How to Make a Zipper Overlay Pocket for a Bag
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I cannot stop myself from making my zippered slip pockets with overlays now that I've unlocked the magic trick to using them! They are so easy! I don't even have a SVG cutter anymore (ok, so some poor decisions were made). Take a look at how easy this is, step by step!

Love your sense of humor while working through this tutorial. It's a great reminder that this should be FUN, not a chore - something to enjoy, mistakes and all. Thank you for sharing.
Hands-down, this is the best zipper overlay Video I’ve seen yet! Obviously, the other ones didn’t work for me because I was still searching videos on how to sew a zipper overlay😂. I love your sense of humor, you crack me up😊

I love that the YT community doesn't have this weird competition between creators. We all have different ways of teaching and explaining how things work. Everyone benefits from the differing perspectives! On Twitch, there's a lot more "drama" when streamers do the same or similar things as it's a fight for live viewers.
I love your videos!! I love the way you teach and your sense of humor!!! You are amazing and talented!!
You seriously crack me up! Get another cricket cutter! 😆 I wish people were more like you!

I really want the Brother Scan-n-Cut, but after I sold the Cricut from barely using it for over a year, I'm not sure I can convinced the family that it's a sound decision :P
That was a terrific video, as always, fun and really clear so, thank you
Thank you sew very much for the clear (and funny) zipper overlay instructions! This video helped me to understand exactly how to do this and it made me laugh out loud! 🤣
You are such an AMAZING teacher and too funny!!! Love this video!
I appreciate it when you have to move or alter what you’re making so don’t apologize!
That was a great, clearly explained tutorial- I’m excited to try this
I used my Cricut with the slice feature to remove the middle section from the zipper overlay. It was so easy.
The Pemberley Pouch pattern uses this technique. I was very happy to find your video to make sure I install the zipper correctly. Great video!

I love watching these videos.
I just made several SVG files on Canvas Workspace for Zipper Overlays. I hope they work, but I will have to probably adjust size in my Scan n Cut. Thanks for the super tutorial!
Enjoy your videos! Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic work, great tutorial. Thank you! Ann in England!

Haha yeah! I work from the East coast, but my coworkers are all on the West coast. I get a couple of hours in the morning that are pretty quiet. I sometimes opt to do this and work through lunch instead :)
Thank You For Sharing This, Love Your Bags.😀😃🙂
I love watching your videos. I understand everything you teach and your personality and quirkiness matches mine 😆 so I definitely understand what you say 😂😁 x
You're amazing. Thank youuuu!!!
Hi, first of all I love your tutorials. They are very informative. I have a question. I made my whole bag and I am finding that the zipper is too wide. Can I do an overlay ,when the bag is already done and put the overlay on top of zipper
Very nice!

Love your videos❤
thanks for great video
I love your tutorials . I'm from Australia and have started making bags to sell. I also suffer from OCD and I think I'm quite normal.
You crack me up ! Alien fingers 😂
Signature Fruit-fly look 😂. Great tutorial! Thank you.
You make the best bag tutorials 💯🙌 So informative and you take the anxiety out of it with your stellar sense of humor 🤣🥰 What kind of machine are you using in this tutorial, and what presser foot are you using? Im looking into purchasing an industrial sewing machine. Thank you Kittenz!!!

Thank you for all your guidance, I so appreciate you. I have question, would it look weird if these pockets were on both sides of backpack or purse? I want two pockets but thinking it might look not right. Please let me know, thanks ❤️
@fiercekittenz
Жыл бұрын
I don't think it'll look weird! If there's enough room for it on the sides, give it a try? Usually when I'm not sure, I'll make it first out of some super cheap vinyl or canvas.
Hi I’m new to your page. So far I’ve learnt some new things. My question is, did you put a link on where you bought the overlayer templates? I didn’t see. Thank you btw for this video

Love your video. Side note try a pair of Duckbill Scissors.
Doesn’t this leave the zipper only supported by the vinyl overlay? What prevents that from tearing?
@fiercekittenz
Жыл бұрын
No, it is also sewn into the panel of the bag when you topstitch both inner and outer portions.
Would this work on a large scale? Like putting it over the main zipper of a duffle bag?
@fiercekittenz
Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried, but I wouldn't see why not - you'd probably just put vinyl strips next to the zipper on either side instead of doing what I've done here though.
Wow! amazing what weight of thread are you using!!! Great Job!
@fiercekittenz

I typically use Tex 70 or 90 thread from Wizard Stitchery and Craft: geekyhardware.com/
hey, just found you, could you advise me on the tape you are using, and the pattern for the bag (AND), lol, where you get the vinyl from? Thank you kindly.
@fiercekittenz

The tape is Tandy Leather's 1/4" leather tape. The vinyl and the pattern are proprietary - just mine and not for sale.

Oh, but I can tell you where I got the vinyl printed if you want? It was *years* ago - and it was $$$ through AliExpress.

That's my secret. I'm always tired.
wondering why you put the tape at the top, doesn't this mean you are sewing over the tape? IAnd doesn't it gum up your needle? it does on mine. would put it in the middle so you do not have to sew either line on the tape. comments?
@fiercekittenz
Жыл бұрын
You can do either! I don’t have issues with gumming of the needle. This is Tandy Leather’s tape so maybe that’s why?
This is a super useful and very amusing tutorial. Could you do another using fabric rather than vinyl? Or at least give some advice? Bunching corners and hours of my life lost trying to make welts look professional. I like this technique and am going to try it today!
@fiercekittenz
Жыл бұрын
So for the overlay you'd definitely want to stick to vinyl or leather. I wouldn't advise doing anything with canvas or wovens in general there. You could put this on top of woven though and not worry about any of the raw edges showing. They'll get encased! In fact, I did several leading up to this tutorial that were in canvas.

@@fiercekittenz not even with some stabiliser and thermo-collant ? I've been doing experiments with fusing fabric to plastic to see how it behaves. I think it's possible but it would have to be very stable and not frey. But I just need to try. That's the part of bag making I really love is solving problems, finding new and better techniques. Just found your channel and I'm really enjoying the tutorials. Let your freak flag fly.
