After my recent travel to Cape Town and staying at the O'Two hotel in Mouille point, I made this video to illustrate what exactly to look for when booking accommodation that needs to be wheelchair-friendly.
These simple few things to look for make it possible for most wheelchair users to stay there.
Enjoy the vlog! See you in a few day's time.

Thanks so much! I’m going to forward to family members who keep booking family vacation cabins that are supposedly accessible…and yet always work for everyone great for everyone else but me , the chic in the chair

Great tips... the outside chair is a really clever one. I look for wide doorways, and furniture or unnecessary breakable objects to be removed as well. Do you not wish to stay in the accessible rooms? They have all that sorted out, although.. they're the most poorly placed of ground floor rooms imho. Thanks again, you're awesome.😊😊👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Ask them to take out the bed frame...shorter transfer down onto the bed; MUCH easier climb to get back into the chair in the AM. I hate that some motels now have the pillow top mattresses which may be comfortable for some, but place the top surface of the bed at the level of my shoulder. ...and management doesn't want to know.

A spray bottle with water 💦 will get the wrinkles out. They call it a man iron lol 😂 But I use that hack myself when I don’t want to iron or steam something 😉 😊

I'm flying to Greece in May and had such a huge problem with finding an accessible place. I was going to buy and ship a shower chair to the place I'm staying at BUT I will steal now an outside chair for my shower! This is genius! Thanks for that, you just saved me €40 at least:)

I always tell people I need doors, arches or any kind of floor access to objects to be at least 68 centimeter wide, 93 centimeters of free room where I am supposed to be able to turn around and I'm golden. My wheelchair is quite compact. I do however prefer a higher bed. It's significantly harder to transfer to a higher wheelchair than a higher bed, because you can't properly ground yourself on a soft bed for the higher range of motion required for such transfers. Therefore I always prefer my beds to be higher. I pull my pants up lying on the bed, but I have no issue with rocking myself sideways in my wheelchair to pull my pants up either, so my feet not touching the ground is not an issue. Big plus for mentioning those cursed carpets! :D

@@AlwynUys Carpets, but really anything that's uneven terrain makes my life a living hell with my front wheels. I make it a point to order my wheelchairs with the biggest front casters that can physically fit in that space, with the proper construction they are close enough to center mass anyway to turn just as easy as smaller ones and contrary to popular belief, they don't wobble at higher speeds at all if the bearings aren't crap. I currently have 125mm casters but I'll go for 140mm next time if I can. Picks a carpet up just as easily when the wheel turns, but at least I don't have to avoid cobblestones.

This video just showed up in my YT Recommends. 00:28 Inaccessible power points near floor level, behind furniture. So _MANY_ hotels do this, it's not funny. This is a problem for able bodied as well as disabled. 00:42 Drying a shirt. A fan heater directed at the shirt for several hours will work. A hair dryer, as you found out, is useless. 01:31 Bathroom and Toilet. Absolutely _NOT_ safely accessible despite your being able to fit. No hand railings in the bathroom in general, or in the toilet cubicle, or shower stall. No emergency safety buzzer push strip at floor level. No Red Cord in either the toilet cubicle or shower stall. 2:28 Shower stall No bench type shower seat, annoying. No shower chair, Your fault for not asking for one. Yes, I do agree that my assessment on your situation in this particular matter is a harsh criticism of you, but in this very specific instance, it really _IS_ your fault. 02:59 Shower chair work around Manifestly unsafe. You don't know and didn't look for, the SWL of that chair, so you can't know if the chair will hold your weight. 3:43 bed height That's a hazard for any guest of this hotel, able bodied or disabled. 04:31 Steps and stairs Complete access barriers for anyone using a rollator walker. Anywhere a wheelchair cannot go, a rollator walker cannot go, so steps and stairs are barriers to more than just wheelchair users. 04:58 "carpets" BZZZZT!!! WRONG! You lose 10 points! What you are calling a "carpet" is actually a rug. Rugs and wheelchairs or rollator walkers are an immediate fail state. When a hotel room has this, require the rug to be removed from the room for the duration of your stay. If the hotel refuses to remove the rug, then terminate your stay immediately, as the hotel is refusing to resolve an access and safety issue.
