How To Make Creamy and Delicious Oatmeal on the Stove | Easy Rolled Oats Recipe
This video walks you through how to make creamy and delicious oatmeal on the stove. First, I'll explain the basic ingredients, including why I prefer using old fashioned rolled oats over instant. And I explain why I like to use non-dairy milk for making oatmeal on the stove. I use almond milk. Then we move on to the cooking. You'll learn how many parts of oats to milk to water to use. I set a stopwatch and show you exactly how long it takes to cook oatmeal on the stove. After that, I share a simple topping idea (blueberries, sliced almonds, honey, and cinnamon).
BASIC STOVETOP OATMEAL RECIPE FOR ONE
Recipe:
The basic recipe serves one person, but you can easily multiply it. I use honey, but vegan options are in the video and recipe (sub maple syrup or agave).

Hey, love the video! Just wanted to say that to reduce cooking time, try bringing your milk and water combination to a boil in the pot first, then add in the oats and other ingredients. Bring the heat down to low, and keep stirring. I find that it really helps shorten the time it takes to thicken!

I needed this video. I remember making oatmeal as a teen & it always came out good. Now that I'm an adult I've been having a lot of trouble. Thanks for this video - i would add " Cooking honey to 40 degree Celsius causes a negative chemical change that makes it taste bitter. Heat destroys the beneficial qualities of honey and by buying processed honey, which is already heated at a certain temperature, you are only making it worse. According to Ayurveda, when cooked, honey becomes equivalent to glue. The molecules tend to adhere to mucous membranes in the digestive tract, further producing toxins, called Ama (undigested food), which become the root cause of ill health. It contributes to congestion, weight gain, respiratory diseases, skin conditions, digestive problems and blood glucose imbalances.

Thanks for the tips and video. I do wonder, why are your chia seeds white? Mine are black.
@TheChicLife
5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks so much for watching. :) From the times I've bought them at the grocery store, I've seen them both white and black. Though some stores only carry one or the other. I googled it a bit and apparently those are the only two colors they are naturally. As a side note, I found an article on Bon Appetit that says, "Look for seeds that are either a speckled black or white, but not uniformly brown. The Chia Co. founder John Foss explains brown chia seeds are immature seeds that haven't had a chance to mature properly, and this can result in fewer nutritional benefits and give the seeds a bitter taste." Hope this helps!

I believe both the white and black ones are mature, but it sounds like the brown color can indicate the seeds are immature. Not sure why. Silly plants! :) I did learn whilst researching this today that the flowers on the plant can indicate what color the chia seeds are/will be.
How much chia seeds did u add I’m having trouble finding the recipe it looks freaking delicious I really want to try it
@TheChicLife

You can really use almost any amount you'd like. I'd start at a teaspoon and see how you like it, and then you can add more from there. I stopped worrying about putting in too many when chia pudding became a thing - that's basically a whole serving of almost all chia seeds. 😆Happy cooking! PS: I honestly don't usually measure this, I just sprinkle some in. 😉

Yah ive heard chia seeds have good omega 3s, fibre and i believe i saw on some packaging that its also an antioxidant. Any amount added would be an extra something to add if your looking for some benefits. It doesnt effect the texture too much as oatmeal has the same consistency ive noticed.

Do you add everything while off the stove or while on the stove. And do you use a low or medium flame
@TheChicLife

You could add it off or on the stove. I normally combine the main ingredients before turning on the heat. For me, I usually put the pot on the counter and add the base ingredients because it's just a little easier with how my kitchen is set up. I use a low or medium low flame, typically. It can vary stove to stove. You may have to test yours out to see what works best on yours. Hope this helps! :)
