Here is a summary of the key points from the video: 1. We often struggle with consistent execution of our high-performance habits despite knowing what we need to do. 2. Identifying a "domino habit" - one habit that autocorrects other behaviors - is key. 3. Research shows "temporal landmarks" like Mondays or birthdays produce a fresh start effect. 4. Adopting intraday temporal landmarks every 24 hours creates a continuous fresh start. 5. Map out temporal landmarks leading up to your domino habit and set alarms for each. 6. These alarms act as "hinges" prompting you to shift behaviors to stay on track. 7. This reduces cognitive load, simplifies decisions, and outsources time management. 8. Implement this in 3 steps: * Identify your domino habit * Reverse engineer temporal landmarks needed to achieve it * Set alarms/hinges for each temporal landmark 9. Turn with each hinge to stay aligned. If you miss one, turn with the next. 10. Following the hinges leads to hitting the domino habit which autocorrects your day.

I would take this a step further for me. I use different types of music for different tasks. I would pair those alarms to that music. Hearing the music that pairs with that activity would help trigger the switch in my brain making it easier to transition between each tasks. Having the same alarm sound still adds a cognitive load at the beginning to figure out what the alarm is the transition. Pairing music starts that transition in my brain immediately. Though I pre conditioned myself to music after discovering how certain music impacts my energy and focus levels. I don’t use the same music to clean as a do when I am working at my desk or working out.

Thanks for the life-changing video, and reminding us how powerful time-blocking can be for focused productivity. The alarms are a great addition. Something that I did that might help others: I listed all of my time blocks in order by time of day, with the number of hours I would ideally spend on each in a perfect day. I ended up with 33 hours worth of time blocks! I kept rearranging and reducing the blocks until I was down to 24 hours that I was excited about. I was able to keep all of my blocks and even include time for things that feel like luxuries. I then put times of day next to each block. I'm sure it will require fine-tuning, but it is a great start. Now its time to set my alarms for the key dominoes, and start knocking knocking them down.🚀

DUDE!!!! I was onto this without realizing what I was doing. This EXPLAINS IT!! However, your version is INTENTIONAL and consistent. Mine was a happy accident and it stayed that way, an inconsistent hack I would deploy on the days I motivated myself to fix things when I slacked off, but when I slacked off, I would slide. I even set alarms to remind me to drink more water. I set alarms for 15 minutes before meetings because I would get so into the flow I would lose track of time and I needed that 15 minutes to wrap up and transition. What was missing for me was realizing that this was a strategy that should go across M-F of my week so that I would not just do it when I decided to have a good day, to DECIDING to have a good day, every day. This is game changer for me. I will deconstruct my prior 24 hours to ensure I hit my domino habit. Thanks, Bunches!

Point being, if you're going to go to bed 1 hour earlier 3/4 nights a week, it averages out to 30 mins earlier over 7 days. So maybe instead, go to bed 30 minutes earlier than you do (rearrange your schedule ever so slightly) everyday and you won't have to think "what time do I go to bed tonight", it will just be automatic and hence, save you precious brain points.

5 daily prayers in Islam, if done properly provide us with the same results as Muslims, the timings of these prayers also shift accordingly with seasons by expanding and shrinking, helping us to stay more naturally aligned with life/nature. Requires you to stop everything, disconnect, wash up, pray (meditation). etc. It's a lifetime commitment, and holistic, not just about being more productive materialistically, but settles and alleviates the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual pressures allowing for recovery.

Use regular meals as "natural" hinges, and split them into two sets: start and end. My best mornings are: 6am swim/breakfast/meditate, 11am snack, 1pm lunch and end dinner by 8pm, read/sleep by 9pm. Thanks for explaining the benefits, I kind of gravitated towards these habits, but never thought of them as being systematically useful until now!

Another thought - with farming, some of our hinges are kinda built in. Certain things have to be done at dawn and/or dusk, for instance. Can't do anything about the inevitable unexpected such as stray dogs or trees falling on pasture fencing, but I guess if we're looking for hinges and ways to schedule, we have to start with the mandatory and then block around that based on priority... which is hard. But i guess for tasks that have nebulous or nonexistent endpoints, I'm gonna start with blocking an hour or two per day for them and see if I can fit it all into 24 hours and if I can force myself to stop work at the allotted time and move to the next thing. Maybe we also need to plan backup activities in case weather interferes with our originally scheduled activity? 😅

My notes: ### Domino Habits - A daily habit that positively influences the rest of your behavior throughout the day (for most people waking up early) - Acts as a trigger for automatic execution of other high-performance habits ### Temporal Landmarks - Dates or events that create a distinction between past and future selves - Utilizing temporal landmarks within a 24-hour cycle can lead to continuous fresh start effects and promote behavioral consistency. - Enhances consistency further with intraday temporal landmarks ### Implementation - Map out the temporal landmarks within your daily routine - Set alarms for each temporal landmark to create triggers that prompt behavior adjustments and facilitate progress throughout the day - Alarms act as hinges, guiding you from one activity to another and maintaining alignment with the domino habit ### Why? - Reduces cognitive load by dividing the day into manageable segments - Simplifies decision-making and outsources time management - Allows you to be more present, increasing your ability to enter flow states and improve focus - Facilitates efficiency, productivity, and alignment with desired habits ## His Routine - 5:30am Wake Up and Flow - 8:00am Reboot Routine - 5:00pm Work Finishes - 6:00pm Finish Eating - 8:30pm Ready for Bed - 9:00pm Be in Bed Ready to Sleep

Thank you so much. I'm gonna apply this method tonight. I have wanted to wake up at 5:00 to work out cause I have a 9-5 job this summer. But I have always found myself hitting the snooze button and often waking up at around 6:10 am. And now I know the reason actually comes from the night before. I usually go to bed at 11:00 pm, which is kinda late if I want to wake up at 5 am the next day.

