This time we are making a 9 panel mirror, suitable for hanging in a hallway, an entrance way or any other place that you want to give the illusion of being slightly larger.

One of the great features of mirrors is that they can make small areas appear larger. This makes them a great addition to small entrance ways, narrow hall ways or any other place that is confined. The version we made has 9 panels, so it resembles a only wooden window that someone has converted to mirrors. The one we made actually works a bit better than an old window frame because all the mirror panes are glued to a single backing sheet. This ensures all the mirrors are on the same plane so that when you look into the mirror it looks "normal", very often when you attach mirrors to an old window frame some of the mirrors are often out of align with other which gives the effect that they are not aligned .... and they aren't. This effect can be annoying to the user or view of the mirror. The way to solve the problem is putting all the mirrors on a single plane or sheet of plywood as I did.
Another trick is using dark colors for the frame, what this does is help to focus the looking into the mirrors rather than looking at the frame. Finishing the mirror with Osmo ensures a satin finish that does not distract from the purpose of the mirror ... a place to look into.

    What a beautiful finish! I think I will tackle this project, and hang it in our 1/2 bath. I just love how you explain the process, easy to understand, and not intimidating. Thank You! -Steven

    Nice project Colin. I especially like your videos where you have repetitive tasks, you show the first one regular speed so we can see the result then speed up the remaining duplicate tasks. We don't need to see anybody drilling 17 holes at regular speed. Thanks again

    Hi I just subscribed. I am a crafter with a miter box with saw. I would like to make a simple window frame / pane. A wood frame that only holds a pane of glass. What type of wood would you suggest? Should I use glue and my staple gun on the joints?

    Hey Colin, great videos. I have a question. What would you recommend for stains for a Winchester Shotgun I am restoring. I sanded the stock and forearm down, added glue to the cracks, now I need to stain it. What would be the best brand for that?

  • @knecht105

    @knecht105

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Matthew George Hi Matthew, for coloring gun stocks I prefer to use a dye such as those sold by Lee Valley, but others sell them as well. When you say you added glue to the cracks, was this to done as a filler or did you use the glue then clamp the wood back together again? You will want to check your glue joints with some rubbing alcohol to make sure it has not glazed the wood because stains or dyes cannot penetrate glue. You may need to sand it down a wee bit in that area.

    I clamped the wood down after gluing the cracks down again. And yes I have sanded it and its as strong as an ox and smooth as can be

    +Charlie Wood Wow, yeah a 5 inch hole is big chunk to be hand drilling, as you say if you have a powerful drill, a hole that size can certainly do some damage. thanks for commenting and sorry to hear what happened.
