how to never create again.

I haven't posted on KZread in more than 100 days, and that's because I've developed three great methods, to never create anything ever again.

It’s been six months since I’ve posted anything. I took a job that completely leeched me of all my time and creativity. I’m recently unemployed again but frankly I’m far better spirits since being let go. And frankly, I can’t wait to start making videos again. Because it’s just so much fun.

Man what a beautiful way to think about seasonality and creative work. Especially when coming back from a gap, you do feel guilty almost if there's nothing big to show. I'll have to be aware of this especially after the Christmas break. Thanks dude ♥️

Comparison to others, anxiety about bothering other people with the camera, and generally worrying about looking silly. I enjoy creating things and that is enough. Not everyone needs to like it or see it for it to be a worthwhile process. I enjoy your videos and they've helped me post a little more this year. Thanks and keep it up.

Somewhere between 6 to 9 times and between 4 hours and 20 minutes. These guys are great, have to love Colorado. Stoked to see you back on here with a new video. The reasons you left are reasons I don’t create. Too worried what I want to create doesn’t fit my niche. At just over 420 subs I shouldn’t let that stop me. 🤣 Also overthinking that my quality isn’t as good as Jake Frew and others when in reality that also doesn’t matter. Also enjoy the breaks, they are important.

I've never paused to look at creativity like other things that have seasonality, but I think you hit the nail on the head. There is a reason "absence makes the heart grow fonder" is a cliche after all. If we don't get the opportunity to miss something, we lose sight of things in the daily grind. And that comment on having something big enough to justify the time off... seriously, that hits home. Keep being you, Jake and keep posting when it's right for you. In the meantime, I'll just hit up the older uploads for the gems I've since forgotten.

Good to see ya (really cool shots with diagonal angle. Trick with log, when the camera was bouncing, was nice too). Sometimes, when I don't want to create anything, I thinking that everything interesting is already made, and there is no space and no need to add something. But fortunelly, I often realize, that even if it's not innovative, maybe I will find something between the repatitions or interpretations. But in pure creation is probably better to do not thing, just act. Greetings from Europe!

Jake, I love your approach to YT and this definitely resonated with me. For us, It's been 5 months since we've posted anything on YT. I've been held back by the same things you've mentioned here. Trend chasing for sure. In regards to #2, something that's been helpful, "Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today". Not my quote but I think it's important to focus on self-development and try to block out what everyone else is doing better or what you wish you were doing. Over-thinking and over-consumption looking for inspiration can stop me from creating as well, rather than just producing and learning by doing instead. Hope to see another video from you soon! Cheers 🍻 P.S. Hope you got the windshield fixed. 🤬 Always hated it when that happened.

OMG thank you!!! This was so needed - and such a beautiful vid! I really have problems with the lapse of time posting. I work full-time as an editor and am a care-taker for my Mom. So trying to pump out a vid every week is theoretically possible - but it would break me in half. And I have the hardest time coming to terms with that. I get crushed over and over again when I'm only putting up a vid once a month. It makes me feel like such a loser. And I don't want to feel that way.

Over a year for me. I need some inspiration to get started again, only I’ve slipped into this routine of doing other stuff and not realising I’ve not recorded anything. This was an awesome video and well worth the wait, it’s going to inspire me to finally get myself shifting and get recording something! And the Jesse Driftwood collab was awesome too! That’s a great thought with seasonality. Maybe when I get to creating for KZread again, I should do it for a few months then take a break for a month or two to reset and then do it again. It may get me to like it more. Yeah the main hang up for me is like i said, getting into a routine of other things away from creating for KZread, if that makes sense. It gets to be an afterthought or not even a thought.

They say kids learn by repeating, things over and over again and not fearing of making mistakes. I think the biggest reason I do not create is that I act like an adult person. I aim too high without really doing any of those mistakes that would make me better. And when it comes to you, your videos - you are one of the most unique creator I follow. I absolutely admire how you combine those beautiful visual elements with a real, well thought out content. Whenever I see that tiny blue dot next to your name in channel list I know for sure I will enjoy your video. I hope you keep creating.

Seasonality is also why I love mountain biking and snowboarding. I also take breaks from filming. These are all great points. I’ve stopped worrying about punching out a video every “x” timeframe and I just casually make my videos now at a pace that works for me. May be why I don’t have a massively huge following but that’s not why I do it so it doesn’t matter at the end of the day.

Would be interesting having to ride / not ride to the seasons, here in Australia the MTB conditions are relatively the same all year long, dusty for 3 seasons then a little bit damp in winter. I only see seasonality on my road bike and gravel bike, I end up riding less in winter because I avoid riding in the rain and it gets a pretty cold. But I couldn't imagine riding MTB multiple times a week! I thought I rode heaps by riding once a week, trails are 15 minutes from my house but the best trails are 40 mins away so pretty close but I do enough bike maintenance as is! I couldn't imagine if I sped up the wear 6x ! Ah crap im comparing myself to people 😉great tips by the way and I agree.
