How to Make Mexican Wedding Cookies | Polvorones
Full Recipe: preppykitchen.com/kourabiedes...
SUBSCRIBE ► / @preppykitchen
These super-easy, melt in your mouth cookies made with lots of almond meal and rolled in powdered sugar are a global favorite! Almost every culture has a variation and all are delicious!
Aliases include: Mexican wedding cookies, or polvorones, kourabiedes in Greece, Russian tea cakes, snowball cookies in parts of America, boomeranng cookies, and the list goes on! So delicious and they whip up in a snap. The cookies themselves are not very sweet so that heavy dusting of powdered sugar and just the right amount of sweetness.
I used almond meal in these cookies but you can use ground walnuts, or pecans and definitely feel free to have some larger chunks in there too.

One of the reasons these cookies are so widely known throughout different cultures are because of trade. When people would travel to new places they would often gift/trade with goods or recipes ☺️❤️❤️❤️

In Puerto Rico, they called mantecaditos just add yellow color and sprinkles and also polvorones no color added but you leave them as is or do a thump print and add guava paste. Thanks for reminding me of the memories.

My mom was from Tennessee. When she made these she called them Dust Balls. She made them with finely chopped either pecan or walnuts. She would either roll them in powered when they were warm or she would let them cool completely, dip them in icing and roll them in coconut. My dad loved the coconut ones best.

I guess you're right about every culture. these are very like the Viennese Crescents I grew up with in my house. We used walnuts instead of almonds but otherwise the same. Sometimes I dip them in melted chocolate instead of powdered sugar.

I use finely chopped pecans for my wedding cookies, or they are also called tea cakes. I form the cookies into balls and roll them in the powdered sugar twice. Soooo good. The almond meal sounds delicious too. Thanks, I am going to try those.

John, Mom made these for us every Christmas season. We called them "Butter Balls". There are two differences between Mom's recipe and yours; she didn't add the almond flour (of course), And she only added 1/4 cup powdered sugar. " Really?". you may query. "Oh aye" I respond in my best Scottish accent. When it was my turn to make these, I thought I would raise the amount to 1/3 and it just didn't taste right. This is what I think, when you use only 1/4 cup, the dough is very nearly savory, just a tish into the "sweet" spectrum. As a little girl, I didn't think it tasted at all palatable! But think about it. If you have a nearly savory ball of melt in your mouth goodness and you cover it with one of god's sweetest ingredients: Powdered sugar, you pop it into your mouth and are instantly hit with a powerful blast of sweetness, Then bite into the very nearly savory, melt-in-your-mouth taste of heaven, there are layered flavors here. The sugar immediately begins to blend with the baked balls. As you chew, the slowly blend into just the right amount of sweet to not out shine the butter and pecans and vanilla. Anyway, I know you'll make them as you always have...as your mom made them. and you'd be right to. It's memories of every Christmas you've ever hda. You want to share them with your own sons and make new memories of your own. TRADITIONNNNN!!!. Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year!

I’m greek and yes these are amazing. We don’t use almond flour but we do add toasted crushed almonds. They are amazing. They last three weeks but usually they don’t last long especially going to see family during the holidays we all exchange some with each other. One tip I would suggest for you to try is melt the butter over low heat the day before and add it to a bowl covered with cellophane to cool in the fridge over night. Then on the day you make them take out the bowl to room temperature and remove the milk residue at the bottom. Pierce a hole in the middle and dump it out. It makes them even more soft. My mom uses a special Greek butter and margarine. Funniest thing is they break easily but she insist to fly them over when she visits at Christmas. It’s hilarious cause she gets so disappointed loo
