car companies should mark/label them before they come off the line its a small thing for them to do to have more customer appreciation

how hard would it be to scrape off that vin number, though? supposedly gov. grewsome passed a law yesterday to crack down on buyers. theyre half of the problem. mine was just stolen on the 24th.

Just install a straight pipe until your smog is due. 🤪 Trust me that can def. work.

After old Prius2's new Cat was back from the shop, 2 days later, the CC was stolen again. I had a feeling this was going to happen, but my insurance company had no interest in paying for any additional security measures. My GEICO adjuster said the shop offered to install a protection plate for $400, but I would have to pay for it. My deductible was only $250. A new Toyota OEM Cat takes 5 weeks to get, since they are all on the slow boat from Japan, and costs $2700, since the whole exhaust system is one piece and the sensors to it also need repair or replacement. The 2nd time I left a $100 thick aluminum protection plate in the car while it was at the bodyshop, and the shop installed it for free (which is easy to do once the car is on the lift). Yes, the car manufacturers need to put the VIN on the Cats AND some sort of protection plate. And police need to work with scrap yards and whoever buys precious metals to catch the people doing this to cars.

It’s amazing how they just want make it illegal to buy them . It’s not everyday that someone shows up with several forsale but also keeps coming back til you know him by a first name basis, yet the buyer doesn’t notify the police !!

Crazy as it seems, the problem has a lot to do with the heroin epidemic.. Addicts (especially males) find that this is an easy crime, police don't seem to care, in less than 30 seconds with a cordless saw, the addict can sell the converter for $1000 plus for the next hit.

Ramps would have made it a lot easier.🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Pointless the etching can be sanded off easily.
