My British husband cooked porridge every morning. He would soak the oats in water overnight, then add a little evaporated milk and fresh blueberries to the pot in the morning. He would stir the porridge with a beautiful spurtle topped with a carved thistle. Whenever I found Lyles syrup in a store, I would surprise him with a can or two. We were married 39 years before he died, and aside from vacations away from home, this is how he started each day.

Zoid Burg The oats people use are usually almost 'dead' because they have been pasteurized. Soaking, fermenting and sprouting is good against phytic acid as far as I know. I soak other grains for 5-12 hours, oat grains are lighter (according to the German Dr. Bruker who was an expert in this field and studied Bircher Benner's muesli) and need less time to soak and be well digestible.

Nimity Tei If you have whole oat groats, you must first flake them by using an oat roller. I let mine fall from the machine (I have one called Flocino) into a dish with some water to prevent oxidation of the flakes. They should soak 30 min. to 1 hour. All of them should be just moist. Don't use too much water. Then add sweet fruits and raw nuts to enjoy it. ;) It is a light meal (you don't feel it in the stomach) but I feel hunger only after 4-5 hours. Feel free to ask more if you need help.

It was a 9 euro porrigde! Crasy stupid expensive porrige! But what they added on it was lovely and I've done it several times at home after that: Just top the porrige with: Slices of 4-5 fresh strawberries,. slices of half a banana, some maple syrup and some sunflower seeds, I'd say about 2 tablespoons. You can even roast them a but for a nutties flavour. It was awesome. But still bloody expensive.

I usually make morning porridge from rice or multigrain flakes (with cinnamon and vanillin) and add nutbutter with banana chips, or apples, or pear. My favorite porridge for dinner or lunch is buckwheat with lecho or vegetable stew and boiled eggs. P.S. Sorry for my grammar mistakes - English isn't my mother tongue

I have porridge on weekday mornings. Like Jamie, I prepare it with water and a smidge of salt. I sometimes add various items such as blueberries, prunes etc. My favourite is to stir in cinnamon and then chopped figs half away through the cooking so that they soften and plump up. I finish with splash of milk into it. It's so lovely.

We love the same porridge Brand. I am enjoying a savory porridge made with Lacto free milk. Salt ,black pepper, chilly, cayan pepper two eggs ,a nub of butter and two tablespoons of grated hard cheese a dash of olive oil. It is so creamy and delicious. I derived this when a savory omelette recipe I had followed got stuck to my frying pan. Then woke another day craving the same taste. Decided to just stir and hey presto! It has taken me 60 years to discover savoury porridge. Better late than never. Love you Jamie.😊🙏🏿🥰 I too am a fan of chocolate porridge. I stir it in whilst it cooks adding cinnamon, vanilla essence and nutmeg. Possibly even raisins or coconut. Porridge is limitless. Enjoy.xx

My favourite is with soy milk, which is not quite as rich as normal milk but also not quite like using water. Depending on my mood I sometimes cook it quicker to have a more coarse porridge or give it time for a smoother one. I also love using different flakes instead of just oat. I have spelt flakes for example that give the porridge a bit of a heartier taste. And mixing up fine and coarse oats for different textures. For flavour I always put it quite heavy amounts of cinnamon, a nice bit of maple syrup, agave nectar or brown sugar(we don't really have golden sryup here). Topped with some kind of fruit, best a quick berry sauce like shown in the video or an apple compote. If I have good fruit at home fresh is perfect of course.

I let it sit until it has nearly absorbed all the water, add a couple tablespoons of powdered coconut milk and two tablespoons of brown sugar mix and eat (straight out of the pot because I don't share). If it's Summer and I can get fresh peaches then I dice one up and throw it in.
