A state where people are so involved in an activity that nothing else matters. The experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at a great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.

@@unp4tch3dHonestly, I would take it. If you can immerse yourself in one activity, it proves your love to it. It allows you to learn something at a depth hardly describable in words. Maybe sometimes it felt overdone (and yes, can cause problems) But I would rather find ways to redirect/channel that passing over not having such love at all.

Get into a flow: 1.) Do activities where u are intrinsically motivated. 2.) Do things u want to do 3.) Balance skill vs. challenging 4.) Have clear goals and allow to have assessments/feedback alonh the way 5.) Set a conducive environment 6.) Break tasks into smaller parts 7.) Set clear end goals 8.) Set additional parameters to up the stakes 9.) Dont focus on reaching flow entirely

One thing I noticed that might be considered flow, is when I’m given a task, complete it and go on to do tasks for others without them knowing cause I’m looking forward to the reaction. Nothing else matters, if I’m tired or hungry, and I have total focus on my goal. The minute I’m told to do something else or if I’m unappreciated, it all shatters and I’m done. 😂

I had this occasional experience when I was younger, which someone once called flow. Particularly when I was taking exams, I would get into an altered state of consciousness where I would have intense focus. Time felt like it slowed down. I would hear my thoughts repeating themselves in my brain, kind of echoing. It was really curious, but haven't experienced it since middle school.

I experience it rarely. I think the problem is that our world favors multitasking. People are supposed to do everything all at once all the time, so we go from place to place and one task to the next. It always takes effort to do something new and we rarely stick to doing one thing for hours or days especially with a bunch of distractions every few minutes and a long to do list on which we fear to fail at them, have different wants and needs at the moment or are just overthinking. It‘s hard to get lost in what you do when there is an endless list of tasks you could be doing instead and expectations of yourself. Recently I have only gotten into flow state when I almost failed, but did everything in my power to avoid failing last minute. Personally it didn‘t make me happy nor is it healthy.

I believe different people reach this state of flow in different ways although there are common elements that are crucial for achieving it. Being passionate about something and enjoying it is crucial for me to be in the state where one is completely immersed in the activity. For me, reading is when I reach that state of flow. It challenges my mind but also relaxes me in ways that other activities don't. I also enjoy it tremendously. I am passionate about literature and reading so it's simultaneously challenging, enjoyable and comforting for me. Others might reach the same state while gardening, knitting, singing, running or playing an instrument.

Many people would say that was fear but I don't feel that it was , I was really motivated at that time P.S. thanks for 100 likes one thing I wanted to say that during that period I regularly studied all night slept at 6am and woke up at 10-11 am and I did it because I felt like I have to learn as much as I can.

@@iluvcat There were four basic things which caused me study day and night from the first day I planned to study 1. The first reason is very weird, I thought if I have paid entrance examination fee then I should make most of it 2. I thought even If I do a non engineering course ,after the engineering entrance exam will develop my strength in Physics Chemistry and Maths Subjects so that was another reason to study 3. I always asked myself the most important task in this preparation period for me, which was often studying. 4. I convinced myself that I need to score at least 93 (and I scored 94.72 percentile in the Exam ) because I couldn't afford engineering without scholarship.( Now I am having my 85 percent college fee waived and have to pay the rest 15 percents) I was careful about what I am doing because I have paid the exam fee and I didn't wanted to let it get wasted. My score is low because I had studied for two months and during the last week of exam I had lost the internet access. So I revised as much as I can in last 2 days and then I was very very upset at the end of exam, So If you are going to study for the exam I recommend you to revise because *revision is important* .

As someone who was diagnosed later in life with ADHD I didn’t understand my constant obsession with new hobbies many of which revolved around action sports such as downhill mountain biking or car racing, the actual hobby itself didn’t matter I was chasing flow. It wasn’t until I began a meditation practice and tried psychedelics that I had prolonged ego death, it felt familiar but I still didn’t make the connection to the selflessness experienced in flow. Although I improved the frequency I can enter into flow states and consider them to be up there with the most pleasurable experiences I’ve had I try not to chase the dragon and do my best to ease into with as little thought as possible. I recently won our car club championship and will give a speech at the presentation night and have been wanting to speak about flow states as I feel I did not really contribute much to winning the championship as I felt most of my best performance was entirely in flow and I was just the witness.

Something I found helps is almost refuted in a lot of social aspects we’ve developed into. When activating the flow state.. having the self-aware mindset of “I’m climbing the mountain, and if I go too fast I’ll fall.. but if I just sit here, I’ll never get up at all.” And keeping that direct illusionary feeling in my heart while I’m working gives me lots of flow energy. I noticed it when I used to play lots of competitive games and wanted to improve because of how immersed I would get with them.. but it wasn’t that I was immersed with the game itself, I was immersed with the idea of success. Yes enjoying the genre and specific game I was playing was a factor, but not a necessity. Separating your body/controller from your brain is a real eye opener because of how much we use those functions in unison with things like KZread comments or games that require muscle memory. Try it. Your entire body is separate controls, and with whatever you understand you need to do today.. you’re not doing it, you’re controlling yourself to do it better than you did before.

