The best bet is to remove the existing paint entirely. You will prevent any possible peeling in the future.

Installing metallic epoxy flooring requires a specific set of equipment and tools to ensure a successful and aesthetically pleasing result. Here's a list of the essential items you'll need: 1. **Safety Gear**: - Safety goggles or glasses - Nitrile gloves - Dust mask or respirator 2. **Surface Preparation**: - Floor grinder or sander - Concrete or surface repair materials (if necessary) - Shop vacuum or dust extraction system - Degreaser and concrete cleaner 3. **Primer and Base Coat**: - Epoxy primer specific to your metallic epoxy system - Paint roller with extension handle - Paint tray and liners 4. **Metallic Epoxy Kit**: - Metallic epoxy resin kit (typically includes two or more components that need to be mixed) - Metallic pigment powders - Mixing containers and stirring sticks - Squeegee or notched trowel - Roller cover (often with a short nap) 5. **Decorative Elements** (optional): - Decorative flakes or chips (for added texture and depth) - Stencils or masking tape for creating patterns or designs 6. **Top Coat and Sealant**: - Clear epoxy or polyurethane topcoat (UV-resistant for better durability) - Paint roller with extension handle - Paint tray and liners 7. **Application Tools**: - Paintbrush or artist's brush (for cutting in along edges and corners) - Paint roller frame with an extension handle - Paintbrushes for touch-ups 8. **Mixing and Application Equipment**: - Mixing paddle and drill (for thoroughly mixing the epoxy components) - Plastic buckets for mixing (as per the manufacturer's instructions) - Measuring tools (for precise mixing ratios) 9. **Squeegee or Trowel**: - A squeegee or notched trowel is essential for spreading the epoxy smoothly and evenly across the floor. 10. **Cleanup Supplies**: - Solvent or cleaner for cleaning tools and spills - Rags or disposable towels Please note that the specific tools and equipment you require may vary based on the manufacturer's instructions and the size and complexity of your metallic epoxy project. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines and safety recommendations when working with epoxy products, and consider consulting with a professional if you're not experienced in epoxy flooring installation.
Use a vapor barrier 100% solid epoxy instead of a water based primer and you won’t get air bubbles.. also don’t understand why no one on the internet mixes the pigment into the metallic the night before then you won’t see powder streaks in the finish coat.

you don't have to deflate the bubbles with a spiked roller. It will be smooth superficial with it?
@duomit
8 ай бұрын
Not for metallic. It will leave a pattern on the epoxy
I see bubbles? you sand down the final metallic coat? you walk on it, is it strong enough to support people walking?
@duomit
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, sometimes you can see bobbles on the epoxy especially when you got a soft concrete. Another coat of metallic is necessary or sand it down and seal with poly if customer is ok with the finish.
DO you have to use the roller? Can you just use the squeegee?
@duomit
Жыл бұрын
Yes, roller is a must have
I did not see that you guys try to pop any bubbles in between coats. I know you are sanding the surface in between, but probably would have benefited from a propane torch pass or light isopropyl alcohol spray to get rid of the big ones along the entire surface. In addition, I use 2 part epoxy primer meant for boats (marine) application instead of the same material. It seems to react better with Metallics' final look (3d). Everything else look like it was made to last.

@@duomit after you prime, base coat it in the same colour, then do your metallic coat. You wont get bubbles. I understand a customer doesn't always want to pay for that though.
A "non-slip resistant" that's good, if it was slip resistant, people wouldn't fall.but since it's "non"... let the ice skating begin!!