I appreciate the making of this video, it was very helpful and informative. I am an autistic person and I can really resonate with having temporal landmarks and alarms to notify when to do things. If I may, a suggestion for future videos, may we have a reduction or alternative use to attention getting than the loud buzzing during the Alarm discussion in the "The Domino Habit" section? I didn't expect the alarming to go off and I will admit that I got pretty amped up. (similar to alarms or buzzes for work or phone) and it had me pretty energized unexpectedly.

If I had to give myself a percentage id say around 85% back compared to post infection, It fucking hurt the first 6+ months. You still dealing with some little nagging issues, if you had to give yourself a percentage what would you say your at rn? Crazy I clicked on this video, almost like I was meant to watch it at this exact moment. Great content, keep it up.

I've been doing this for 5 years... ever since I started taking Seroquel for my A.D.D.. It takes me 5 alarms (one every half-hour) to actually wake up, get ready for work, and leave for work every morning, but I get it done on time. There's also a digital log I have to update every two hours at work. So I have silent alarms (with vibration) set on my phone to remind me when it's time to update these logs. Yet, my boss says I need to plan my days better to use my time more wisely, but that's because everything isn't getting done because we're understaffed which they say is our fault because we're not getting everything done... because we're understaffed. Anywho...aside from my ignorant supervisors being ignorant, this alarms thing really works well.

My workflow is dominated by the sun (or the lack thereof). On the winter solstice, its 4:20 pm accompanied by weeks at a time of cold blustery rain. The summer solstice is 9:09 pm with maybe 8 dry weeks to get outside. I lost track of how many times this summer I got home at 10-11 pm after a 5 hour bike ride. I shot close to 2,000 photographs and will now spend the winter indoors wearing a hoody editing them all:)) Bezos started his company here knowing that given a choice, we will stay indoors all winter and venture back outside when we see the daffodils!

Before comming across this video, I used to divide my day with alarms, like when to work out or stop work. But I used always not adhere to it. I always used to keep on working, when the alarm went off to stop work, this would delay my workout regime. With this video, I finally had the aha moment, when I learnt about being disciplined enough to hold on to those hinges, which would maximise overall productivity.

I love the grind, I know that short term comfort such as staying in bed, not working out is very short and I soon realise I made a mistake and then feel terrible the whole day, I feel like I wasted my time. Especially when seeing others on socials talking about the hustle, so I now am in a great habit after reading atomic habits. I know that I feel great 10 mins into a workout, I know how to activate the motivation such as protein shake, music and a reward at the end such as going out with mates. Get into an organised day and you’ll see results quickly. Also, missing one day is fine but never miss two

I’ve been doing something with some similarities but much less ambitious goals for years. I tend to procrastinate as well as be indecisive about everything in life so for years I have been setting multiple alarms throughout my day. I set an alarm for when my bus picks me up for work. For when it’s time to leave work. For when I am going to do my laundry. For when I will take out the trash. Take a shower. I set all these alarms the day of and set them based on my plans for the day in the morning. They help motivate me to do the task at the time as well as remind me so I don’t forget I need to do the task. I don’t like doing things early in the morning personally. And I don’t. Though I don’t have a busy day that personally requires I use the entire day luckily. I am satisfied with my life. Oh and I personally have noticed that certain days I can both concentrate and feel more motivated than others and if has seemed that what happens during the first 4 hours of the morning effects the rest of the day a larger amount than random chance. So I plan on giving your domino event thing a try. Oh and the only alarm I don’t set is an alarm to wake up in the morning since I wake up earlier than I should be anyways with my lifestyle plus I have sleeping disorders so even if I woke up later it would likely benefit and not harm me in my case as well as for more specific reasons with my early morning schedule.

I am so dumb founded I have not heard of this before now. Setting alarms keeps you honest. That has ALWAYS been my problem. I know what to do and I do know when I should do it. But I am so rebellious against my own desire to do things like meditate, workout, eat better and just be more productive. It allows you to focus on the task you are doing and not be thinking about the next process. I have a really good internal clock. I can many times tell you the time down to the minute. However this deep awareness of time tends to have me apprehensive about my use of time. I am implementing this first thing in the morning.

I want to try this. One question is in my mind. This is all good if you want to be a perfect, linear human being. So where is the time to live/be in sync with other people? To have a walk with your friends, to have dinner, to play with kids, etc. Is this maintainable?

I've had a domino habit for a few months now where I do time-restricted eating so that in the morning I'm super hungry and I eat a shit ton for lunch, that leads to me being tired which leads to me taking a nap which leads to me feeling unproductive which leads to me wasting even more time. Biggest shift is really flexing my discipline at lunch time to make sure I eat light and stay alert during the day

Have you considered shifting your eating window to earlier in the day? Or do you find you perform better not eating in the morning?
