It's about time they showed tiny houses geared for people with disabilities. Not everybody can climb up steep stairs and ladders. Show more of these.

Agreed. My mobility is swiftly declining and while I’m having fun designing tiny houses with my iPad (on drop axel goosenecks), I’m mindful to include a min 36” hallway, accessible bathroom, and an elevator to my personal loft (on the gooseneck). For safety reasons, I’ve also been including tiny stairs to my loft, and the second loft space (for my 19yo daughter) is stair access only.

I'm so glad to know a company will customize a home for the disabled because this is more common than people realize and I love this home. So much detail Blessings to you. Your inner shine and energy is contagious

This home is amazing. As a disabled person who has a electric wheelchair it is wonderful to actually see a tiny house that could actually accommodate my needs. The fact that there are decks and ramps outside are key to anyone who has a wheelchair. I currently live in an older house that isn’t handicap friendly. The doors are only 32 inches wide compared to the 36 standard requirement now. Haven’t been able to find anyone who can do a ramp without destroying the house and costing an arm and a leg that I don’t have.

Really good to see a tiny house I could actually live in as I’m disabled.

Must admit my first thoughts are that there's an awful lot of things reliant on hydraulics, etc. That concerns me because of how much can go wrong or stop working altogether. You just know that will happen when you are nowhere near someone who can fix the problem. I know this is a custom build, but I would like to see simpler designs suitable for people with mobility issues.

I thought the same thing...as you say hydraulics can fail, ha did mention it was all running off 12 volt batteries, if they run flat, you're stuck. Maybe a back-up could be something like the hand winches for sails used on boats...just an idea...

ya but if u worry about stuff like that all the time , u wont have nothing, their is always someone around that can fix it, and they make new parts everyday, so get living and don't sweat the small stuff, just say'en !!!!!!!!!

Yeah, this guy is gonna hate this house the first time he gets the flu. Its made for him to be at his best. Whats he gonna do when he can't jump 2-3 feet up in that shower and theres 5 feet of snow on the ground? He lives in idaho, not Arizona. I'm glad hes happy, but this is a horrible build.

Anyone worried about power outages could use a back-up battery or generator, but there are also plenty of manual options: - A permanent bed that could be used as a reading nook or guest seating during the day - Murphy bed that pulls down with a telescoping pole with hook on the end - The Camper tiny house by Build Tiny in New Zealand showing counterweight bed fully descended over couch and also in bunk bed mode with couch unfolded to accommodate up to two additional adults. (pull down with pole) - Tons of counterweight ceiling beds in Kirsten Dirksen's video "Adaptive space-saving bed snaps into ceiling when not needed" - Beautiful San Juan tiny house tour on Tiny House Expedition channel. Spot on. I can't stand to get to the upper storage, and he didn't actually show some things because they were too hard for him to get to. We had to just take his word that what he was talking about is actually there. Too much noise with the hydraulics. The only way to truly make a home accessible is to bring the customer in and literally build the home around him. I designed and adapted my bathroom for my specific needs, which for me was to build a platform at 22 inches high, with the rim of the toilet sunk in to be flush (pun intended) with the hight of the platform, and then to also raise the shower so the floor of the shower was flush with the platform. All I have to do is scoot. There is no such thing as "Wheelchair accessible" or "handicapped accessible". The two terms have different meanings. "Wheelchair accessible" means being able to get around a space while in a wheelchair. Wheelchairs are different heights and different widths. "Handicapped accessible" means meeting the needs of the individual based on their spacific disability (and abilities). "Accessible" public restrooms don't work for everyone who has a disability. The same can be said for hotel rooms and bathrooms. People only think in broad general terms that ultimately don't work. Able bodied people are often the ones who are designing things they think will actually work...until they don't.

This is awesome! I’m a 48 year old single, soon-to-be empty nester with MS. I’ve been wanting to get into a tiny house due to affordability and ease in care, but absolutely cannot climb ladders. I’ve been concerned about this issue as I’m sure as my condition progresses I’ll need to implement some of these ideas. Thank you so much for sharing this!

I know this is from two years ago, but you should think about looking into shed to house conversions! They are way cheaper than a regular house, and a lot of times cheaper than a typical tiny house as well. They can do some really cool stuff with shed to house conversions. 😊

Was curious to see what designers would do for a wheelchair accessible tiny house. Impressive. Really like the ceiling storage hatch. Looks cozy. Enjoy!

I love this. It’s so important to consider younger people with disabilities too. We cant all have lofts. Even people who don’t use wheelchairs can still have mobility issues that builders just don’t consider.

The best is the ramp stow. Very clever. This a good example of things you figure out as you live. You make improvements based on what you need.

I just saw this. I am amazed! I never knew! I am a sci patient too. Never thought i could have a tiny house! I am definitely going to do this!

The house is nice but I prefer Marc! Wowzer

Wow! This may have convinced me to go from converting a schoolie back to a trailer! I think I would put in big sliding doors to go with that amazing "porch". I have a 14 year old son that is medically fragile and in a wheelchair. My goal is to create some type of RV that we can travel in with him full time. It's encouraging to see companies designing products like this. Since I am a single mom, I will be customizing one myself, but I love the ideas. Thank your for sharing!!

