I am a 40 year competitive player and part-time cuemaker and wish I had the courage and confidence to do what you’re doing. Currently I have a blog but don’t think I could do video, but you may inspire me to. 😀 You are humble and seem like you love the game for the same reasons as me. I do teach quite a bit but find most people play for ego or aren’t willing to put real thought and dedication into it. I promote local pool by giving away pool cues to those that can’t afford it and show a love for the game. I’d be willing to donate one if you ever want to do a giveaway or something like that. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for what you’re doing, and happy this silly little game we love is in good hands for the future. Keep it up!

Robert Rice Robert Rice Well we can pretend he had a giveaway and I won! :) I am currently cue-less as my last one (and half my belongings) was stolen in a break in at my house after landlord turned off our water and foreclosed on our home. We had to only use it as storage for a couple months and the new owner decided to break in and let kids take everything. They didn’t even evict us just decided to change our locks one day and let kids remove of everything. They ended up having to give us some money but it wasn’t even enough to get us into a home. Lost so much stuff it makes me sick. I haven’t even played a game since in over 2 years now. They were hand me downs and were wayyy out of my price range to say the least. Haha. :( Anywayyyy great videos!! And regardless I’d love to be able to see your cues! Did you have a website or anything. I’m an artist my self (on the side) and live looking at things made by real people. :) Keep up the fantastic videos bud! Keep up the making cues! Robert Ps Have a great day guys! And don’t forget to get out and practice. It seems impossible but it’s incredible what the human brain can learn to do. Our brains would be a super computer the side of a football field 3 stories high! Pps Speaking of computers. You can actually practice on good 3D video games. It’s amazing how realistic they are. Ok rant over :) Cheers everyone.

Awesome system! It’s pool night at my buddy’s house tonight and every Thursday night. We’re blessed to be able to play on his beautiful 8 1\2 Ft vintage table built somewhere around the 1920’s. I will apply this technique tonight! Thanks for the tips and keep them coming. “Teaching makes you a better player”. Well said!

So... I was a competitive player 14 years ago until a tbone accident took me off the tables. Life happened and am just now getting back into the competitive play and trying to get back the game I once had. I admire your breakdown and am humbled to take the advice from someone much younger then myself for one of the first times in my life. I hope you give thanks to your teachers for your skill. This is one of the most important tutorials I’ve gotten (as this is a very common shot) and one of the simpler and better breakdowns I’ve seen. If you get out to Vegas please message me, I’d love to trade you the favor of something you mentioned that I specialize in but not over social media. In short... thank you for what you do, you’re doing great, keep it up!!

Top notch. Worked like a charm. I like the running commentary. When I understand the 'why' I can adapt the same principals to other situations. Re no shoes...maked it real. I bet 98% of us play in our basement, etc. I often play in PJs and slippers. Too many lessons are focused in on pros, tournaments, etc. Your following likely wants to play just a bit better than their mates at the bar or the Legion. My goal is to hear a simple comment from my mates: 'Nice shot'.

great video. the reason you're having to make those adjustments is that you're using the contact point at the object ball and the center of the cue ball. do the first shot again but move your fingers up table to where the center of the cue ball would be when making contact and it works more often. fwiw, the adjustment made is a quarter of the diameter of the ball, or roughly 5/8". this is a really common mistake when people line up a cut shot and point the tip of the cue where they want to hit the ball. the actual aiming point is up to a half ball (radius) back from there. it takes a while for the brain to compensate for this difference.

If you draw the trajectory of the center of the cue ball exactly, you'll observe that it actually gets reflected not by the cushion, but by the line that is parallel to the cushion at a distance of half a ball's width. Therefore, if you mirrored your contact point at THAT line (and not at the cushion), your geometry actually works without any two-finger adjustment, independently of where the target ball is positioned. The reason why you only need that two-finger adjustment if the target ball is close to the cushion is that in this case, the half-ball-width is more relevant in comparison to the distance of the target ball to the cushion. Also, did you notice that in your five tries your target ball tends to actually hit the short cushion first even though you weren't aiming for it? This, too, is because you used the cushion and not the parallel line as the reflection line in your calculations.

theallseeingmaster It's ok to use it practicing and fun playing but not in a tournament or league. It's illegal to mark, or place any objects (aiming aids) on the rail(s) or the table to shoot at. Laying your cue down anywhere on the table without it remaining in contact with your hand(s) is also illegal. You can still use the two finger rule to find the contact points on the rails. You just can't mark them with anything.

