1. Minimize the number of options for a decision 2. Incorporate the decision into a routine 3. Set a deadline for a decision 4. Put thresholds on how much time you spend deciding, depending on the cost 5. Get others' perspective 6. Make decisions based on how they align with your values
I can never understand how people can stand shopping for hours. Last month I was trying to buy a pen with 0.5 mm tip on an online shop and there were so many choices, I was so confused and overwhelmed. After researching, I felt extremely exhausted, I spent the next few hours listening to soft and calming music. That's when I realized decision fatigue is real.

I used to do this when I first started shopping online, I'd spend hours researching even small items that weren't worth my time and mental energy. Then I realized how good Amazon's return policy, that nowadays I order 2 choices, and return what I don't like. Saved me a ton

@@battle4dead Unfortunately we don't have Return Policy in my country. You get what you pay for. I used to be jealous about US Return Policy, but after I knew about the waste cost it'll make, I think it's better to have no Return Policy at all.

Lita Elisabeth it’s funny isn’t it. Shopping on line was meant to make life easier, but I think many people are led to purchasing more than they would if they go to a physical shop. I have only done online shop for my work uniform as that is the only option. I would much rather do a purposeful shopping expedition armed with a list. Less choice, know the brands I want to support or the shop I would prefer to support, know how much I am prepared to spend, then I find I am not necessarily distracted by the need to window shop and thus expedite the purchase. I spend much less than many people I know who shop on line.

I wanted to choose pens for watercolor and art....I looked at so many pens. I went with the brand I already had but in a set of different mm tips. I was so satisfied and I had the brand in my art tools from the start..... crazy!
I really suffered with analysis paralysis during quarantine funnily enough, as I was trying to streamline my daily routine and belongings yet trying to choose which essentials to buy. It just clicked that my mental heath depends on minimalism. Thanks for these tips
Less decisions = less brain power = more brain power devoted to more meaningful tasks. Like the epic b roll you always have, Thanks for some inspiration CK, you da man!!
The content on this channel never ceases to amaze me. This is probably really dumb but I literally watch the ads to feel like I'm giving back a little of the time and effort that goes into these 🤣 thank you, CK! You make our lives so much richer through the knowledge you share, and the beautiful ways you interpret that knowledge
True. I spend hours trying to choose what brand or kind of product to buy. Quality, financial cost, environmental impact, health effects, sustainability, too many factors to consider.
People are mindful of the wrong things , trying mindful exercises is really grounding
Love your sense of humor
I learned a trick from my mom, which I passed on to my SO. If you have to choose between two or three options, make a list of pros and cons of each choice. Even if one list is longer than the other, it may be affected by the importance of the item in the list. The final choice is usually obvious. I showed my stepdaughter how to do this when she was choosing between two art tablets. (I also look at reviews, starting with the bad reviews.)
Because you used this as an example.....i feel like the different types of black shirts you have will make it harder to make a decision each day. Like hmm should i wear v-neck, crew, loose neck, wide, thin....i think that is why matt davella just bought the same tee 15 times. He wakes up and zero decision
The reason why everything in my life is as organized and planned as humanly possible. I HATE making decisions. And when I have to, it's extremely stressful. I prefer to keep the decisionmaking to a bare minimum, which is why minimalism works so well for me. Less to choose from, stick to the exact routine, that's it. No more worries. (in theory, although we still worry about tons of things despite having a structured lifestyle)
I'm indecisive from childhood and struggling with it a lot of times. But surprisingly I learnt to make some decision really quickly. Either I go for the same things or decide upon: 1) the cheap one, 2) good for environment, 3) the healthy one, 4) the easy one, depending on what type of thing I'm choosing to buy/eat/do/etc. Still having bigger issues with the big decisions but also I can imagine ahead on which one I will be missing out the most or regret the most so that also is a kind of help to make them.
He cannot say Decision but he makes better videos than others
Such a smart and a wise content, Cheng. My eyes and ears were completely fixed while watching this. 😂 This was so very needed at the moment. Been having a hard time with making choices. Glad you came up with this. Keep growing and shining, Cheng. 💪

