼💜

Since you do Spanish 2x a week may I ask how you squeeze in all those video lessons and workbook work into 2 days 😅 I just got ours in and I just don’t see how. I don’t want him to have to do it every single day 😩

At this time, we read our main lesson for Life Skills and do the notebooking page on Monday. Then, we work on it a little throughout the week. My son goes to karate 2 days a week, but that happens in the afternoon after we are finished with school.

How long does it take y'all to get through a curriculum going on this schedule ?? Also do you feel he retains the information with it all spread out?

  • @HomeSweetHomeschoolLife

We will be able to finish all of our curriculum this school year, with the exception of a few things. We spend a longer amount of time each day on the subjects, so some weeks we get three lessons in history and science complete. Level 7 Language Arts will be finished at the beginning of the next school year. I am not trying to finish IEW in a year. The way I see it, I am just teaching him structure. He can apply that when we write in other areas of our homeschool day. His retention has been great. I think it’s because he isn’t bogged down with information every day.
