So glad I found your channel! I could never hope to live long enough to be even a small percentage of one with your talent as well as the hard work I’m sure you’ve put into your art. I’m already old as dirt but I find pleasure in art and am especially interested in watercolors. I found you when I saw your video thumbnail of mixing colors. I’m not subscribed and look forward to learning more from you. I know Chris was well pleased with his portraiture. Again, thank you for your alternate ways of doing things. Bless you again and again! 💜👩‍🎨

Hi James.another great video. Thank you for adding the onset of Chris. He made me laugh when he did his cheeky smile at the camera and you made me laugh when you said you were going to pop his eyes in.. Haha! I have not been brave enough to paint a portrait yet, I paint mostly landscapes and florals, but if i did, I would like to be able to do so in a similar impressionistic style.

Hi Stella Glad you enjoyed the video. Chris is a very nice man. Hopefully you will get round to giving a Portrait a go. It really is worth the effort. I don’t paint floral paintings, but I did see a painting the other day that did inspire me, so I think I will be giving it a go and posting it on KZread. So it will be very interesting to see whether it comes off or not! Thanks for your comments again. Best wishes, James

Wonderful use of colour, but I was more intrigued with the bits you didn’t paint. Thought at first it was luck at first until it happened time and time again. Now my daughter has had her turn looks like my son is up next. Painting is costing me a fortune, not in paints but bribes for the children to sit for me!! Great video, looking forward to the next one. Can’t wait. Thank you.

Greatly enjoyed watching your painting evolve. Several times I thought you'd mucked it up - that nose, surely not - but then, like Paul Daniels, you worked your magic. Fantastic use of colours

Hi James, you really cracked this one, Chris must be really pleased as you captured his likeness wonderfully. I've decided to have a go at doing a portrait of my wife, I've done the drawing okay but was wondering about sloshing the cerulean blue on her hair as she is fair haired? You mentioned chess I go blind on diagonals and get caught out by the knights time and time again. Anyway thanks again really enjoying this series on portraits.

Hi Martyn, Glad you like this Portrait. It really was a lot of fun to do. That’s what’s fun about painting from life,in that you can have a chat and enjoy it with someone. It’s great that you’re going to paint your wife. I would probably do a lighter cerulean wash in the hair. And then add the real colours on top of it and for fun a few colourful highlights Hopefully you’ll both have a lot of fun in the process. Best wishes, James

Enjoying these loose portraits. Not wanting to be critical, but I think that you've lost the proportion in the face, - unless it's an optical thing, his face looks wider than it is long to me.....

Hi Steve Glad you’re enjoying the Portraits. Yes you’re quite right the ear should’ve been further right. I did notice halfway through the painting. It’s one of the interesting parts about painting Watercolour in that you can’t correct as easily as you can in oil painting so sometimes errors are made and you just have to live with them . I think it’s what makes Watercolour painting more exciting! Best wishes, James
