Now, this is how you paint a cloud. Bravo! I like to use a small filbert Tintoretto synthetic brush(I believe they are meant for watercolor mainly) just to cut a bit from blending time.

I really like this tutorial, how you show giving depth to the cloud. I’m having trouble with it only because I’m not doing one big cloud, I have 6-7 small clouds in a sky above a field (using your grass video fir this) which will eventually be home to a teal tree. When I use your technique, the variation of color overtakes the clouds, it would be extremely helpful if you could do a video with a couple of small clouds, identifying the brushes and colors you use. Terms you already use work well, ex. I blended light gray with a medium blue or a dark blue with dark gray. Im truly just a beginner so as much detail as you can give in your instructions will help me and others like me even more. Thank you for sharing your skills with the world.

How many months or years did it take for you to excel in painting realistic clouds? This is incredible.
@brennerfineart
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot :-))) I`ve been painting on and off for nearly 30 years now, but I had at least 10 years where I was so frustrated of the art industry that I quit painting completely. So...hard to say how many years I really spent on painting clouds especially as I only just recently (if at all a couple of years) started to step away from fantasy art to fine art and trying to paint a cloud not just as an addition to the wizard fighting the dragon ;-)))) But once you grasped the principle of seeing and understanding what you see on your reference material, mixing the colour in the correct tone and value, getting on the shape and applying the colour in the right way you basically can paint anything. But it still takes practice to really know how the colours behave, what surface you should paint on, what brushes you need, how much you need to thin down the colour etc. - so learning to paint takes a couple of years to get to a decent level. Getting better after that takes even longer, honing all the little things you do wrong to end up one day with an excellent painting. It all depends heavily on your will to invest the time on the easel. That`s something you NEED to do no matter how many painting courses you do.

Beautiful and nicely explained. - question - which colour of blue did you use. And which colour of blue best represents the sky in summer?
@brennerfineart
3 ай бұрын
I use for all of my paintings just one blue tone - and that is Phthalo Blue...you can mix in ANY other colour to get to the exact blue tone you want to paint - really no need to buy 25 different blue shades, one is really enough to do the job when you know how to mix in the other colours to adjust accordingly :-)
Ausgezeichnet mein freund! From now on, I'll check your videos first. No point watching others' and then relearning the right way after watching yours. I know it takes a lot of time to create realistic paintings, but I wish your videos were longer. Auf wiedersehen!

I will let you all know in the videos when I finally found the time to produce one of these :-)))

@brennerfineart
Ай бұрын
Thank you so much :-))) I apply the first layer, the underpainting (if I do an underpainting) and let this layer rest until it is bone dry. And then I apply the next layer, most of the time the final layer...wet in wet...but you can pause any time you want to, you do not have to finish the painting in one sitting all the time.

Okay, i understand. Thank you very much for the answer and help :)))
Well appreciated do you think it can be use the technique in watercolor?
@brennerfineart
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you :-))) Watercolour might be a bit difficult - you would have to work in layers, because watercolour does not really allow to blend the colours as do the oils that I used here. I have a link in the description box to the water mixable oils that I use, perhaps you might want to give them a try?
Nice! Why do you do acrylic under? Why not start with the white canvas or with medium coated camvas?
@brennerfineart
3 жыл бұрын
My experience is, that darker colours, like the one from the back, tend to "loose" their colourwise apperance when you don`t underpaint. With that I mean, that the colours you INTEND to apply don`t appear the way you want them to appear on the painting surface because the white interferes too much, is too strong NOT to interfer with the layer of colour that you apply. Hope you get what I mean ;-)
