    Thanks for the tips and the links. I have been making my own packaging to mail vinyl and haven't had any complaints or returns, but didn't feel comfortable with my make-shift packaging. I bought some used record boxes at the thrift store, but with the padding I use the boxes become too small to use. I did place an order for some magic mailers with the link you provided, but, since I live on the west coast and they use UPS to ship, the price for the mailers becomes exorbitant.

  • @VinylforMiles

    @VinylforMiles

    I’m sorry but you’re wrong. Discogs mint grading can be opened for inspection but must be “unplayed”. I’ve been selling for quite a while and I’ve had so many returns having to do with manufacturer defects or torn inner sleeves from shipping that it was more profitable to open, inspect and repackage than to deal with returns. The best way to ship a record to avoid split spines is to pack the records on the outside of the outter sleeve which many labels do now with resealable bags, not shrink wrap. I clearly label the listings opened to inspect. I have seen no difference in price when I sell inspected un-sealed vs sealed other than reduced returns for the reasons mentioned above. blog.discogs.com/en/how-to-determine-the-condition-of-a-vinyl-record/

    @Brady Lavy No, it wouldn’t. If the plastic has been broken and the record is still in good shape that holds more value than a record completely sealed with warps and ripped sleeves. A sealed record is not a mint record just because it’s sealed.

    Hey,why don't you stop wasting time and go get a U-Haul box and cut it into 2 boxes,just cut the (2) 16in flaps ,u can even use the flaps as 1 cardboard piece by making it 12 3/8 square ,use a 2nd sleeve And feed the 2 flaps and put them in..u can then put the folds up vertically and score a line to the size exactly of your lp,then center it and put flaps down fold score fold fold,then the extra 3 in 7/8 will be a flap where u make the customer or buyer use his box cutter the right way opening and never have shake issue ever

    Hello. I sell a lot of records and I have had so many "sealed" records get returned to me from manufacturer defects that I now unseal and inspect all my records and put them in upgraded sleeves. I have seen zero difference in value of a mint record vs sealed. You don't have to do this but for me it has saved me a lot of money and time.

    @@VinylforMiles Great vid! I think what most are talking about, when mentioning opening sealed records, are older records that are sealed. Those hold value with the fact that they are unopened. I agree with opening new records to inspect them. Many are not pressed or reissued with the same care and quality as the old originals. Many of those do come with defects. The ones that shouldn't be opened are the old records that were pressed pre-2000s. I own a few from that era that are still sealed. I have duplicates for listening and keep the sealed ones as the Mint copies in my collection.

    yah that's way overkill for me. i am going to try selling some records on eBay and well the records already have the cardboard they are sold in so i will just toss them in an envelope or wrap it in paper and mail it out. this way it keeps the cost down if i do it this way it should cost less than $3 media mail. if i do it your way trying to protect an old piece of junk someone more than likely is using for some art project since no one listens to records anymore then it would cost $7 to ship plus the cost of the envelope. i will ship my way and tell the buyer if they want better they can pay for it and i will offer insurence. i be most people are not willing to pay the extra money for something few people want. records or LPs as you call them are a dead out-of-date formate we now have songs that can be downloaded on our phones and sound way better.
