Nice recipe but i would need to season this way to bland for me. I would have also brushed some butter on that crust its a little pale for me.

This pie needs onions, garlic, thyme, rosemary, maybe some Worcestershire or soy sauce...even a little red wine if you’re into that.

I was wondering, is there a particular reason why the original beef pan wasn't used to make the gravy? All those wonderful beef flavours from the bottom of the pan would have given the gravy an even more incredible beef flavour. But maybe there was a reason for using a different pan for the gravy, I'm just wondering what is was? Also, I'd recommend using a much cheaper cut of beef for this as it is slow cooked, a cheaper cut of meat would be just as good but much more affordable. The thought of putting a beautiful bit of sirloin in a pie nearly made me cry, teehee. Good old cheap cuts like brisket is perfect for these type of recipes as the meat is slow cooked and tender. This pie looks incredibly delicious. My Hubby would love it. Thanks for sharing. Lee xx

I was thinking of making something like this. I was planning on using beef stew meat. It's already cut into bite sized portions and comes somewhat cheap.

I definitely would have deglazed the pan the beef was cooked in with the beef broth.. That would have added much more flavor. I would have left the beef chunky and added onions in with the other veggies. Also would have left the extra pie dough on. Other than that great recipe.

I like pot pies chunky so could you leave the beef in cubes or would you have to make them smaller?

One inch cubes should be bite sized for adults and school-age children, but you might have to use a bit more beef (1.5 pounds or so) to make sure that your pie is meaty enough. I suspect the creator of this recipe shredded the meat since she was using a more expensive cut and had to make sure that the pie had beef pretty evenly distributed. If you don't want to shred you might have to use a bit more beef.

I would suggest cooking the pie crust in the oven first, for around 10 minutes with something weighing it down inside, then poking multiple holes in the base with a fork before putting it back in the oven for another 5 minutes before you put the filling in. This just makes it nice and firm and properly cooked

Like this recipe, however I will cook the beef in broth (not water), them reserve stock to cook the veggies in, then reserve the stock again to make the gravy. Also would add a couple mashed anchovies and a tablespoon vinegar

If you want a quick and lazy version of this here you go. Put some pre cubed stew meat potatoes and carrots in a pressure cooker and pour in the beef broth. Season to taste then cook around 10-15 once its built up pressure. While thats going heat your oven then what i like to do is add a bottom crust to the pan and pre heat it a bit. Once thats done and the pressure cooker is done remove the meat and vegetables adding it to the bottom crust. Add a slurry like in the video cooking it in the pot till its a gravy. Top the mixture with it then put the top crust over venting as seen in the video. Everything is basically cooked your just browning the crust at this point. Since you pre cooked the bottom crust it doesnt take long to finish. Once the top crust is done thats it your done. The pressure cooker already makes the meat and veggies fork tender.

I've made this recipe twice now. The secret to the crust is (and I did this both times) : Do not put the top crust on right away, let the filling and bottom crust bake first. I let mine basically completely bake, then pulled it out and added the top crust. That lead to perfectly browned bottom and sides and perfect golden brown top.

Great recipe is you have! Add additional ingredients: Peel 2-3 turnip bottoms, cut 1/2 inch cubes. Bring to boil 4-5 cups water, turn to simmer in a small pot, add cubed turnip bottoms, cook with with lid on, stir occassionaly, cook eight to ten minutes. Can season with salt, pepper. Add to your beef pot pie with the other ingredients.

Why not poor the beef in with the veg and add cornstarch and cook it all all together rather than take out veg make a gravy separate and then poor it over? Very silly! And where is the seasoning? Where is the garlic and onions? That must taste so darn boring

why not just mix the gravy into everything, instead of just pouring it on top? what is the reason for this? you'd think mixing would make an consistently even gravy taste. Also I know for a FACT that the oven was not preheated when you placed the pie in the oven with no gloves, LMAO.
