I like how negative the comments are about his grammar, the recipe or the stove top? Try speaking japanese fluently or instruct a cooking show in a language that's not your own. Seriously, you guys should just give OP a thumbs up. If you know how to read, the title clearly says it's JAPANESE CURRY. Meaning they make the curry how MOST japanese households do it. Seriously folks, use your brain if you have one. If not, shut up and just watch the video.

Just finished eating my last bite of the Katsu Curry. I have to say, IT WAS SOOOO delicious!!!! I was a little nervous about the heat of the curry as I "accidentally" bought the box that said HOT instead of the milder variety. Uh Oh! I have to say however, that the heat level was fairly tame. Whew! What a relief! So thank you for this absolutely yummy recipe. I've tried many of your recipes and they are ALL, ALL wonderful!!!!

In our affiliate store (link in the video description above) we've highlighted some curries that you can check out and see which one is right for what you're looking for or trying to avoid eating. Word of advice, you should of started with a bigger pot such as a dutch oven type, and after your browned your meat you should of taken it out of the pot and then then proceeded with the vegetables until nice and sauteed and then adding in the meat again, and finally I think that you used too much of that curry paste.

First brown the beef, when it's golden brown stir in the potatoes. When the potatoes get a little traslucid around the edges add the rest of the vegetables. Browning the beef will make it more tasteful and tender. Sauteing the potatoes will make them cook faster. When adding water, make sure it's boiling, this will also make your dish taste better.

Respecting opinions is what we're all about here, and in that spirit we welcome differing points of view. I make the curry the way I was taught growing up in my mom's kitchen and have always enjoyed it. The curry blocks I use all recommend reducing to a simmer but not turning off the heat completely so I can't tell if that's what you mean or not. You're welcome to post tips for others to use and we're glad you're visiting, but I don't see any value in debating this particular point any more.

Thanks for the video and your instructions, but don't get discouraged by insults! Some people follow recipes, some are cooks and some are aspiring Chef's. A Chef can add their own 'spin' on a recipe and turn it into their own... in the same manner recipes have been created for hundreds of years. I watched your video for your 'take' on Katsu Curry... how you refer to your wife in your home is of no consequence to me and I wasn't interested in what you fed your dog, like some others. Stay encouraged, keep cooking, and sharing.

If you keep stirring because you're using high heat, and you have problems with stuff jumping out, it means you need a wok! You can always transfer the food to a smaller pan to mix the curry into, but a wok seems like it would solve the "jumping onion" problems!

I do LOVE curry & ate as well as made curry zillion times when I lived in Japan. The only thing I'd like to suggest is that veggies should be cut in the same size, so they cook evenly. Your carrots were bit too small compare to your potatoes. Onions can be bigger pieces than potatoes & carrots as onions are softer veggies. Anyway I really think curry is a wonderful dish as you can make it with all sorts of meat or chicken as well as with shrimp etc. It also still tastes great without any meat! Now I feel like having curry tonight! ^_^

Thanks for your question! Do you mean the curry roux bricks? Us Japanese don't really use curry powder.... but I have a recipe on how to do that. I'll put that in our request list for new videos but can't make any promises about when it would be up, our daughter started school this year and we've all been getting sick way more than ever before so it's hard to plan anything :( Thanks for reaching out to us~! :D

If you chop the curry blocks ahead of time, they will melt easily when put in the water.

Good question! If you go to a proper Japanese market ask for 'usugiri' (thinly sliced) but if you go to an American butcher tell them you'd like it sliced almost deli meat thin. That should get you what you're after, if you have any more questions feel free to ask :D

Use the Japanese rolling cut for more authenticity. Especially, for guests who eat Katsu or Japanese style curry as a comfort food. Thank you for the video.

You're right Zairip! This is Japanese curry rice with a slice of tonkatsu (pan fried pork) in it. It's made with panko :) Does that help? Thanks for your question :D
