    Jeez I wish this was taught to me when I started. It's so important and something I've only really started insisting on recently after watching your videos (this is after several years of training). I've been focussing rolls on just never letting my head get controlled and that alone makes a big difference. Add underhook avoidance and it's a game changer. This shit is gold. There is a YT video of the Ribeiro brothers rolling for 40 mins and I counted the number of times Saulo's head got controlled in that time...zero,

    Check out the Bernado Faria / Robson Moura video called "How to never get your head controlled" (or something very similar). It likely won't result in you never getting your head controlled (obviuously) but he has a very cool trick where you can turn this defence into a powerful attack.

    Tbh I can see why people wouldn't like that. Not that I personally think it's too bad, but many I think would. BJJ practitioners are softer than wrestlers as a whole. But it's to be expected as BJJ is a recreational sport for many. Wrestling is primarily a competitive sport. 2 different cultures.

    @JordanTeachesJiujitsu What practicality confuses me is how come the right side of the top player is closest to the bottom player, but the left side of the bottom player is not the one closest to the top player.

  • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu

    @JordanTeachesJiujitsu

    5 ай бұрын

    @@maalipaas think of like you have to travel over your opponents whole torso to get to their far side. It's from the perspective of each individual. So from bottom halfguard with your right leg on on the inside, their right arm is closest to you. You need to travel past their torso to get to their left arm which is near side. Then same thing for the top player but from their perspective. How that clears it up. I didn't want to go in depth with the explanation in the video because I worried that would also be confusing and figured people might be confused either way unless they already you the terminology.

    O detalhe. A defesa para não ser finalizado na guilhotina foi muito importante. E eu preciso lembrar desta postura dos braços no treino. T-Rex. Muito obrigado pelo vídeo.

    Hey Jordan, you have some huge legs. How often do you do resistance training each week? Do you have a video on your non-BJJ workouts?

    When I'm not lazy I usually do 3 sessions per week of strength and conditioning, but my leg size is really just due to genetics. They've always been like this and I passed it down to my kids too. They all have huge thighs!

    Its crazy that after 5 years of training, I do all of these defenses instinctually through trial & error. Jordan, you are saving people years of training with these videos.

    @@JordanTeachesJiujitsu what i appreciate the most on your channel is the concept based teachings;) its easier to remember and apply… like in Salsa probably new comers want a bunch of flashy moves but at the end of the day sound basics will always offer the best returns;)

    I've been going for about 90 days, 6ft tall, 160 lbs and I'm pretty sick of getting smashed. I keep reminding myself to be humble, remember all these guys weigh more than me, 90 days is really just enough time to realize how little I know. But my last class there was a guy that did his first day, I could tell he weighed at least 200lbs but shorter than me and the whole round was me just "surviving" him smothering me. I can't sweep these heavy a** guys and yeah it's annoying to roll with someone in their first day and just getting crushed.

    Im the same build as you and have been going for about 5 months. Your experience is the same as mine. I get smashed so much that my best defense is when I'm full mounted because I get put there the most. Idk if this makes you feel better knowing you aren't alone lol. The best advice I can give you is use your hips. You gotta learn to not be flat. Use your legs by bridging to knock them off balance. Disrupt their base. This gives you a better chance of sweeping them and creating space so they can't smother you. A 160 pound guy can move 300 pounds with his legs.

    I'm also the same build. I have been training for about 2 and a half years now. it will get better if you keep going, 90 days is not enough to have a good understanding of the leverages to overcome the difference in weight.
