I've never seen anyone not backstitch and instead pull the thread through the back and tie it off That was an eye opener. Thanks!

Excellent tutorial, one suggestion would be to explain why you sew one edge of the overlay and then flip the fabric down to sew the other side so that new sewists don’t sew completely around the box thinking they know what they’re doing… I have to force myself to watch the full video before thinking I know what I’m doing lol

If you sew all around, you won't be able to use the pocket. Everything will be stuck at the top. Test with scraps, and you will see what I am talking about.

great video TFS ... p.s. instead of Elmers glue you could try sewline (used for EPP) if you use it sparingly you should be able to pull it away in a month or longer but it will stay till you pull it.

I’m guessing you sewed the bottom edge with the pocket flipped down. When you sew the bottom edge the pocket has to be up and out of the way so you don’t catch it and sew it closed.

  • @AmyLynneDesigns

Jump to 10:55 and you’ll see when I sew the bottom edge I have the pocket to the left or to the top of the bag.

Would have been better to show how you folded the pocket lining away from the zipper -visually, along with the script, instead of taking so much time tying the threads. This will be a big issue for lots of seamers.

Thanks for that feedback! I've done this for others in person and tying the knots was a struggle. I'll try to focus on both in the patterns this will be used on!
