This was fascinating video for me. I was amazed at the likeness you achieved in such a short time. It was very interesting to me to see the effect of the addition of the pencil marks toward the end. Those simple marks made his beard read much more clearly. I seem to always want to add some pen marks to the ends of my paintings. I like the more subtle effect of your pencil!

Hi Laura, Poet painting is so interesting. When you paint from life, you have to paint relatively quickly, otherwise you lose your sitter. I do enjoy the pencil marks at the end of the picture. Wow James so nice! The way you do the eyes in your portraits has really been a help to me. Regarding pencil lines after the fact, have you seen many of Cezannes watercolors? I have a book of his sketches and lovely watercolors and it mentions how he consistently would add pencil lines at the end or even in the middle of painting.

Very informative and enjoyable. When you rinse the brush between colors, are you wiping it on the side of the water cup or wiping it off on a rag or something? I tend to get too much paint and too much water in my palette when I am getting some colors ready. So the color is very strong and there is lots of it! I realize it will take much more painting to improve.
