Can you also mention how much it costs to buy these ready made vs the diy version

Sure! If you are completely new to candle making and would have to buy all the supplies needed to make these candles including the candle making gear (besides household things like stove tops and paper towels etc ;) ), your first 35 candles would cost around $71 USD. That would also leave you with a lot of extra supplies (tealight cups, wicks) to make your next batches of candles and would give you scented candles. The cheapest price I could find beeswax/coconut oil tealights going for with a quick search was approximately $17 for ten candles so for a batch of 35 candles that would cost over $59 and would leave you with no gear for candle making or extra supplies and that also doesn't include scented candles. So if you are planning to make and use more than that you would be making the right choice to hand make them. You might also be able to reuse your tealight cups and get some extra life out of them once they are empty. I'll pin this post for others to see. ^_^ Thanks for the question!

Great details! I didn't realize you had to check the temp of the wax, I would have started to pour the wax once it melted, haha. Thank you!

Thank you! We actually learn that tip from Candle Science, they do a lot of product tests and found that was the optimal temp for hold scent in the wax!

As a candle maker and as a person that only uses CandleScience, I suggest getting the small wick stickers if you plan on making the tealight candles. They're a great help and prevent the wick from moving when pouring the wax.

You can also dip the bottoms of the wicks into the melted beeswax so they stick to the bottom of the containers before you pour.

great candle making tutorial ladies thank you!!!! I love bees wax i would never use soy wax or soy anything anyways. i would like to ask you :how do you feel about fragrance oils synthetic and perhaps so harmful to the body while a candle is burning, I know fragrance oils are extremely strong because of the chemical infusion in them, and yes I must agree they smell good...but what are we actually breathing? Can you do a bees wax candle tutorial using essential oils? thanks

Good one, Anna, the synthetics are hormone disrupters. The scent of pure honey-scented beeswax has therapeutic properties and ionizes the air while they burn. They DO NOT need fragrances. BUT, if a scent is what is desired, it would be advisable to infuse the wax with pure unadulterated essential oils for more therapeutic effects. We have got to stop poisoning ourselves with chemical hormone disrupters disguised as ‘scents’. It’s scent pollution everywhere.

@@aryanahartwell3801 yes i totally agree all we need is beeswax the correct wick size and magic takes place . I have tried a blend of essential oils and really worked for me: orange, cinnamon and clove. the temperature of the wax has to be cooler of course in order to preserve the oil properties, But normally i simply use pure beeswax or I also mix it with coconut oil.

It helps reduce the chances of a cracked or melted through candle holder by reducing the liquid temperature of the candle.

Why don't you use wick stickums to adhere the wick to the tea light? That wick is going to float and therefore is a possible fire waiting to happen once those wicks drift, which they will.

  • @DamselsinDIY

+Suzanne Meyers To be honest I’ve made a burned several hundred of these and never had wicks float or drift on me, but it is good to know there is a solution for that.
