Im gonna make several of these cause this looks like I could use a fishing pole instead of my usual string and net method. Liked the video. Thanks

How do you secure the other end of the line once you pull it through the wire?

I am in the process of building my own crab snare. One of the tips that I would like to add is this: If you use weed-whack filament, it may have been wrapped tightly in it's packaging causing it to have a tight storage "memory" on it. This will cause very small loops to be formed. The cure for this is to cut the filament to a good length, apply a swedge loop to one end, then hang that loop off a flat surface ( i used a table vice). Once suspended, clamp a vice grip onto the loose end. This forces the filament to straighten out through the "magic" of gravity. Take a blow drier and gently warm the filament to help relax the memory in the filament. Do not warm the filament too much - just enough to become slightly warm to the touch. Let the filament hang like that for a few hours to remove the tight "memory" radius on the filament before you finish attaching the snare loops to your trap. I hope that this helps!

Legally speaking, is a crab snare considered to be a hand line. I would think so. Any idea?

Hi, where in Florida are you? I'm in the Tampa Bay area. Are crab snares legal statewide? I'm from the NE and they aren't legal where I crabbed. Due to a medical problem that arose, I no longer can run traps from a boat anymore so I'm kinda land locked. I want to try them out, sounds like they are quite productive. How many are you allowed to use at a time in FL? Thanks.... \\\\\\\\\\]\\\

Well that last bit wasn’t clear. “You have a loop at both ends and just pull”. Pull on what? The leader? What’s the loop at the other end doing?

Well I made a few of these and my results were pretty sad. I have yet to snare my first blue crab with one of these. My main problem with them is that the snare hoops get completely tangled up with each other rendering all of the hoops basically useless. Gotta find a better way without spending a bunch of money but this particular snare simply does not work for me. Thanks anyway.

The thin fishing line will become a problem. You have to use a thicker wire: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h2tnydZpotuogqQ.html so that the loops stay open and are NOT too flimsy.