It depends on 3 things: the mind, the body and you. if your body is too tired: the mind and you have to do the heavy work. If your mind is tired: the body and you must act, but it will be difficult since the mind is the one making rational decisions. If you are too tired: you cant allow for it to happen so easily, the "you" is the most important thing because you are the one that chooses wether to allow the vision of the mind and/or the body. It is an alignement of body and mind, aswell as you. To understand it easier. Accept this: your body and mind have desires and visions. Sometimes you oppose them, you resist some. Others you want to follow. When you think about "im going to my pc I want to play videogames" that urge or thought is a desire. Now you choose to allow it or resist it or ignore it or follow another desire. We have those all the time. So when all three: the body is not tired, the mind is ready and has a vision and thirdly you willingly have chosen to open that door because you think it will be fun, interesting, etc, and follow that vision. Then the inmense focus can happen. Now, remember. If you have not a vision yet. It cannot happen. It can be good. You are just a peaceful being, relaxed in your life. Now you have a vision, but it does not seem desirable, it will take a heavy burden it seems, it will be difficult to take any action. Not all desires are good for you, some will make you suffer and others. Choose this for yourself, wherever you are in your path. And if the body is not in condition it cant happen. Take care of your health. So you will have great results when time comes.

So there is no resistance or force until it is done and then your body and mind doesnt want it anymore. Sometimes it can be the other way around, you want something and your body and mind are ready for it, it can flow. So it is just that you allow your mind and body to focus because you all have agreed to enjoy this vision you have of something. It is natural, if you open all dams without anything inbetween in the river it will flow cause you literally opened it to.

When I first heard about this, approximately 30 years ago it was called being in “the Zone.” I still have the book I bought about it, only the name has changed. Having experienced it from a very young age (from about 4 years old) when engaged in my favourite activity, building with Lego! Time had no meaning for me. I still find myself there at times some 50+ years later , as stated in the video it’s never forced or planned, it just happens.

Right, we sometimes experience this phenomenon in our tasks. When we feel this phenomenon, our concentration is super high, and so is performance level. Probably most people feel thrilled at that moment.

This video is just explaining “The Zone” I’m gonna be honest, the studies and such for trying to figure out how to reach it are nigh redundant to anyone who has experienced this in a video game, but it’s nice to see that it can help others who may not have experienced such an exhilarating feeling

I always would enter flow ever since I was a kid, when doing math homework in class, when playing with legos, I would get sucked into it completing each task one after the other relentlessly without stopping. I’d get into flow when I played a video game too sometimes, and in adulthood I get it when studying language, when practicing piano, when reading. I know I’m in flow because my brain just gets completely saturated with the topic I’m immersed in, and I’m sort of zoned out from everything else, once I stop doing the task, I’m in a total daze and feel spaced out from everything, my brain just oozing with all the information I went through in whatever it was I was immersed in. Then at night when about to fall asleep, my brain is throwing all of the different patterns and data that went through it during my flow state at me in rapid succession (If I listened to a podcast in Chinese, while in bed about to fall asleep I hear like an echo chamber of different snippets of the voices in Chinese, even if I don’t understand everything they say for example) and while dreaming my dreams are filled with the activity or topic I was immersed in, the next morning when I wake up, all the stuff from the last day is crystallized in my mind from the dreaming. It always made it easy for me to learn things with this system in place, as long as I go full throttle like this like total immersion.

I think that whoever do things absolutely enjoy in their life could easily concentrate no matter what they are up to :) So getting into the flow state mostly depends on what you're dealing with.

Hyper focus and flow state are sorta similar. Flow state is more relaxed and in the zone type of focus while hyper focus is actively thinking about the task and can be overthinking it.

As others in the comment section, i learnt a lot about this concept in the popular ongoing anime named “Blue Lock”. I have learnt various topics via Ted but ‘Flow’ and other related concepts were better grasped by me via “Blue Lock” anime. The clarity on this concept that the mangaka ‘Muneyuki Kaneshiro’ provided in the manga was amazing.

for me, it call "getting into the zone" or "zone" for short, coined from the anime kuroko no basket. it a state of absolute, unbreaking zeal for a certain period of time. it extremely hard to get into the zone however, and it can often be very short and once u exit from it, a mass of procrastination and self doubt will follow. kinda like a negative feedback. but once u do get into the zone, all self doubt will flee and u will be able to close the gap on progress very fast.
