Making the Pirate Costume of my DREAMS | Bloody Jack Cosplay
If life is what you make it, why not DIY your own historically-accurate pirate cosplay for a little adventure on the high seas? This outfit (men's shirt and trousers) was inspired by "Bloody Jack", a YA novel by L. A. Meyer. I am the slain pirate that earns Jack her nickname, when she shoots me square in the chest to save her friend.
The novel is set in 1790, so I constructed the outfit from Regency men's shirt and trousers patterns. Per the pattern, the trousers were originally fall-front. However, since clothes in the period were expensive, I imagined that my pirate simply stole his trousers from a dead crewmate (waste not, want not!), and hence, wears a button fly style that fell out of favor a few decades before.

I'm now dreaming of making my own pirate core stuff...I want to make a jumper that I can wear everyday but still has the vibes (just add tricorn hat vibes 🙃)

I am very new in the whole historical clothing thing, but started out as a cosplayer and try to incorportate those two. I am now reworking the shift of Hiccup (from the first How to train your dragon movie) with all the techniques I picked up to make it a more authentic viking look. I used both Bernadette Banners and Morgan Donner's video's on respectively the pirate shirt and the shift 👌 I love that there are so many tutorials out there now, since if I do not understand a certain step, I can use multiple sources and examples 💙

@@littleleftie8891 oh my gosh, I love that film! A historically accurate interpretation would be really cool to see. Have you found Elin Abrahamsson yet? She is, I believe, Swedish and does loads of research to do historical garments from her own country, since of course, most tend to be English or French.

Got a pirate (folklore outfit) shirt given to me at the beginning of the 70s. In linen. Loved it and used it as much as possible for about 10 years. It got lost in a move. Longed for it since. Now I've decided to make 5 and never loose one again. :)

I had the exact same issue with my pirate shirt I made using Bernadette’s video! I made the armscye bigger so that part was fine, but I actually cut the shirt like 2 inches in from the side seam all the way up and I’m gonna put in a new center panel and collar with adjusted ruffles. I turned the original center bit into a tank top for sleeping

I also followed Bernadette's tutorial. Had some trouble attaching the sleeves (ripped them off about three times) but eventually it turned out great

I’m glad you were able to figure it out!! I don’t know what on earth I did wrong to end up with such a wonky first try, but it was probably my bad for sure. I was just grateful someone was able to help me fix it lol
