41:35 just one thing. "dashi" with no qualifiers is not vegan, it's has bonito in it. "konbu-dashi" is the one made from just kelp. "shiitake-dashi" would also be vegan, but won't have any sea flavors

I thoroughly enjoyed your talk. I was a firefighter for 20 years and knew a lot of what you were talking about and you made sprinkler systems fun! I took a college course that made me want to knaw my arm off and beat myself silly for signing up for it. I also got hurt on the job and became disabled so I went back to school to get my degree in Network Security and Social Engineering was one of my all time favorite classes. Thank you for your videos I am already watching another one. Stay Safe!

Awesome talk as always. A little anecdote in reference to the section around 50 mins with fake service vehicles. I know a guy who got lost and ended up in a "secure" area at Pratt & Whitney, he had a silver Jeep with a Whelen light bar on the roof he used for roadside assistance. He made a wrong turn and security waved him right through a security checkpoint. He was trying to find the way out and started seeing "Restricted Area" signage... He was helping block traffic at a wreck with that same vehicle one time and cops put a guy in his back seat thinking it was a patrol car. He had a net behind the front seats to hang stuff on and they apparently thought it was a cage. Never underestimate what you can get away with when you drive a plain vehicle with emergency lights.

I know someone who's a child of immigrants (with permanent residency thankfully) and a trans life partner in the US. Being prepared like this is vital for people at risk like that so thank you for putting this talk together. In that light I'd like to add something to that list: if you or someone you care about is a legal alien from a country that might go to bat for them keep the embassy/citizen services phone number for their country of origin. All the Miranda Rights and Due Process in the states do not apply to non US citizens. They can, and have, just vanned people.

Regarding setting off carbon monoxide sensors, yes just like smoke detector test sprays there are also CO detector testers. Solo C6 for example. Not cheap, like $40 a can, but they get it done. A TV show I watched long ago (NCIS I think?) had a plot element where someone was killed with a spray of CO gas to the face from what looked like a CO2 cartridge, but I have no idea if those actually exist. Supposedly it was used in photography somehow.

The sad fact of any compliance related field is you're going to spend half your career reminding people that "Probably" is not a term you want to rely on in court. "Eh, it'll probably be fine," is an excuse I've heard so many times. Compliance is generally a whole hell of a lot cheaper than paying fines, handling bad press, and getting sued. So many companies don't or won't get it until you break it down financially for them. Even then, people ignore you. Job security, I guess.

State capitols have all been colonized by liberal Democrats and the airport staff and TSA personnel are mostly liberal Democrats who are intentionally ignorant about travelers with firearms in their checked luggage. Reno is populated by Californians who got out of California, but brought their liberal attitudes with them.

For the CO2 detector, it is pretty simple... think kids volcano. Small bottle of vinegar and an anti-acid. Put it in the cup, put the cup near the sensor... sensor will not be happy.

Just an addendum to the discussion about an Emergency Power Off tie/in. There are exceptions. Datacenters with multiple redundancies for power (Generator, UPS, etc) don’t always have a safe/easy way to kill power during a fire. I know of at least one building the fire department just has it noted to always assume that room is energized. Since it has separate gas fire suppression , they didn’t expect to be fighting fires in there anyways.

Man, I've been wanting to go to ToorCamp since the Moses Lake missile silo days, but still haven't been able to make it work. This post has inspired me to check if any friends are going this year... Similar to Burning Man, I just need to find "my people" and I'll likely become a regular, lol. Anyway, I hope it's a blast (as usual) for you guys this year! Love your art/project!!!

What I don’t understand is why didn’t they adjust the depth of the cutter to a 0 cut to zero out the machine before they started??? Most of the precision tools I get from the factory are close, but they’re not zeroed in… specially when it’s a knock off or a cheaply made tool! Not only can you adjust the depth of the cutter you can adjust how much tension the ball bearings put on each detent so you don’t knock it out of place accidentally.

Something worth considering, in addition to a uniform or toolkit, consider bringing a small piece of fire rated glass, sized to the stairwell doors. The glass has descriptive stickers all over it, and weighs about 5 pounds. Kind of a heavy access card, to be sure.

I don't think it's dumb, but I'm curious if simply holding the same class independently at each location is easier? You loose the ability for cross-location questions, but if you already have the instructors why bother with the simulcast? I have also never actually attended one of these, so I may be missing a crucial piece of information.

This is unrelated but I just have to share: I picked my first RL lock a few days ago! It was a love lock sullying a local historical bridge. Unfortunately I promptly dropped my turning tool over the edge, so that was the end of that adventure. It seems people use real locks for this nowadays, not just the cheapest of the cheap stuff. People even use disc detainer locks. The one I did was a regular pin tumbler lock, I picked it because it had a shrouded shackle that would make it harder to remove with bolt cutters, which we'll have to do soon.

  • @MarvinCZ

After thinking about it, I stopped there again tonight and removed a couple more. I still have a long way to go before I'm proficient, though.
