@@RALAN-cm4vi keeping your head up is a basic. It makes no difference on the bike. Maybe you are more comfortable on one of your bikes. Your body will follow your head so if you are looking down your manual will go down. Practice the basics and fundamentals and it won’t matter what bike you are on. Practice practice practice. @@saltybmxer6977 i think its not so much that im looking "down" so much as im looking at the front tire. i think its due to geometry that manualing on my freestyle bike has the front end higher and more eye level anyway. with my longer race bike i think im just not getting low enough over the back. needs more crawfish style

Barry you are really THE ambassador of the sport ! Also great to know that you didn‘t have a BMX track closed to your home when you were young. So I have no excuses. My question: would you recommend to start with BMX on a 24“ cruiser instead of a 20“ BMX bike ? I am not the youngest anymore and thought that maybe a 24“ bike is more forgiving when I make mistakes trying to manual or on a pump- oder BMX Track ?

It is more what parts fits with other parts or can i basicly order any part from a store and it will fit with any other part? Example : Can i choose a RSP5 frame and add any handlebar, any stem and so on? Thanksb

@@rs.sweden Nic long is about your height and one of the best ever on 20" wheels but if you like cruiser go for it. Just my non-professional insights are to pay attention to rsp head tube. It's tapered so would need a tapered fork 1.5 to 1 1/8 and then focus on bottom bracket (press fit I believe) and it's possibly a thru axle rear not a standard bolt on. Stem and handlebar combo is preference. Dan's comp has good size chart that can help with stem length and bar height. Make sure stem clamp diameter fits bar diameter.

@@ryanblackmon5830 Thanks, i tried 20" wheels and as a new guy to this i felt it more unstable and like I was going to crash all the time. Most older guys here go for cruiser size so i will start there and when my skills gets better i maybe try 20". 😀👌

Back in the 1980s, there were no rollers. There were table tops and humps. Humps were like parking lot speed bumps, only larger. There were double jumps throughout the bmx coarse. Berms were mostly smaller and ineffective for the speed you were hitting as you entered the turn. Most bmx parks were sand and clay and rock. Not a whole lot of effort went into designing bmx parks. Indoor parks in the mid 80's were the best. But dust build up made it slick once the day went on.

Great tips as always Barry. For those not quite at manual level I would suggest learning a front wheel lift and hopping off the back of the bike before going to manuals. This can be done against a wall. Preferably pointing slightly down hill to make balancing easier. With my riders I like to see how far they can manual before hopping off the back of the bike (elegantly). ❤

The technique that killed BMX. We used to save that for the skateparks. Half the BMX track is a skatepark now. That is why so many walked away. Now, in 2023, we the people are pushing back and fighting for jumps for all and less tippy toeing across rollers. We fix this problem and we will see a major resurgence of BMX racers and a robust bicycle sales market once again.
