Hi, I am the son of two artists and began painting in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia before I could walk. I was a rare combination of artist and athlete so I moved to Los Angeles in 2008 to play football for USC. I left the team my sophomore year to focus on painting and filmmaking, applying the same focus and discipline from my football career to my art. I primarily work in oils, and spend most free days painting "en plein air" around Los Angeles.

Just wanted to let you know, I just watched your video and got up at 2am to attempt this. It turned out so well and I have just painted some of the best impressionist style clouds I've ever painted. Thank you so much. Clouds have had me struggling for weeks! ❤🙌🏼🎨

Thanks for the video. Great information, especially on how to achieve volume. As a side note, I appreciate the slower pace of the narrative.

I place the sky blue in first, with a dryer brush over white canvas then build the clouds in layers, thinner paint sticks to thicker paint. But, be that as it may, it's the desired outcome that pleases the Artist that's the goal. You do beautiful works.

I've been following your channel for a while, so I recently took your online course and have learned so much. :) I'm interested in creating deep space art. I've been struggling to get depth and good colour blends in my attempts. Your video has inspired me to try painting clouds, but swapping the colours from earth sky palette to nebulae palette. Hoping it'll work! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

I’m painting a backgammon game that I built out of wood and assembled into a case, less the hinges - Big Mistake! Now I have to paint the sky in two separate pieces (each side is the base of the case). I’ve tried several times in acrylics (even with medium) and failed, re-sanding after each attempt because paint dries too quickly. My questions are 1). Should I try oil, and if so, should I make the center of each board darkest, lightening at the horizon line (the design will be boats in a row in the water on both sides of the board, e.g., like a mirror image), or just forget the darker center and just paint it lighter on both sides at the horizon line? My appeal to your painting technique is that you paint the background and clouds at the same time, which I’ve never seen, and I think it would help me. you. 2). Do I have to use gesso as the base? I’d appreciate any advice you can offer, thank you.

Hi, as a absolute begginer I need to know: why did you choose to paint the clouds first and the sky second? Why didn't you paint the clouds over the background?

Oil paint takes significantly longer to dry than something like acrylic. You can definitely paint over it, he most likely didn’t want to wait that long. My guess is for times sake for the video.
