Thanks for posting this! I want to make my boyfriend a blanket. He’s a Marine and I got the USMC fleece from Joann’s. 🥰

This helped me immensely! I’ve cobbled together four quilts or soft blankets for my three grandkids and I’m working on a full-to-queen size quilt for my granddaughter’s 6 th birthday this fall. I set it aside for making a soft blankie for my youngest granddaughter’s 1st birthday. I didn’t make one for her 4 year old brother because he’s autistic and never cared about them. Now, I’m planning on a textured blanket with fleece on the back, satin binding, but a quilt front made of various textures. I’m hoping I can get it made before I see him in June!

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. Sometimes you just want a simple and still lovely sewing project for that dopamine boost from getting something finished on your one day off work.

Another suggestion for finishing off the binding is to fold one end of the binding into a point and overlapping the first end. That way the seam is on a diagonal instead of straight. (I hope that makes sense.) Also using clips instead of pins to prevent holes or snags in the satin. Great video btw, it really helped me get an understanding on satin binding, it will be my first time working with it. I'll be making two quilts, a baby and a twin size.

Question: you are using binding without one edge wider, but mine is wider on one side. How do I sew two pieces together, making sure I match the two pieces width to width? (My geometry/visual spatial skills are rusty!)

I have found that on corners, I make sure the folded corners are opposite so that the miters lay more flat and doesn’’t get lumpy

wondering if a narrow strip of iron on interfacing (the tricot type for knits) or the wash away type along the edge to stabilize the fleece would help make the satin marry to the fleece more nicely.....

So you don't pin the satin trim onto the fleece at all? I'm afraid of the fleece slipping out as I sew. I don't have a walking foot.

If you have a walking door that can help. I also will use both hands, on above and one below to help with keeping things straight. Large clips can also help.
