I am so glad I ran across this. I have been making mine the hard way by matching the middles of each fabric and sewing them all the way around. This is so much easier.
This explains how to make this blanket simplified. I made one last year in a retreat. I was so confused I was afraid to try one on my own. I’m going to do one today with your instructions. Thank you so much!
Love it... simplified version ... excellent....clear and precise tutorial! As always...a very dedicated teacher! Thanks !
What a nice easy project! I especially love that you made a small sample to show us so we could see the whole thing on camera (smart cookie, you are!). You could even make the center part some sort of quilt pattern....although then (thinking out loud) you'd probably have to insert a piece of batting and then hand tack it all down or even machine quilt it using a straight stitch or free motion.
Love the idea of using soap as a marker on dark fabric. I am making a bunch of dog blankets - timely video! I will now make them using this process, rather than the boring method I had planned to use. Thank you!
At first on another video, I didn't think I'd make the blanket. Now I definitely will make one after seeing this great tutorial. I love how you included a small sample to show the technique. Many thanks, lovely hair I love the curls.
Oh my goodness, thank you for this video! Doing mitered corners with blanket binding was just something I never got the hang of and I always knew my baby blankets weren't as good as they could be. I can't wait to try this!
Thanks Laura for your very clear and detailed explanation of how to make this cuddly blanket 😍 Now I really want to make one for me 👍
your amazing ! Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I bought some minki and flannel to to make a self binding blanket without realizing that for a beginner it was a bit complicated for me. The material has been sitting in my sewing room. But now because of your tutorial i certain i understand how to do the self binding part. Thank you Thank you 😊
I'm impressed that how well you explained this!
So happy to find this tutorial! I am making my great-grandson a blanket and this will be a perfect one to make...Thanks so much...
You are a wonderful teacher! Thank you and keep them coming please!

Thanks so much for this video and the free pattern! Your tutorials and explanations are the best. Your efforts are much appreciated.
Great video explaining how to make this blanket! I’ve made a few of these over the years because they are easy and quick and good baby gifts. I used flannel fabric on top and cuddle on the back. Loved the fabric you used! Thanks again for another awesome tutorial!
Best explanation ever of this technique!
I’ve made so many of these over the years. As usual I Love your video. 💜
I've seen this tutorial from 3 different people but yours is the best!
Wish I’d seen this at Christmas when I was making quilt for my son in law. Much easier to see it in progress before trying it myself. Looks great!
Thank you for this tutorial! Seeing you do the small version was really helpful.
Your hair is very pretty. I hope mine gets to be that way. Thanks for the tips.
Showing this on a small sample makes this so much easier to understand. Genius!
I’ve been watching lots of different channels on making this type of blanket and I do have to say the way you explained and did your blanket was the easiest one 👍🏼 the very 1st one I saw I had a hard time following her and I just gave up then I saw a couple after that one and it was getting a little easier but thank God I watched yours because definitely this is the one I’m going to follow. My niece just had a baby girl 3 weeks ago so right now I’m going to make some Burp Clothes and after I’m make her this blanket. Thank you for making it so easy to follow 😍. I also wanted to say I already Follow you and I really enjoy your videos 👍🏼
Love ❤️ it!!! You make it seems so easy and I love your instructions! Thank you.
Always a favourite blanket for the kids!!
Your videos are so beautifully explained so everyone will be successful when the project is completed. Thank you so much.
I’m getting Moira vibes from your voice! Very helpful. A lady in Joann explained this to me so I went in search of a tutorial on KZread. Thanks!

I love this. Thanks Laura
Thank you so much. Great video. Just what I needed.
Thank goodness i found this video. I don't like doing binding, frankly it doesn't like me either I think haha, so I needed to see this.
Great tutorial. Thank you so much
Awesome. Funnily enough as my first ever qiilting project, I've just made 3 blankets using a similar technique but with a jelly roll quilt top! My grandchildren love their 'cuddle quilt'. Lol.

