How to Make Your Own "Super Bump" Keys

NOTE: I apologize, the audio is two steps shy of absolute garbage on this one. I do not know why or what happened there. I might try to re-do this lesson in the future, but for now here's this version in all its glitchy glory. 🤪

I used to suspect that the FedEx arrow was a coincidence, until I saw one of their trucks in the Persian Gulf. The arrow is on the Arabic script logos, facing right to left, and that requires some 'forcing' of the letters to make it work. Must have been intentional.

UKBumpKeys took the shoulders off and put the Dampeners on nearly 15 years ago. The reason most bump key manufacturers don't sell them 'shoulderless' is because removing the shoulders is labor and time intensive (as your video makes clear) whereas any fool can put a load of blanks into a machine and sell 'not so super' bump keys.

Odd coincidence... I dealt with audio like this at a church one time a while back. Ultimately there ended up being a guy recording music in his basement in the neighborhood nextdoor and the cheap mics we were using happened to be operating on the same frequency. It manifested itself just like this where you'd catch just a tiny segment of his voice or his instrument, and it would only happen in the evenings when things like weddings or youth events were going on at the church, but never on a sunday morning proper. We probably wouldn't have ever tracked it down, as we switched to newer/nicer mics and receivers eventually, however one day a guy who was an active member of the congregation asked us in the sound booth what we'd changed recently. He went on to say that he lives basically right behind the church and used to get interference on his recordings from our microphones up until very recently. Turns out he only ever records in the evenings. Not saying that's what's happening here, but you also might want to just double check that's not the issue. RF shit is fun to play with anyway LOL EDIT: Okay the further along I get, this definitely sounds like how that sounded EDIT 2: Eh I'm not so convinced. The interference kinda follows the tone in your voice

3rd on a Deviant video. Yes! On a different note, I was at a speed dating event last night. Everything went great until they ask about my hobbies, and I told them I'm REALLY into Deviant videos. Bad reactions, I can't figure it out. I tried to be friendly and told them that I had a tool in my pocket that could open any box she had, and in record time. That didn't help things. Changing gears, I confessed that I love sticking my pick into all kinds of really key holes, like in front doors and back doors... Soooo yeah... Big swing and a miss on that one.

Viewers who don't have a Blitz and appropriate cards can easily make a bump key on a standard duplicator, using two keys and calipers. The first can be a waste KW1 or KW5 key. Using a series of cuts of increasing depth, get to 0.189, then cut the key COMPLETELY FLAT to that depth, from bow to tip. Move that key to the "master" clamp. Mark the second ("working") key at each position where a cut is to be made, then with that key in the "copy" clamp, slide the carrier to line up the cutter with the cut marks. Mill vertically ("Blitz style" rather than "ski style") at each of those marks, with the depth being limited by the key in the "master" clamp.

@@DeviantOllam Ah, yeah. I'm not smart enough to know exactly what causes interference issues and dropouts with those types of units but 2.4Ghz systems are especially finnicky because a) they share spectrum with a ton of devices and b) they're lower cost systems with less mitigation built in unless it's something obvious like a microwave, there's not much you can do and most of the time it's just fine so you just roll with it fwiw, I think on the gen 2 kit the transmitter itself can also record a high quality backup track... might be worth the upgrade for peace of mind I also picked up something called the instamic a couple year's back which is just a lil self contained mic and recorder. Like a gopro but for high quality audio. I have it just for fun, but it has come in handy as a plant mic on actual productions and it holds up great.