This technique is known as a mirror image you can also use the cue to measure the distance between the ball and rail then move the tip to the rail and find it this way sometimes it can be hard to keep your fingers gaped as you move it back for the rail I had this problem so I use my cue to measure and find it.

I even pulled my license out to have a clear straight edge to see if I was not seeing it clearly and if you pause shots 3 and especially 4, it lime you are hitting the rail with cue ball way before the line from cue to chalk would indicate. Can u or even anyone else check and see? I wonder if there something I m missing. Thx

Technically when measuring the aiming point you should not go to the rail but to where the middle of a ball would be against the rail . then double that distance. Center to center but I think measuring from the aiming point instead of the center of the ghost ball on object ball may be similar outcomes. It looks like it works pretty well. I will add use top but not running english for these shots they pot much more often . The running english will often overcut the ball hit especially it it has much distance to travel after contact. It already picks up some off the rail.

The reason you have to adjust the chalk isn't because of over- vs undercutting the ball, it's because of the way the cue ball hits the rail. The angle would be correct, except that you're aiming the center of that cue ball at the chalk rather than the spot on the cue ball that would HIT the rail. In other words, the cue ball is hitting way further up the rail than where you're aiming, and this distance increases the closer your cue ball is to the rail. You have to adjust for that distance, and it has nothing to do with where your object ball is. Take your cue ball and move it by hand down the path that you're aiming at any particular spot on the rail, and you'll see that the cue ball bounces way further up than you're aiming.

People mention the ghost ball when you're aiming at your object ball, but fail to realize that the same concept applies with rails.

If you can back cut balls... Without using chalk or fingers... Which i never used... You. Need to visualize the distance and mirror flip it and see your aim point.... .. If your playing in leagues or tournaments then expect there to be a shot clock, generally 30-60 seconds which you must shoot next shot or foul.... Walking around table... measuring distant..temporarily marking aim point. walking around to get down to see the spot... getting back down after removing chalk marker... and then adding where you want position the cue ball next wont be possible with 30 seconds and i would be invoking it when i see an opponent using any phyical aid techniques such as parallel aiming shifts using cue stick for kick shots ect ect... I use this specifically for these shots and it is as accurate as the video title... but once you see how the measurements is done(mirror image).. Learn to do it visually from behind the cue ball.... The benefits also are that distance further then 2 fingers is not anymore different than within that 2 fingers

  • @rawhideleather

If it's that easy to eyeball it then why do you see some top pros using their stick to find the aim spot on the rail? I guess you're much better than them? Also even 30 seconds is plenty of time to do a parallel shift for a kick or bank shot.

The system looks great but It is better to strengthen your intuition and feel.

Your very incorrect you should use this system till you understand it and can measure with your eyes and don't need to measure anymore to see the point you need to hit on the rail. I used this system for 18 years only variation is I use my cue to measure not my fingers. I now don't need to measure I can see the angle and can do this 10/10 times. B4 this system I could maybe do it 1or 2 /10 times. Using intuition b4 understanding how and why it works then your pretty much just guessing where to hit it. I've shown this system to so many ppl that just guess and miss and now they make it dam near every time. This system was shown to me by Shane van Boeing when I lived in South Dakota and trust me what the guy says in the video is correct. this was one of the first things shane showed me to improve my game and will never forget it. When you can't see it or it doesn't look right just measure the geometry is there if you know how to use it your make % will be so much higher.

Brian 4687 yes I do agree with you it is important to work around the aiming system until you get a decent intuition of the correct path. At the same time , pool is the game of uncertainty one should be ready to experiment new shots.
