    So glad to hear. The one thing I can say to all everyone starting out in records is to make sure you have your grading down. Record collectors can be picky so please make sure you have a good grasp on standardized grading.

  • @worldofvintagevibes

    @worldofvintagevibes

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I understand. Knowing how picky collectors can be, I'm taking my time with these and am very conservative in my grading and am describing each record with needed detail. I have the grading standards printed in my listing for reference. I am currently play testing all of the records that I list to document the accurate condition for my ad to stay on the safe side. If I'm unsure, I grade a little bit lower to be safe. I know it's slower going now, but with practice will speed up a bit. In the meantime, I love hearing the music while I list, etc.! Lol

  • @TheAuctionProfessor

    @TheAuctionProfessor

    6 жыл бұрын

    I'd hate for someone to have a bad experience with a collector so I'm glad to hear your being extra careful! We listen to a lot of it as well. For the most part though we do not play test them unless it's a high dollar disc, and then in that case we usually ad a mp3 clip to the listing of the first 30 seconds of each side. Rule of thumb is to never post the whole song.

  • @worldofvintagevibes

    @worldofvintagevibes

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yes, right now as I sift through my records I'm only picking out what I find to be those of higher dollar value and am listening to those and listing them first. Makes sense to mostly just visually inspect lesser value records or maybe spot check some of them. I've seen many ads where it is stated that the record was only visually inspected and I'm sure collectors are used to seeing that on lower value items so it all works out. I love the idea of adding an mp3 clip to the listing of the first 30 seconds of each side! Are you doing this on eBay or only on other websites? I haven't seen anyone's listing on eBay that has included this. I've added KZread videos to my listings before, but never mp3 clips.... I'm able to record vinyl to a flash drive or memory card with my record player but haven't tried it out yet and would love to add clips to some of my listings....

  • @TheAuctionProfessor

    @TheAuctionProfessor

    6 жыл бұрын

    If the record isn't over $200 we don't play them any more. I've graded several hundred thousand records I would guess, and it's just not worth the time. We under grade most lower value records. We post clips from our Dropbox account into our eBay listings on the higher value ones. If you search ended soul 45 auctions, and then sort by highest first you should see a few up that have them as well. The rule on 30 seconds for us is also important as that way you aren't giving away the song. Most high value records we sell say over $200 go over seas to UK, France, Germany, Belgium, and to Japan, and the clips from the records are sold sometimes by the buyer, or have been repressed on new vinyl. Some buyers only want the disc to copy the track, so I stopped including the whole song to make it more enticing to buy.

    I'm a new eBayer and love your videos. Immensely valuable! I have a question about shipping individual vintage oversize magazines. It looks like I need to ship a single issue of Life Magazine via Media Mail if I want to stay competitive. The way I understand things, this is against USPS rules for Media Mail. Am I missing something? I'm an aggressive entrepreneur and want to kill it with this business, but I don't want to endanger my seller status. If I try to ship via Parcel or Priority I'm simply not competitive. Any input or recommendations? Thanks in advance!

  • @TheAuctionProfessor

    The media rate was to be for only regular media minus anything with advertisements in them. Depending on who you talk to at the Post Office you will hear it both ways. I've asked many different Post Masters, and I've been told it's fine, and as well that it's not fine. If it is a vintage magazine then the ads wouldn't be relevant in the slightest, and it should be only a media item. People buying them are buying the vintage magazines for the media content in general. Some books have advertisements in them, and are fine to use media if vintage so that is the basis I've always used. That has been a very gray area for a long time, and one that there is no real answer. I can tell you though I more then 20 years of being on eBay I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for using media for vintage magazines.

    Thanks for the tutorial. Are the 78s expensive to ship when packed in a box? Last I checked, eBay wasn't letting sellers charge more than $4 for a record. Has that been your experience? I'm worried about shipping eating up all my profits.

  • @TheAuctionProfessor

    @TheAuctionProfessor

    5 жыл бұрын

    YW! We ship them boxed at 3 pounds for one, and use calculated shipping for everything. With calculated shipping there is not max amount that I've seen especially in the 78 category, since they all have to be boxed no matter whom is selling them. We ship them media as well, which is very cheap, and we also charge for shipping on everything.

    We don't worry about what the items are mailed in, as they are only designed to protect the item while traveling. The buyer would need to provide their own long term storage solutions for their own collectibles. We always keep our costs down, and buying shipping bags is just another way to do that.

    I have a paper tape machine, and a electronic packing tape dispenser, so much easy for packing and a lot less tape. You do use a lot of tape, but I need to get that tape dispenser you have. There are times that would really come in handy. I would like to ask, do you not feel like it’s much boxing a record like that?? How much did a record like that go for to get so much love? Thanks

  • @TheAuctionProfessor

    @TheAuctionProfessor

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much for watching, and commenting. I have one of the paper tape machines as well, but I only use it for Registered International mail. I've also tried several of the electronic dispensers, but the tape I use doesn't like them. I buy a half skid of tape at a time, and get each roll of tape for .65¢ so this has worked great for me. For packing 78's it honestly only takes me 3 or 4 minutes, as I move face, and have done thousands of time each year. The record sold for $24.50, and was purchased at 3 for $1 so it was a decent profit. If you plan on selling 78's you will need to pack all of them with care as I do. I though don't try to mess with any disc under $20. Those I'll dump in a lot.

    Suggest using "Brown, secure-packaging (fiberglass reinforced) TAPE" with its special "TAPE DISPENSER with water reservoir" to build/secure boxes. Sets permanently in seconds after you place the tape perfectly along the box seams. The brown tape is incredibly strong and makes for a professional presentation. Well worth the investment. Once you try this, you'll never want to go back to plastic box tape again. (You'll even be searching around the house for flattened boxes to make into boxes with this tape and dispenser. I kid you not, it's that much fun!) As for the plastic tape is just not that strong, frequently doesn't cut cleanly, making you have to pick at the tape end to find the edge again. Yes, and the tape is so sticky, it curls back on itself, or doesn't stick flat on the box. You know what I mean. I used to have to use two layers of plastic tape sometimes just to make sure the box is adequately secure. And you know about fingerprints. To make a good presentation, you have to frequently wash your fingers so you don't transfer DIRT to the last bit of tape. Yukk. --- Great video, AP!
