I have a very dark apartment but found that when I keep my plants on the bar type counter top and leave the stove light on they do really well. The fertilizer that I’ve found that works the best and see immediate results is when I use coffee in my plants. My plants had been dying and I found that my tap water is too chlorinated so now I boil water and use a single serve Folgers tea type bag, tho it’s actually coffee not tea and brew it in a small cast iron oriental tea pot. Once is cooled down I transfer it to a container and boil another pot of water and once that’s cooled I mix the coffee with the water and water all my plants. Within a couple of days I saw a bunch of new growth on both my String of Pearls and Hearts. All the new growth was reaching toward the light. I do not use coffee grounds like I’ve heard some say as I had tried tossing the grounds on my lawn and it burned it. My plants absolutely love the coffee! When it comes to bugs on your plants I’ve read to use some cinnamon, as bugs don’t like it so I’m using it as a preventative measure. Cinnamon is also used as a rooting hormone so it shouldn’t hurt your plants. Finally, I’ve also used a thin stick to loosen up the dirt and have sprayed my plants with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water as the roots like to get oxygen. The hydrogen peroxide is also used as solution in some cases for root rot if it’s not too far gone. I’m kinda new to all this but I’ve been really reading a lot about the needs of each plant so I’ve learned a lot. The coffee thing I learned from a coworker many years ago when I used to see her dumping her cold leftover coffee into her desk plant. That plant was gorgeous and from then on I’ve used that tip and believe me it works wonders! Hope these tips help! Happy growing 😊 p.s. I still haven’t quite figured out why my plants haven’t died with as little light as my apartment has. I do plan on getting some grow lights but in the mean time I think the coffee is what’s doing the trick. It’s amazing how fast you see the results. Love to hear how it does for you all!

In Wisconsin and during winter have a wood fire going, temp is 70, and when fire goes out it drops to 62. Summer is now here so it’s warming up to 80’s. I believe they do not appreciate summer humidity. My house is very dry in the winter. Makes no sense.

They were actually like that when I bought it. The brighter light should make them more cream colored because they don't have to photosynthesize as much, like most variegated plants! I've never heard of it reverting because of too much light, it should sun stress them pink and make them creamier!! 💕

That could be a fungal or bacterial issue if nothing else is working. An all natural fungicide should do the trick, I like to use the Dr. Bronners peppermint Castille Soap with warm water, you can add neem oil as well if you'd like. The Liquidirt channel has a video on how to mix up one. Or there is ready to use ones, I haven't tried any myself but Dr. Earth is available at Lowe's and I'm sure similar products as well in other places. I'm not sure exactly what else it could be if the soil has been recently changed and the lighting and watering is right. A lot of the time it's not your fault though! So don't beat yourself up about it either!! I hope that can help at least give you another option to try. It won't harm the plant.

Hi Catherine, I'm so glad you've been enjoying my channel!! When it comes to bringing a new plant home we have to keep in mind that we're giving them a completely new environment! It's quite normal for a plants old leaves to die back when put into high light, since they may not have been grown that way. But in time the new growth comes in tolerant of the new environment and higher light! It should be totally fine in an East window though, so long as its getting sufficient top down light!

But I came to watch this because I just bought another “string of” and when you mentioned top down light I immediately took it to my kitchen where I have no windows but my under the cupboard lighting is awesome and my begonias love it, so that’s where my turtles will live.
