    Maaaaate absolutely smashed it with this one, it's just what I was looking for. Loved the heavier use of oils for painting rather than just pinwashing, found that super helpful. I'm starting a Daemonkin themed Word Bearers army and I spent 4 hours last night floundering on the early stages of the flesh since I just couldn't find a scheme that looked decent. I tried like six different contrast recipes over Wraithbone (which I've come to hate basecoating with) so I think I'll try this method, although I use a brush not an airbrush. Thanks for this!

    I am loving the new Chaos stuff as well it feels like they looked at their old stuff that everyone liked and said let's stick with that but make it now even more so since all the old stuff was made by hand but we all use computers to do things and well they will look better. Some of the other Chaos stuff felt a bit tryhard tbh ha was fine. Stuff like Nurgle marines line was amazing in my eyes. But these models look amazing hell they can easily be used for Gal Vorbak. Just change some stuff here and there

    Most of the time, my painting falls into something similar to your approach, because I'm far from the type who will spend 40-odd hours on a single 32 mm base miniature. I really enjoy your painting and the mood you create with it, whether it's happy painting or not, Henry.

    These look so good and totally agree that oils really work on Daemons and Organics. Out of interest, do you wait for the oils to cure/dry or do you speed it up somehow? I've made the mistake of varnishing before my oil washes were fully dry and it was a disaster

  • @cultofpaint

    @cultofpaint

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks David. If I have to speed them up then I let dry naturally for 20-30 mins, then use a hairdryer. Things such as the is you use and the thinners will drastically affect drying time.

    My painting environment is my loungeroom/kitchen - I don't have much space so dealing with toxic thinners is a hassle. I still do it sometimes, but I like being able to walk casually up to my desk and paint a few things in a spare moment, and oils don't suit that. I imagine that holds true for a lot of painters.

    @@reubenmccallum3350 Yep I’m in the same boat. The results from oils are undoubtedly amazing, particularly blending, but limited space and a cat who loves sniffing around my work means I only dabble with washes occasionally. The ease of the wet palette and some of the new heavily pigmented paints I just find more relaxing than having to worry about odours and clean up.

    Still very good for undercoating, basecoating, applying varnishes etc. Extremely good for larger models like vehicles and terrain. Really good for.some effects in a way you just can't get with a brush. Every model I paint starts with an airbrush and, quite frequently, I'll apply some sort of highlighting etc. I promise that nothing looks cartoony.

    Been painting for quite some time, I’ve got 9 fully painted 40K armies of roughly 3000-4000 points each and 10 bespoke Kill Teams to boot. I also have a significant amount of terrain. Every model was lovingly painted with a brush and paint out of a pot. Airbrushing is primarily marketed to painters who want to get done faster. I’m not concerned with speed. I paint for enjoyment. To each his own.