Glad it was helpful Ajay! 😊 Thanks for the support! Will keep working on it! 💪
procrastination, anxiety, clutter, wandering mind are so much interrelated and may have same root, some sort of dissatisfaction with our life
Thank you for your content and clear message on minimalism. Your message deserves to be spread.
I’ve also started to complete a yearly vision board to help stay on track. Thanks for all you do, you make a difference for everyone.
loved the part with decluttering your dog lmao, this video was so helpful and well edited, thank you so much!! 😊
I often used to get stressed because of the fear of "missing out", but I've realised that there's no point in worrying about the material stuff because having those won't equal happiness. I still get decision fatigue especially when I'm looking to making a big purchase, like a new smartphone, but I always set a budget fit for me and find one in it that has best of the features I need.
My husband often asks my opinion on his choices, and does as he wants anyway, just glad to be of service :D :D :D

Let your values and what you value inform your decisions.
Your videos are very calming and informative. I watch them when I need a break from stress. Keep it up!
Excellent video, CKSPACE! You always bless us with valuable content.
This is a very insightful KZread video. The in-depth psychological and practical thoughts are interesting. I have found it very helpful to think and decide on one specific idea "prior to going shopping" for example. Spending too much time wandering or lacking direction is not good for the mind, body or soul. Simplify by only allowing a certain amount of precious time to be applied to a task. De-cluttering the home and removing any unhelpful thoughts or distractions will be beneficial. Your ideas and experiences are well shared here. Making a clear decision and being satisfied with it will calm the mind and body. It will increase confidence in the process and help to remove procrastination. Thank you.

Well said! Appreciate the nice words as well! Thanks Lorraine!
WOW! I can tell you put a lot of thought and time into creating this video, both through the filmmaking and the content itself. It shows! Thanks so much for sharing.
Great video as always! Love the clear and calm way you talk and explain everything. Decision making is one of my struggles many times. I always keep thinking 'what if I chose the other option?', even before choosing. I keep analysing and over analysing the available options instead of just choosing what I want, like or need most. Keep up the great work! I'm slowly learning more and more about minimalism thanks to amazing people like you and slowly trying to apply it's principles where it works for me (decluttering for example).
In Sweden they do not like too many choices, especially in the grocery store.
Thanks man this was really helpful...I really needed to hear this!
So true!
I can relate to this so much! Thanks for the video

As choice increases, so does the paralysis of decision.
It’s sooo true. I find making a choice sometimes paralysing with the range choice presented.
This video is so true!

Hi Cheng, Thank you for another well researched and meaningful video. This one allowed me to go within and reflect on how I make decisions, I discovered that I am already using most of your recommendations. I do have one to add though, I often go within and ask myself for the answer. I find this works remarkably well

Your channel is my inspiration on creating my youtube video. You're brilliant 👍☺️
Hey buddy. Great stuff as usual, made me realize that I have more decision paralysis than I thought. Some quick feedback, there's no time gap or gap in speech between the different sections of the video (and the font was too small even on my TV).. this made it a bit harder for me to follow so I had to rewind and check the section title again.
GREAT vid as usual bro love the commitment pls make more content

I love your videos and editing. They are very inspiring to my channel but, I think you should add that feature of chapters. It would be really helpful. - 9:55 so that's how you got your thumbnail👏
Song you used for the video?
I take a long time to choose something but when I choose it lasts a long time :D . I want a puppy that's the dilemma right now hahaha hard choice. I write what I want on the note app and then after a while I do not get half of the things. I'm not a big spender or buyer.
Nice one mate!

I have a question about minimalism. What is the minimalists approach to money? Is it that you minimize spendings and possession to maximise possession of money? Or do you then also give the money that you save by minimizing to donate it to people for a good cause? I know that minimalism is a lifestyle but for me it would be more like a way to maximise the numbers on my bank account so minimalism = maximalism in a way. So that's why i wonder how do you deal with it? is this what you also want or how do you minimise the money when you dont spend it
@derburner792
4 жыл бұрын
@Deb I see. But what I mean is how does a minimalist feel about money? Do you set a limit to the amount of money you want to possess when you are a minimalist? Or is it that you are a minimalist because you want to have lots of saved money?
I would like to move to Singapore.
