I halfed the recipe, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar 3 egg whites 1/2 a pinch of salt and added a teaspoon of clear vanilla extract. I didn't have that mixer, so i used a hand mixer, it didn't come out as fluffy but looked and tasted great, would do and recommend again. :)

Best recipe I have found on the internet, and I've tried over 10 recipes for frosting without confectioner's sugar. I added green food coloring just to make it cuter. I have a hand mixer at home, rather than the standing mixer. It only took a few minutes for me to get the stiff peaks. Great recipe.

I have made this frosting twice now, using your recipe, and it turned out great both times. One was made with raw egg whites and the other with reconstituted powdered whites. With the raw eggs, I did bring the temperature up to pasteurizing, using a thermometer, and it turned out just fine. With the powdered whites, I didn't need to be so concerned, but did make sure the sugar had all melted before removing from the pan. Again, perfect. Thanks so much for a terrific recipe. Way better than standing over a hot double boiler with a hand mixer for 7 minutes. Your way also turns out a much better frosting. BTW, I added 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar to the mixture.

Here's a recipe which might help. 1/2 c. milk 3 tbsp. flour 1/2 c. granulated sugar 1/4 c. butter 1/4 c. vegetable shortening 1 tsp. vanilla extract (optional) Cook milk and flour over low heat until very thick. Let cool. Cream together sugar, butter and shortening. Add milk and flour mixture and beat until whipped cream consistency. Add vanilla. Let us know how you get on!

Yes it should work fine. It's not a solid frosting so you can't shape it but you can add food colouring to change the colour and pipe it or layer it over your cakes. Let us know how you get on!

Excellent. Used 1/2 recipe for topping to put on fresh black raspberries in a pie shell. Also used a little vanilla. Really good. Keep in frigerator.

It is called "MERINGUE" frosting aka "7-minute frosting"! It tastes GROSS, worse than the regular, gritty American Buttercream loaded with 4x powdered sugar in ratio to the butter (or the bad stuff, shortening).

As for me, once i done baking and garnishing. I dont eat them. They look beautiful piece of art and thats all my hardwork put into reality. So i dont really eat it before others eat it first. I may eat it if there are some extra left. Usually i tasted the extra bit so it doesnt really matter if i eat the end product or the residual part (during garnishing there is always extra bits of stuff so that is when i tasted every part of the product before assembled them).