Love the idea of tiny homes or houseboats, but as someone with a degenerative muscle disease I've been worried about whether or not they could be made to suit my needs, looks like it might be possible. Good video

How can I look at the home when I can't take my eyes off of Marc?! 🤗 So handsome... his smile is just beautiful. What a hottie... w/a personality to match! I'd love to go out w/him or at least on a date lol... seems like he'd be so much fun. Anyways, about the house lol, what a really cool one. I've never seen a tiny home where the bed is on hydraulics.. how genius! Even for someone who isn't in a wheelchair.. wow, such a space saver! I also love his "garage". It seems like a nice size so you could definitely put a good amount of storage in there. I didn't quite understand the emergency steps in the garage though. I thought Marc said it was an emergency stairwell down from the loft? But the "loft" is just his bed & seems too far away from those steps. Idk... maybe I missed something. Anyhow, what a really cool home! ❤

My first thought after the deck was fully up was "That is the most epic zombie Apocalypse Bug out rig! You could just close up the side to keep the hoards out!" Truly a fantastic build, and that accessbility is far too underrepresented in this community! Plus the zombie hoard features to boot.

I love this. I have lived in small spaces most of my life, and even created a tiny home from a corrugated metal work shop on a piece of property I bought. It was ugly on the outside so not to attract a lot of people when I was not home since I lived in country. It just looked like an old metal storage building. Inside it was beautiful with a small kitchen area, full size appliances, built in lower shelving with counter top on top of them. a full sink, hot water, etc. wonderful drainage from the sink so good I lost my wedding rings forever down the drain never to be found. Had a living room/ bedroom with hideabed. Shelving, Hot water closet, dry walled and wallpaper on a wall for accent. It was a 20 by 17 building on a slab. Loved it. Used a small camper we had for use as a bathroom and had tub and shower plus space for more people. But, now, many years later, I have sold that property and am disabled in wheelchair on fixed income. I would love to make a tiny home to live in I could use my wheelchair, and there are so many ideas here. I am afraid to ask the cost of a place like yours and would need to add a hospital type bed by adapting the hospital bed I have. That I can't figure out so far. I loved your video and think you are amazing!

Im still planning to steal a few ideas for my own place since i to have to be in wheelchair some days.

I would need a roll-in shower, the storage in the ceiling is useless unless you can stand. Besides that, it is great.

I think that is awesome, that you can have a tiny house and also be self sufficient! I really would have liked to have seen the operation of how your bed goes up and down; you know, the mechanical aspect of it!

Hi Dana, the bed is an electric bed, there is a switch on the wall and all you have to do is push the button and it goes up or down.

Gotcha! I love that concept! I would like to get a tiny house but I don't want to have to go up stairs or a ladder! I also want to keep it on the smaller side of a tiny house! Do you know how much weight the bed mechanics added to the house?

Great ideas throughout. May be in a wheelchair one day myself. Love the drop down bed, more THs should use that idea instead of lofts with climbing ladders all the time. Wow, this is amazing. The ramp scares me a little as it's very steep and there are no railings or anything to keep from slipping off the edge. I know this is an old post, but the wheelchair is by a company called TiLite. I believe they are still U.S. based.

House seems nice and all, but I'd second most of the other commenter's opinions on the hydraulics. If it breaks, and you can't fix it yourself, you're screwed. I like the ramp tuck in sort of idea, seems easy enough to me! But also the fact that Marc has no breaks on his chair is stressing me out lmao

Not Really. He has enough mobility to go to a plan "B". I've been using a chair for close to 60 years. The rear wheels on that chair pop off at a push on a button at the center hub. Go to the non "disabled" exit, remove rear wheels on chair, scoot to exit, transfer chair body and wheels out., self exit, and resemble. Yea, even if it means your laying in the dirt! You have to want it.

Being paralyzed I think this is great & over due... and since a lot of disabled people are living on fixed incomes this is a much more feasible option.

Looks like he can stand when holding onto something. So if he’s able to stand (even if he can’t walk) then the none roll in shower is a space saver.

he would have to spend a lot of time drying all the little parts to the chair. A slide in seat would be great though.

Toby, you can see the kitchen and living area. living is where the slide out is and same is the kitchen. if you watch the entire video, you will see it around minute 4.

Okay, he's been in this place for a few years now, so I'd like to know the things he needed to change. We're things as useful as he'd thought they be, and what didn't he have done, that he later figured out he'd need. What was all the "tweaking" that needed to happen? Even folks without disabilities end up having to do some modifications, so he must have had to do some as well. UPDATE PLEASE!!

Can these be bought? My dad has been in the nursing home and this looks perfect for him.

I'm in a wheelchair and I think having to share this little space with another person would drive me crazy, especially with my chair. Is that an RV?

I am also 100% disabled as you are. There is no facility for me to be disabled in India. You are very lucky that you have been born in this country. You are not as unfortunate as me.

How do you use that shower? It's off the ground and you're in a wheelchair. I can't figure it out.

Not everyone in a wheelchair is a paraplegic. I myself use a power wheelchair due to hyper mobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, I can stand and walk a few steps, but have to sit down while showering. And use a power chair for my daily movements that require more than a few painful steps.
