How to Make Your Own Ethanol Fuel (At Home)

Today we're showing you how with a few couplings, some copper tubing, some pipe, and a pressure cooker, you can make your own fuel ⛽️ from fermented fruit, “old mead” or just about any other fermented substance that produces alcohol 🍷 🍺

That's the idea, yes. those two mix perfectly without any additional addative or process, so anyone should feel comfortable with it. if you don't have the ability to run on 85+% ethanol, note that your gasoline car can probably run on a significantly more ethanol dense fuel than it's currently running with only a small uptick in heat. cars built in the last 20 years can be nudged up to 15% with almost no change, 20% might still run well. cars in the last 10 years can run fine with *double* the ethanol that is already in commercially available gasoline, but newer cars may not be as willing to accept the extra heat, so monitor carefully when pushing past 20%.

Hes just essentially making moonshine. I've "allegedly" made it several times. His is a little complicated compared to what I've used but the principle is the same. He's using mead instead of mash in his pot. The principle behind distilling alcohol is that alcohol will turn to a vapor before water will under heat. If you keep the temperature at 172° you will get alcohol to flash off the product in the pot and once the vapors go to the top and exit to the heat exchanger he's made in the water also known as a coil or as shiners call it a "worm". The worm is surrounded in cool water which cools the vapors and allow them to turn into liquid alcohol

Fractional distillation through controlling the temperature to separate what's in the liquid and then condensing it down. The temp rise's to show when it's now traversing to the next liquid and would contain just a little of that combined still because of both liquids in the transition. Always best to use a transitional beaker of some sort to keep the purity up between the 2 liquids that you can separate later. Hmm now were getting into what solids maybe in the liquids yet that's easier after the liquids are separated. Chemistry in highschool... Now how to turn a penny into a fake gold penny... I was wondering: in order to distill the fermented mead, you have to put in some kind of energy, wether it is gas, electricity or whatever the stove works with. Plus, fruit waste, sugars, etc. have their own cost. So, by the time you have your final ethanol, you need to subtract from its stored value, the cost it takes to make it. You could come up with some numbers by using an avarage price of fruits, gas (or electricity), the amout of it you need to make how much ethanol you end up with. Any idea?

No the pressure cooker is only a convenient sealed chamber to boil the mead in. once he put the hole in it for the condenser it lost the ability to build pressure in any significant quantity. You could substitute it with other items at hand as long as it 1.can be sealed, 2. Will hold up to the heat source and 3. Will hold up to the corrosive properties of ethanol. A thrift shop pressure cooker just hits all the criteria in a cheap package.

You get a bucket, fill it with some ratio of water and liquid honey. Either get bottles of liquid honey or get some solid and boil jars in a pot of water to make it liquid. You throw in some yeast and put a waterlock on the bucket. Some people use a balloon on a bottle, it's basically to keep the air out. Then you let it sit until it stops offgassing and you've got yourself some mead. Now for drinking you better bottle it and let it sit for as long as you want, the longer the better. For this kind of fuel making you better go straight to making moonshine to the point you've distilled it about 4 times around for something that nearly resembles E10 fuel. I recommend mixing it with regular fuel, as regular fuel has a lot of additives that aid in keeping your engine clean and stuff. Wow that's a long explanation!

You could for the outer jacket, but the heat may compromise the integrity of the pvc nearest the still & you might spring a leak. The insulation quality of the pvc would be better than the copper for retaining the cooling ability of the water though, as copper draws the heat from the outside as well as the inside. But your inner "worm" will have to be metal due to heat transfer for condensing, and copper is your best choice for that.

This method is okay, but one can easily extract water and ethanol from regular fuel via separatory funnel. After the water and ethanol is separated, the water can be separated from the ethanol using simple distillation w/ light heat (70c) with no risks. Water will evaporate at room temperature but that will take a very long time. This is about as anhydrous as you're going to get without a more advanced setup.

Why don't you build a heater which only heat up to 80 degree celcius... By doing that, you can have 100% alcohol...

This makes you self-sustainable. So you're not reliant on a hardware store to purchase petroleum-based fuel.

the propane is just a means of boiling the mead, you could substitute that with anything that gets hot enough to boil alcohol, electric, wood, or waste heat from other equipment even. Alcohol only has a Boiling point of 173.1F as apposed to waters Boiling point of 212F you could use a solar system to charge a battery and run the whole thing off a repurposed coffee maker coil if you had the means.

The cost of the fire (fuel), needed to make bio fuel, is already not worth it. Probably need free wood to make that even feasible
