How to perform Manifest Refraction. Shannon Wong, MD.
Ғылым және технология
If you work in eye care as an ophthalmic technician, medical student, optometry student, optometrist or ophthalmologist, the manifest refraction is a foundational measurement of the eye. The manifest refraction is used to determine the glasses or contact lens prescription of the eye and for understanding the refractive state of the eye before or after cornea or lens based surgeries such as LASIK or cataract/lens replacement surgery.

Thank you so much for sharing Dr. Wong! I am a medical student interested in ophthalmology and really appreciated learning this before my electives.
My office doesn't have an auto refractor. It would be so helpful! Im still learning to refract & I'm getting better but its overwhelming sometimes.
Clearest vision with the least minus, is always the right idea.
Cool technique! Thanks Shannon. Larry
This is wonderful I wish it was a training video for anyone who works little eyes. I have Fuchs and the letters Jump Around. The techs go to fast. I wish I could have you perform a cornea transplant .
Great video. I check my refraction at home using my trial lens kit. Now, 20/20. Thanks
Interesting. Dr: "Coke Bottle Bottom, or Sherlock Magnifier?" Patient: "Sherlock Magnifier." Dr.: "Sherlock Magnifier, or Honey I shrunk the Kids?"
Hello, I have a question, Sir. Should we still do a binocular balance for this case? Coz both eyes are very different in power.
What oct u use ?
Ugh. This is why you should have an OD teach you how to do a proper refraction, and not an MD. A lot if issues here.

There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just not as detailed of a refraction as I would like. He’s also relying on the auto refractor which also something I wouldn’t do
See the auto refraction can give you completely different numbers than a manifest refraction. Unreliable machine useless in my opinion

What’s it useful for and really the use that it’s adopted over time is to diagnose keratoconus. Though this wasn’t what the machine was initially invented for and frankly it just seems like something someone lazy invented
