DO NOT BUY FROM BUMPMYLOCK! About a year after posting this video the company started experiencing problems fulfilling customer orders. Several viewers lost their money or had their orders shortchanged without resolution. Bump key sellers on the Internet seem to come and go pretty regularly, so make SURE you use PayPal so it will be easy to get a refund. Do NOT send them cash, cashiers checks, or personal checks - the risk of loss is too high. Several large companies now sell high quality bump keys (also called slider keys). Look to Sparrows, Multipick and Peterson.

Bosnianbill, you may want to consider updating the video and upload again to include this info incase some folks don't read the comments. I placed an order exactly a week ago for this set(not just because of your review, price comparison and shipping cost made my decision also). They have yet to ship my order and after researching their company online and through the BBB this weekend I realized I made a mistake. I plan to contact them tomorrow and if they don't resolve this issue for me I will inform them about your review and and subsequent disclaimer and leave my own review on the BBB website.

Bosnianbill, from my recent research(within the last week) "bumpmylock" appeared to be the best deal for a complete set of bump keys(even though they are a sketchy company). Brockhage also offers a similar set of bump keys. They advertise fewer keys but the missing keys are probably not essential. Brockhage complete bump key set: www.lockpicks.com/professional-bump-key-set-30-keys-brass.html

Jacob, Unfortunately UN-publishing and RE-publishing a modified video is not possible in KZread. Once the video is published, that's it. From that point I'm limited to updating the description to warn people. I also pinned a warning comment, so viewers have TWO places to see the warning. Now that you've jumped in with links to the BBB, people will have multiple chances to see the warning, thank you.

So, today, after a couple weeks of back and forth emails about my order with Allison Ditto(BumpMyLock owner or customer service rep) got tired of me and canceled my order, without my consent, that was placed May 14th, 23 days ago. She says I should receive my refund in 5-10 business days.

Bill, I cut my bump keys back into the head/bow of the key about 1/4 to 3/8 inches and use a stiff push spring, and my success has increased and cut bumping time to just seconds. All my fellow locksmiths asked me to make them for them since mine work so well.

Hi Bill, I have noticed whenever I see a video on bumping locks they are always bumped with the pins above the core, yet a lot of Euro locks I see mounted with the pins below the core. Does bumping rely on gravity causing the key pins to drop quicker than the driver pins under the force of gravity or does it make no difference if the pins are above or below the core? Thanks in Advance :)

Getting a set of bump keys like that would certainly be easier and cheaper than the alternative, i.e. getting lots of various locks, copying the keys, and filing them into bump keys. Question: Do bump keys work on pins that have a very high bitting?

Bumpkeys never worked for me, not even once. I tried many of them on multiple different locks and no luck. But all the simple locks with no security pins I can open very quickly using some kind of raking or rocking method with jag pick or bogota. I guess bumping is not for me.

In my old shop the guys who used bump keys fell into two camps, "I LOVE MY BUMP HAMMER" and "Eh, whatever..." For ME at least, I've seen they CAN make it a little easier, mostly to have something consistent to work with so you don't have to pay as much attention to the force of your strikes (too hard and you'll damage the lock, or your bump key, too soft won't do the trick) but it also means carrying ANOTHER dedicated tool (for a mobile locksmith, multitaskers, wherever possible, are preferable... for sport lock pickers / openers, or when you KNOW exactly how you'll go about an opening, it may not be a big deal)... For ME, it's honestly just as easy to use the same thing as a bump hammer over and over...In my shop I use a 1 inch wooden dowel about 9 inches long (which for me seems to work better than any bump hammer I've ever tried), in the field I use one of my plastic automotive wedges... The other advantage of using, and becoming familiar with a dedicated "bump hammer" is you don't whack your fingers as much because of the shape. (no seriously... doesn't seem like it should be a concern, but YEAH, it sucks...) Thing is, bump keys are NOT a magic wand, they're another tool for getting an open. Something as simple and stupid as grit or corrosion in the keyway or one bad (or excessively heavy) spring can make a lock REALLY difficult to bump at which point you better have other techniques in your bag o' skills. .

I think he wanted to know why these hammers are even around, or why they are engeneered the way they are. For example, why is the handle flat? Why did someone decide a bumbhammers handle needs to be flat? I think that is what he wants to know.

It's the deepest used cut for each type of key. For instance, a typical Schlage lock as 9 different depths (plus a 0 "cut" for a non-cut), so you would cut each position to the 9 depth. Kwikset typically just has 6 different depths (with the exception of locks pinned for realtors/construction which typically goes to 7), so you would cut each position to the 6th position.

If you have a machine to cut it to a precise measurement, I could pull up the depth you need to cut it to, but if you're doing it with a file, you can take it down to the bottom of the blade, right before the key way starts. That should be pretty close to what the deepest cut is. Just make sure you keep the teeth between the cuts. That's what makes it work.

Unfortunately, I'm a youtube idiot and I don't know how to pm. I tried clicking on your name, but then it didn't give me any options after that. I'd just say as long as you get your spacing right, you can go pretty deep and it'll still function as a bump key. You can use an existing key of the same type to give your spacing. Sometimes I'll even just take an old key that doesn't work on anything and turn it into a bump key. All of the spacing is already there for me.

Not really a machine gun, more of a semi auto since you have to hit with the hammer each try. Minor quibble.

Someone tried to bump my basement cylinder (mauer), and they only damaged the paint around the door frame. And the cylinder sorta didn't work right for a while, so they probably tried for hours ;D If i kept the cylinder my social housing put on there (corbin el-cheapo), all my worthless garbage would have gotten stolen!

    Is Bumpmylocks a reputable company?

Absolutely, otherwise I wouldn't allow them on the website. Avoid the similar sounding "Universal Bumpkeys" though, it is a scam and they will keep your money and send you nothing. I've ordered from BumpMyLock many times with no problems whatsoever.

I am beginning to wonder that very question myself. I placed an order on Jan 14th w/ free shipping. Ever since, I am getting the absolute run-around from BML. No straight answers. Did my order ship or not? They've sent me a USPS tracking number on Jan 23, but as of today, the post office still says it is awaiting the shipper to drop off the package. I've given BML two opportunities already to either fix this, or explain what is wrong. If I don't get a straight answer by Monday, I'm reversing the credit card charge and they can go F themselves.

Yes, I finally got my order 4 or 5 days after I posted the below. As near as I can figure, BumpMyLocks is not in control of the inventory (wherever it is kept). It seems like it is a drop-ship arrangement, but I have no evidence of that other than my own suspicions. It also seems like they ONLY ship on Thursdays, so if you're not in Thursday's lot, it's an automatic additional one week delay. When I did get an email reply from BML, they placed all the blame on a nebulous third party "they", and I didn't get the impression the "they" being discussed was their own shipping department or other in-house team. Bottom line, it looks like you will get your order, but don't expect much in the way of a timeline or tracking # updates. I didn't get my first legitimate tracking update (other than post office waiting for the item from the shipper) until I already had the order in-hand.

After dealing with them for the last month I can totally relate to your story. I'm still having a hell of a time with them. I made a $135 order Jan 30th. A week later status was awaiting fulfillment and I was told some of the items were on back order so I cancelled those items and was refunded $76. A couple more weeks went by and I'm still wondering where my order is so I message again and they tell me that their system showed that the hole order had been cancelled. If the whole order had been cancelled why didn't they refunded me the whole $135? At that point I'm tired of the BS and tell them to cancel the order (which had supposedly been done weeks earlier) and refund the remaining PayPal balance. That's where I am now.
