    I grew up on a farm and we made a lot of butter. We made our butter into blocks, wrap the blocks and then freeze them until we needed it. Now, I'm using my Ninja Blender to make butter. I love that blender.

    I had wanted to try making butter for ages but I figured a half hour with a hand whisk would be exhausting. I tried it 1 times in my stand blender (very very VERY Old one from the 90s) and I somehow managed to get it done perfectly. the two times since I've tried I've completely failed at it, it gets to the whipping thickness after about 3 mins or so and after I come back later it's all liquid. I've checked online and it might have something to do with the remnants of suger being in the blender, I'm not sure. Going to try this one more time and then I'm giving up on the blender option and just buying a mixer because the butter I made that one time was seriously delicious (and I didn't even add salt the first time lol)

    I agree with you that it is probably not worth it to make butter if you don't have a cow. My local grocery had heavy whipping cream, quart size, on sale for 3$. So good in my coffee that I bought one. I didn't want it to go bad so I froze most of it. When I defrosted it it appeared that it started to separate, so I thought I could bring it back by whipping it a small amount. Using my 35 year old blender it started to get really thick in about a minute. About a minute more I had butter. I poured off the buttermilk, that was delicious also. I think it came to butter so fast was because it had already started to separate from the freezing. What do you think?

    You know I have a metal strainer that belonged to my great grandma Nana and it looks very similar to yours so I am assuming your strainer has been passed down to you which I think is AWESOME!! I Love retro kitchen items, especially like that butter mold, really cool. Thank you for the butter directions.     Gosh, us NYC folks will never get to experience stuff like this. It’s such amazing little things like this that are great to create memories with the little ones. So envious. I live in the Bronx Borough of NYC, across the street from a state owned horse stable. The poop smell that covers the area is the closest thing to a farm I will ever get. :-( Please never take it for granted.

    Watch for a sale on heavy cream (here, in Canada, we have whipping cream = 35% milk fat). If you don't have a blender or a food processor, you can put the cream in a jar, and shake it like crazy... about 20 min or more (nice when u have help - can take turns shaking). It will get foamy; then grainy; then will finally seperate. I once made the mistake of not rinsing my butter, and it tasted like sour milk within 2 days, so be sure to rinse your butter. I put mine on a cutting board, leaned on an angle in the sink, and I work the butter, folding it repeatedly under cold running water. After, I work some salt into it to bring out the flavour. There is nothing like homemade butter 😍 much different than the processed stuff you buy from the store.

    Hi Ty for the video! About how long did you blend for? I’m using Raw milk from Sprouts the brand is “family Owned Raw Farm 1998” and it’s not turning. I’ve been blending on my vitamin now for 5 minutes 🙁

    Hmmmm it can depend on the temperature of the cream and how thick it is. Hopefully it turned for You. But should take more than 15 minutes.

    It's worth making your own unsalted butter, because most unsalted butters on the market contain something listed as "natural flavor." If you di some research you'll find this so called natural flavor is diacetyl, an additive that has been known to cause adverse effects ("popcorn lung" for example).

    In a blender yes, you could end up blending the butter back into the buttermilk.

    When you start with cold cream, it actually works out really well as butter churns best when its not super cold, the vitamin warms it up a bit

    I tried this today with my Ninja high powered blender. It took a long time, started to separate but then stopped. The milk was very warm when I checked on it. Can I chill this milk and try it again in a mixer? I've made butter in my mixer before but wanted to try the blender.

    Sorry for the delay in replying. You would need to cool the milk again and I would suggest an immersion blender.

    I feel like I may know the answer to this, but would your like your insight... When we buy good butter I can leave it sitting at room temp for toast, etc.... (It's just cream and salt) When I made butter from the raw milk, I did the same. But it soured so quickly. Is it because they can get it more clean than we can?

    Getting warm shouldn't be the problem. I've never used a nutribullet, but does it have a smaller motor? (so it doesn't whizz around a fast)

    We only use raw cream, from our cows, which is full of good enzymes and when handled well it's a much superior product compared to pasteurized (which our family can't stomach well) Sorry for the delay in replying!

    How much butter volume do you get from say a 1/2 a gallon of milk or a whole 1 gallon? Any idea on the conversion rates? One of the real issues about the question of if its worth it is that nobody quotes what the volume conversion of milk to butter looks like. That would help immensely in figuring this out. And recently the stuff in the stores costs a ton for butter and margarine. This reopens homemade being sometimes worth it also because the price scalping is baddddd. /// Like my area the cost of say a tub of Country Cruck is almost $7 dollars now. That same tub SHOULD be $2.50. It was that price for a long time. That price was fair. They are ripping us off now. The best thing to do is find out what you can make at home. They intend to screw us all on prices.

    The conversion rate of cream to butter is very dependant on so many variables. How thick is your cream? What breed of cow is it and where are they in lactation and how much cream do you get per gallon if were talking milk. I'm sorry I can't be more specific. I agree that food costs are through the roof and making food from scratch is the best for you and your budget!

    Much different than store-bought... flavour is a bit deeper & fresher tasting. It has as much difference as comparing store-bought bread to home-baked bread 😊

    I disagree .... If you have the means to make your own butter then do it. You don't need to live on a farm or have a cow . I make dairy butter and vegan butter . Far better than what yiu get at the store and super easy to do .

    Using serge 100%cows milk blending 3 hours in my blender and cant get butter ...dont know what may have happen

    Henry, milk only has 2% to 4% fat. If you watch the video again, she skims the fat off the top of the milk in the jars, then uses that to make the butter. You need to use a high fat product (ie. cream) in order to get butter. If you start with the right product, it should only take about 10 minutes in a blender.