I’m doing the same thing! I’m using some leftover to do a quilt as you for the top and plush fuzzy fabric for the backing
Excellent video, Laura! :)
You're a great teacher
So clear and easy to understand! I just made my first lap quilt that is a self binding style. I made it from quilting cotton but could not for the life of me get the mitered corners to work. I’ve done mitered corners for napkins but I couldn’t get them to work on my quilt. I sewed them square and as neatly as possible. But I would love to figure out how to do the proper miter on the quilting cotton version.
Someday I will be smart enough to just come and check out your video first ! Instead of watching 15 videos on the technique I’m trying to do when I’m going to pick yours anyhow!
the best explanation! Thank you!
Thank you, this was so easy to understand.
Beautiful hair, Beautiful instructions.... greatly appreciated...new sewing subie....

Your voice is everything ☺what a beautiful video ...i'm subcribing . Your explaination is so detailed. You did a great Job !
Thank you for pattern!😀
Hi Laura and thanks a lot! 😎🌸
Great tutorial.
I ws looking for a tutorial like this and probably watched 5 or 6 of them, which left me utterly confused.... and then suddenly I remembered----YOU! I said to myself, Self, why don't you go check out Laura at Sew Very Easy, she will know how to explain this without all the mystery". So, here I am! And of course I was right! You did explain this PERFECTLY! Just like everything you do! Thank you so much for this, and ALL your other tutorials that have been teaching me how to sew! I am making a baby bargello quilt for my niece's baby. I've never made a bargello, and have actually only completed 3 real quilt, (still sewing on the binding on my last one). But I sort of have a knack for this ( at least that's what a few people have told me). I only know that for some reason I just LOVE sewing, especially sewing quilts! And I now have so much fabric it's insane! My grandmother was a professional seamstress and as I was growing up I sat beside her and I watched her and talked with her about what she was doing. I've made a few things over the years (by ear, the same way I play music) and they have turned out pretty good, but I always wanted to become a really good quilter. I love quilts so much, sometimes their beauty brings tears to my eyes. So much love, so much work, so much thought, goes into each quilt. They are just so beautiful. I'm a grandmother with an 18 & 20 year old grandkids, and a 2 year old great grandson, and I just want to say that it's never too late to begin something new! So off I go to add this "sew very easy" self binding cuddle fabric to the back of my baby bargello quilt! Thanks again for all you do! You are just awesome!
Thank you Laura!
Omg you’re amazing.
Easy to understand . thanks
LOVE THIS❣️TY JAN
Awesome thank you ❤
Thank you Laura 😘
I love every thing you do !!! I wish tho you could do some more things for grandkids, like the quiet book you doing everything step by step and give a list of what is need and measurements. There is not one fully step by step video that truely shows how.
Thanks I will try.
Thank you!
thank you! I always learn so much from your tutorials. Do you think I could try this on a puff blanket? I was thinking, to not stuff the ends around...
I love that ruler technique to make sure it’s 2 inches. Love your tutorials 💜
I love it
I really like it, 😃😃😃😃😃😃
Great video! I keep coming back to it time and again. I do have a question though. What if you are working with cotton that would fray?
Very cute
Thank you!!!!
Many thanks
Thank you so much,as am going to become a grand maa,it's a very good tutorial, will u upload a video of babynest
It seems to be a great way to do it but I like to add a quilting material between my 2 pieces of flannel.
So is there a way I can do this when I already have my quilt and batting finished? I am trying to figure out how to do the self binding.
Would it look right to use this as a backing on a regular quilt top? If so, would I use batting and would I still do the borders as you just did? Thank so much for all your help. Stay Safe
Does this method only work if the back fabric is a perfect square. Can it be 36x58
Can you use cotton fabric too, for one of the layers?
Love this! Can you use spray adhesive to secure the middle piece instead of tacking or will it come out in the wash? TFS❤

That's what I would do for sure - spray baste the middle part to hold it place. But I would make the mitered corners first, then spray bast the center in.

it will all depend on the spray, get a permanent one, and spraying it together first is also a time saver:)
You explain how to do it saw easy I will try this tomorrow
Would this technique work for a rectangle shaped blanket?
I always LOVED the Shannon cuddle fabric but never used it. I noticed it’s kind of messy when you were cutting, which is no big deal, but just wanted to ask if it’s stops shedding like that when the project is complete?

Whenever I make something with cuddle fabric I always give it a really good shake outdoors when I'm done (I shake the sh!t out of it - LOL!) and then it's fine after that. You could also wash & dry it in the dryer and then FOR SURE all the loose fuzzies will come off and be caught in the lint trap ;)
