I've never seen anyone not backstitch and instead pull the thread through the back and tie it off That was an eye opener. Thanks!

Common procedure to keep things neat and tidy.😊
Excellent tutorial, one suggestion would be to explain why you sew one edge of the overlay and then flip the fabric down to sew the other side so that new sewists don’t sew completely around the box thinking they know what they’re doing… I have to force myself to watch the full video before thinking I know what I’m doing lol

If you sew all around, you won't be able to use the pocket. Everything will be stuck at the top. Test with scraps, and you will see what I am talking about.

Thank you Elle, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!
great video TFS ... p.s. instead of Elmers glue you could try sewline (used for EPP) if you use it sparingly you should be able to pull it away in a month or longer but it will stay till you pull it.

Thanks! Yes I do have sewline, I've tested it out and while I like it, as much as I use it is just not cost effective. It is pricey and I am frugal (cheap) hahahah!
Thank you so much. Your videos are so helpful. I’m also glad that you’re publishing videos more lately.

Fabulous tutorial. 💗I need to hunt down an 1/8” foot. Seems like it may keep from having to keep opening and closing the zipper to keep it out of the way.

Thank you, Amy, for all your videos and teaching! I want to learn all that you are sharing. Question: Is the Amazon product Tandy Leather Tanner's Bond Adhesive Tape 5 mm the same as the Tanner's Bond Permanent Adhesive Tape on the Tandy website? I would like to purchase the permanent DST that you recommend. Thanks!

I'm sorry for the delay Erin. Yes it is the same. I would also check the Permanent DST over at WAWAK. It works great! This is it and it is super sticky! www.wawak.com/garment-construction/tapes/wawak-hyperstik-super-strong-double-sided-vinylleather-basting-tape-clear/#sku=tpe28

Thank you! The fabric I used was a Fat Quarter I picked up at Joann Fabrics awhile ago.
What machine is that with the skinny foot? It's amazing.
@AmyLynneDesigns

My machine is an Industrial Juki 8700 straight stitch flat bed. I love it. It has great feet options and unlike a domestic the feet are super cheap! Check out Sewing Gold for the machine. They are a great company to work with.
Do you have a video on how to create the cork overlay ? It must be hard to cut the opening straight. Thank you.

I sew on a Juki DDL 8700 straight stitch flat bed machine. She is wonderful! The foot I used in the video was originally called a split hinged narrow foot and now you can find it as a narrow Zipper foot. Cutex Sewing carry’s it and so does Wawak. Here’s a link to grab it from Wawak www.wawak.com/sewing/sewing-machine-accessories/feet/zipper-split-hinged-sewing-machine-foot-40322shp363/

I’m assuming you mean shorts. I don’t sew clothing, sorry.
I thought I was following the video but i sewed the zipper shut 😢... what did I do wrong abs in sewing vinyl😱
@AmyLynneDesigns

I’m guessing you sewed the bottom edge with the pocket flipped down. When you sew the bottom edge the pocket has to be up and out of the way so you don’t catch it and sew it closed.
@AmyLynneDesigns
2 ай бұрын
Jump to 10:55 and you’ll see when I sew the bottom edge I have the pocket to the left or to the top of the bag.
Would have been better to show how you folded the pocket lining away from the zipper -visually, along with the script, instead of taking so much time tying the threads. This will be a big issue for lots of seamers.

Thanks for that feedback! I've done this for others in person and tying the knots was a struggle. I'll try to focus on both in the patterns this will be used on!
