In this weeks video, I’m going to be teaching YOU how to make a cheap costume shirt look better. These techniques can be used to elevate any costume through aging, colors, and texture. For halloween, theatre, cosplay, larping, and much much more. I was prepping this particular shirt for my local renaissance faire! Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE!

Great tutorial. I am a retail store manager that just set a pirate theme Halloween set. I bought a very crisp looking pirate costume. I was literally going to drag the items around in my driveway. I am definitely going to try tea dying. Love your energy and the info was spot on.

Thanks for the 101. I've been looking for shirts without metal eyelets but I never considered to just cover them up.

So informative, so straightforward! You have such refreshing takes on creating; you’re so good at showing how anything from aging shirts to sewing puppets to putting on an entire musical really is possible. I will definitely be keeping the watered down acrylic trick in the back of my pocket. I do have to ask though, does it bleed in the wash? If so, how badly should I be prepared for? Haha

Thank you so much for your kind words! It definitely depends on the paint you use, so I would do a test wash or wash it by hand if you're worried. One of the reasons I use paint instead of dragging it through the actually mud (like I know a lot of people do) is because it doesn't come out as easily as actual dirt (and obviously for hygienic purposes). I hope that helps!

You transformed that cheapo shirt into a proper garment, thanks for the tips! My buddy is understandably intimidated by the prospect of dressing up (and the money required to do so) for the renaissance faire, so I wanted to learn a lil for myself and help the lad out. I love your energetic presentation! I watched a few other videos like these and they couldn't keep my scattered brain focused, but the smoooooth music and your natural ability to entertain overcame my ADHD. Hellll yeeaaahhh dude

This is exactly what I needed thank you! Also, I know this video is from 2 jears ago, but if you still have tea stains in your sink you could try removing them by rubbing hand soap on the stains! It's a trick learned from my mother to remove tea stains from ceramic mugs and porcelain cups. So maybe it also works on the sink?

I buy second hand sheets for $2 and make clothing out of that. Anything else is made with paper mache and card board. It lasts, and the only thing I spend real money on is LEDs for the lighting

Since you were already going for the stained look, it might have worked better to just grab a cheap bucket and a bottle of acryllic ink. Just mix the ink with water in the bucket and use that for a stain

I believe I used earl grey, but you can use pretty much any tea and still get the same effect : ) Just be a little careful when it comes to teas like peppermint or lavender, which might turn the shirt a pastel color instead of brown. If the cup of tea is brown, it's probably a safe bet
