This comment is for those who are frustrated by photo sorting apps in general: It is very important to understand that when you sort the photos, you do not move the JPEG files themselves on the hard drive and Albums are not folders. What you do here is manage a database. You create Albums and in the Albums you list the IDs (lacation and names) of the image files. This way you can have the same photo in many different Albums.

why would a person use albums when pictures should be organized in folders using the file explorer. that's more permanent and remembered when you back them up or transfer them to a new computer. seems like an unnecessary duplication.

Yeah exactly! its been becoming increasing hard to use automatic features to sort photos in folders. i used to be able to do that. now when i import photos from a camera, it just dumps everything into one single folder if i use windows photos app. Am i missing something?

can you tell me how you can get the photo app to import into folders by month? seems it used to do that but now just dumps them all into 'pictures' folder so not well organized on my system!

When you click on a photo, there will be a bar on the frame of the photo that will indicate how big the photo is as you zoom in and out, and currently mine is at the bottom of the photo, is there a way to move it upward

How do you make the album one where you scroll through the photos manually rather than a slideshow that advances the photos automatically?

Hi this is a great video and I certainly didn't know that existed on Windows 10. I personally use Lightroom for my photo collection, but I know 2 people I can pass this onto because they will be able to use it. Thanks so much for this, the majority of your videos are great. Keep safe and have as best a Christmas as you can in the circumstances, and also a Happy and Healthy New Year in 2021? After all things must surely improve for us all next year?

My issue is this. I have thousands of photos in my gallery. When I want to ADD more photos to a PREVIOUS collection, how, without a prompt, as in the better previous gallery, do I do this, without having to SCROLL through all the photos. Is there an answer to this?

Seriously?? It completely ignores file names and randomises everything 👎 No reflection on the tutorial, just the poor quality app

Great video as usual. Unfortunatelty this app scrambles the dates and the pictures. The latest lot of pictures added, according to the app, were actually taken in 2017 although the app insists that they were added in December 2050. Yes I did say 2050. I can assure you the system clock and everything else is fine except this app which is a pile of poop. I would have to go through thousands of pictures to try and sort it out, over 300GB of pictures, so it ain't ever going to happen. The best app for me for organising pictures a few years ago was Google Picassa but like many things Google, once a few people start using their apps they scrub them!

Thanks, very interesting video, I am trying to collect all my photos that were on previous software apps that "went away" like Kodak etc etc.. I assume you have other videos on this subject so will check your site. One thing I want to do after placing them in albums is to put some text on the bottom of some of the photos, how do I do this.. I found a way to add this on Windows 10 but it then wanted me to turn into a video... Just want to add text on photos to remind me of the particular place etc..Many thanks

Great video, but I keep my photos on a separate drive, and when I push the card in from my camera, it asks me what photos, when I click Import Settings it asks about the folder, when I click "Change the import destination" I can choose my separate hard drive and I find my folder, BUT, then it says Add this Folder to Pictures. Then I'm stuck to using my C drive again..

I found a way on to import and sort photos by "date". Actually this was posted on microsoft website by a user. This function sort of disappeared from windows but it is actually still in there. I did exactly the same and now i have a shortcut on my desktop. All i have to do is double click on it and it lets me choose photos and created dated folder like we used to have on XP. 1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop. 2. Click on New 3. Then click on Shortcut 4. If it asks "Type the location of the item:" a. Copy and paste in the following in the box: %SystemRoot%\system32 undll32.exe "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\photoAcq.dll",PhotoAndVideoAcquire b. Then follow the instructions for the shortcut wizard. 5. If it created a blank shortcut on the desktop a. right click on the shortcut and click on Properties. b. In the Target: box fill in the following: %SystemRoot%\system32 undll32.exe "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\photoAcq.dll",PhotoAndVideoAcquire c. Then click Apply.

I was hoping for an intelligent classify by example.

Using an android phone, most of my stuff ends up on Google. A video how to pull down everything from Google into this app would be helpful .....

this only works if you have like 14 photos or whatever. people have 10s or 1000s of photos now. you can't do this one by one like this. need something to automatically sort per day etc.

Another invasion of our life by Microsoft, I think I'm old enough an intelligent enough to organize my own photo but Microsoft as decided it wants to do it for me. I solved Photos App problem by putting all my photos in a non Microsoft folder (Images) so it will not change my work.

This is one of the most crappy photo apps EVER. Absolutely rubbish at allowing manual creations

Yeah swell, and after all that work, and W10 slows to a crawl, a frequent occurrence with W10 and out of desperation you download a fresh install of W10, every album and folder you created is gone. Your mass collection is still there, but all your time spent creating files and photo is gone. Worse yet you cannot export these albums and folders to a external hard drive, no way no how, Unless your trust their one drive cloud storage which has a notorious reputation as being insecure. VISTA was much better than this and it reputation is having been the worst operating system to date.

Yes, yes, YES! But how the fuck do you bring back Windows 7 functionality to Windows 10 with respect to tagging the photos as they upload from my camera/phone?? The assholes in Seattle got rid of this most basic of functions!
