How to make a Pirate Coat. DIY Pirate Costume Frock Coat.
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here's a great little project for converting a long coat into a pirate coat. This would also be a great navy officer coat, or even a base for some sweet steampunk fashion.

Inspired by Our Flag Means Death, I came searching for how to make a Spanish Jackie frock coat. This short video delivered in spades! Thank you for giving measurements in centimetres, for recommending a thrifted jacket (brilliant!), and for keeping it simple yet visually effective.
This channel is one of those rare gems you accidentally stumble upon while scrolling through KZread. Keep up the good work! :)
LOVING that you went for a THRIFTED coat as a basis and used SEWING (and not hot glue or other quicker ways that don't hold well with time) ! And you kept it simple yet effective !

Thanks!! Yeah, even though I use hot glue for my foam patterns, I just really can't ever bring myself to using it on fabric- where sewing is so much better in every way!
Everybody needs a little Jack Sparrow in their heart.
Can you make a full steampunk costume ? With a coat , shoes and more ? And then use the hats and goggles that you made ? It would be very helpful ! :) nice video !

Hmmm, I'll have to see how things go. I seem to be low on time, but with a big list of projects to get to.
this is a really clever project! let me share something with you. if you are using a regular home machine, buy needles designed for use with denim or leather for your sewing machine (almost any fabric store has them). nobody remembers to tell you this, but it will save you a lot of time changing broken needles!
These really are the best diy videos out there! Both informative and hilarious. Always bings a smile on my face
We have a Pirate Day coming up this Sunday in Hastings UK. There are going to be thousands of Jack Sparrows here. They're going to count all the pirates on the beach and we'll see, if we can beat the record ☠️ 🏴☠️ 🦜 your tutorial is awesome!

Awww, that sounds amazing!!
My four year old daughter loves watching your vids lol... She wouldn't let me go to the next vid without watching this one all the way through.. at the end she said, "Wear a scarf then" when you said your hands were freezing.. :P Have a wonderful day!!!
I'm making my frock coat from the Sir Peter Teazle 1960s pattern. Going ok so far. Its got a "stand aside, peasant!" feel to it.
This guy is living his extra life
I saw this three years ago and just yesterday I finally found a black leather coat for this project. Who would have a thought that 3 years and $20 is all that separated me from this project

Nice!! That's some good patience:) I hope it turns out amazing!!
Ah yes, a creative person back at it again with a very creative project! Very good job, sir!
I'll never get over your creativity! It amazes me how you make all sorts of things like this coat, the diver helmet, and the rest of your steampunk things out of basic materials. I'll definitely have to make this coat now!
I've been waiting FOR EVER for this video to come out!!
Cool looking! I personally made my own coat at school, and then made it look steampunk at home because obviously we had to do all the same. And now I'll use it the 18 February for a convention, with my steampunk cosplay (most of my accessories hat goggles ... are from your channel) so thanks for your videos you help me a lot !

I love a man that can sew!
Wow! You did an amazing job!
steampunk gauntlet.... (jeopardy music) waiting. ... great video
Followed your amazing tutorial for the tricorn hat and coat! They were a hit. Thank you for all the time and effort you put out there.
Just want to say thanks, I followed your directions to make a pirate coat and it came out great! Gave me the courage to do more thrift store modifications for more serious garments as well. Really appreciate this!
This is great. I have been wanting to find my husband a cool coat. This is great!
That looks great. I don't sew but I want to see what I can do with some fabric glue, safety pins, Velcro and maybe a bare minimum of sewing where needed.
I am already a fan of your work . I have used your videos as inspiration for other crafting projects. I just want you know that your creativity is so original and appreciated ! I thoroughly enjoy you expanding your videos to include sewing. Looking forward to more of your videos and creative genius.
This is absolutely genius! Absolutely amazing. With my grandma's help, I might be able to actually do this!
Just binging through your uploads list, I dig your goofiness, subbed..
Great job!!! Loved the showing of taping at the end!
You are skilled, you make sewing look easy but it's a real tricky job.
nice and cozy, thanks Chris
oh nice, love to see your ideas, nice! Yes, do more steampunk designs!
I love the intros to these videos!
Omg how do you always know when I'm having a rough day, or start a new hobby? I just started sewing! Yay! I love your creations

wouah. It looks really cool but it doesn't seem too difficult to do. Thank you so much for posting ! I'll be looking for the perfect coat.
Oh man. I must have missed this notification. WOW! The final project looks amazing! I wish I had sweet sewing skills. I love how you incorporate ridiculous scenarios/ scenes to "justify" your crafting. Favorite one of those by far is still the divers helmet that floated off XD

Yeah, I have a special place in my heart for the diver's helmet. It was the last one I did in Australia before moving back to Canada. I think we filmed it just a couple of days before we left.

@LostWax

well, a good start would be if you could do the same thing, but with a brown coat, you could use leather around the buttonholes, and it would be cool to add an intricate pattern on the cuffs, maybe by applying some trim creatively....

Thanks for the answer ! Yes it is brown but not leather sadly. I did some pockets and I will put a gold chain somehow on it. I think I will hang it from the pocket. I'm trying to add details because it looks empty. I added some button and like a leather strap in the middle that surround my body but I am not that good at making things look original. Anyways sorry for my English and thanks for the answers !
wow i make now a steampunk jack realy nice

Great vid! I just recently bought myself a second-hand red coat that I plan to transform into Gol D. Roger's coat. Hopefully it turns out well!

Thank you for risking frostbite to make this video! (Skin freezes in between 5 and 30 minutes depending on the temperature apparently!)
How many buttons were used? all the same size buttons?
Looks Super Complicated for me, I can't sew one time I sewed a sock together! At least I learned how to almost thread the needle! 😂😂 anyway awesome video beginning was hilarious your too cute! ☺😊😊 cool coat love it. PIRATES RULE!!

Would you have any recommendations for if the starting coat is double-breasted? (Also the clips of you in the blizzard are hilarious!!)
Hi Chris. Nice work on that coat! Do you have pictures of it front and back? I would like to do a similar one, but have trouble imagining how it ends up in full size:) ofc I can see in your vid how it looks - but still.. Thanks

LOVE IT!!Look for the metal buttons at a thrift store or state sale/yard sale. They're everywhere. Yess I love that you know it takes some sewing skills. I've been told I'm helping with a Steampunk Themed B'day in February that isn't even my kid. Okay. So much out there. Any information you want to divulge on SteamPumk?/?? Great Video.

Not sure what kind of Steampunk info you are looking for.... basically if you think victorian science fiction, that's a good start. Steam powered things, anything mechanical that you can see the workings of, airships that really shouldn't be able to fly, that kind of stuff....

Mmmm, delicious frock coat... I kinda want to do one in the Red/Olive chameleon pigments from SolarColorDust.com... Because who doesn't want to be an iridescent copper steampunk sky pirate?
Thats so much snow O.O
Hey, question. What's that paper that he uses at 3:16? There's no link in description to it or anything
