I just made the team yesterday after watching this video. Tips for others 1. Stick to what you can. Don’t try all of that dribbling if you can’t dribble or shoot a lot if you can’t shoot 2. Hustle. During sprints if you’re jogging your chances of making the team go lower. If your sprint as fast as you can your coach is gonna think you have really good hustle skills.

Sometimes coach already knows who he wants, but sometimes even a stubborn coach changes his mind. A wise man once said "Be so good they cant ignore you"

I made the team in 7th grade and had the best memories, and I remember going into 8th grade nervous because I saw lots of new kids, and I hadn't grown since 7th grade, and then I got cut on the last day with one other person, only reason we got cut was because of our height, I was so mad I lost out on something because of something I couldn't control

Now that you've gone through tryouts, you should have a good idea of what you need to do to get better. If you take the next year to work on your skills and get stronger, you can get a new answer. This improved my confidence so much because even though I’m not great, I have the willpower to practice my hardest every day

I’m really good at encouraging. I’m good at shooting, decent at handles but idk it depends on who I’m going against. My only hope from this video is being encouraging and being vocal. Which is pretty easy for me since I like lifting people up and I like cheering on people.

I failed last years tryouts but I have been prepared to train more ever since and my tryouts are in 2/3 months this has help me alot as well thanks!

More tips -especially for school tryouts- is to get good grades, not get into fights and creating realtionships with good people in your school

just go in there and play your heart out i did that and was one of the 11 players they took as well as being one of the three freshmen

how did you do my brotha

1. Effort - dive for the lose balls, recover on defense. 2. Hustle - try and win every sprint, even if you're not first, be close. 3. Be vocal - be the coach on the court, encourage your teammates and push them and tell them where they're lacking 4. Listen - when the coach blows the whistle, be the first in the huddle and maintain eye contact, and nod so they know you are listening. Good luck!!!!

just made the jv team (i got cut as a freshman). my school is also very competitive. the point of my story is never give up ever. i started training for the try outs as soon as i got cut freshmen year and here i am now on the jv team as a sophomore. you can all do this!

I'm a junior in high school but it's an early college high school so we're partnered with the community college, basketball season is planned to start back up this coming fall semester in September. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to prep? I am a 5'9" shooting guard with a decent 3 point shot that can be streaky sometimes with good energy and defense, 145 lbs., lean but not too much muscle

im trying put tmr and i needed some tips. But from background knowledge, Its not about skill its about how hard you work and push yourself to be great. If you show that you trying and wanna work your most likely to make it.

Nick gotcha that’s tough. It’s definitely an uphill battle. But at the end of the day don’t worry about things that you can’t control. You can’t control who shows up or who gets invited to what or who the new coach is. You can control your attitude, your effort, and your work ethic. So make sure you bring those. If you stay focused on the things you can control you’ll put yourself in the best position possible. Won’t guarantee you make the team, but it’ll put you in the best position possible. Again, it’s all about separating yourself. Most of the kids there are going to be focused on how many other kids are there, how many spots there are, trying to guess what the coach is thinking, etc. Things that they can’t control. And that’ll hurt them ultimately. If you focus on the controllable things, you’ll immediately separate yourself from everyone else.

I wish there were practices in school

I just started practicing basketball about a month ago. I am going to try-outs at the beginning of next month, and there is about 31 kids applying and 10 are getting cut. the coach and others around me have even told me that they don't know if this is the best choice for me, and I really was thinking about changing sports. After watching this video, it has helped me understand what I need to do in order to get a spot on the team, and I'm goanna put my all into this, so hopefully this helps me.

The high school near me has an enrollment of about 360 students for each of the 4 grades (1440 total). How many students would typically try out for the team each year of a school this size (for years that aren't affected by Covid)?

I had 2 days of tryouts. First day was a lot of running, I did ok, but when we played I just felt like I was going through the motions. Most of the kids there were better and faster than me, and had put in the work, which I really didn't. Day 2 was today, I didn't even go I was so disappointed in myself for feeling like I had to try out in the first place. I've felt like I HAVE to play basketball since high school, not WANTing to. I don't feel like a quitter, because I never tried, and I didn't want to. It's been a wake up call for me to get things right and get better grades and become a much stronger athlete, as well as become right with God. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I was one of the best players at my tryouts. I was getting assist after assist and rebound after rebound. However, I am one of the slowest players there. I ran the fastest I ever have though. Sadly though, I didn't make the team.

@justparbo7351 Looking back on it, not really. I still do think I should have made the team, but the biggest mistake I made was not meeting the coach before tryouts. Everyone that made the team knew the head coach and would show up to every open gym. I'm not upset at not making the team anymore because I feel this is one of the most important lessons I learned from sports. Unfortunately I did quit basketball after that year because I fell in love with snowboarding and I do track and football during spring-fall.

Because basketball isn't about skill, if coaches see you aren't as tall as others they won't pick you. It all comes down to whoever is lucky enough to get the ball passed to them or score without having anyone right on top of them. Much better sports out there.

Tryouts in 1 hour. will post updates after. Thanks, coach!!! *update* I got noticed by coaches for my hustle in drills and games. Talked a lot and the coaches loved that. I know if I make it by Wednesday. updates soon!

Vision Driven Basketball i will yeah my shooting is bad but EVRYBODY says I’m good at defense what position should I play

KROMZ ASAP good. Since you know your strengths and weaknesses make sure you play accordingly. Coaches LOVE guys who can play defense. Play really great defense. Work super hard to be the best defender there. Since you know your shot isn’t great, don’t try and shoot if you know you shouldn’t. Play smart and show your best skills. As for position, it doesn’t really matter. Just do what you’re good at and avoid what you aren’t good at during tryouts.
