How to Make a Crab Snare for $1.78

These DIY crab snares only cost $1.78 each to make. While they are pretty cheap, they are also incredibly effective at catching Dungeness crab and rock crab from shore (jetty or beach) without a boat in Washington state. I’ll show you how to make a crab snare and talk a little about how I fish with them. A 4-ounce weight would add another $1.50 on to the total cost. I fish with 4-8 ounces of weight depending on the current.
Supplies are listed below. You can get most of them at your local hardware store or order them online. The prices were pretty similar. Most of these items aren’t sold as singles so you’re just going to have to buy more than what you would need for a single snare, but chances are you’ll go through a few snares in a season anyway and all your friends will want one too once they see how easy and effective these are at catching crab...so the more the merrier. The roll of cage wire makes something like 72 crab snares though.
May you catch all the crabs and may they only be the good kind ;)

Having lost 4 store bought snares to the sea, I decided it was time to make my own. I like your design the best and have made 5 so far. Hopefully, I can get them in the ocean before the season ends in Norther California. Thanks!

Clear conscience instructions very easy to follow, I like to twist the line going through the crimps so the loops are pointing upwards it increases the chances of snagging the crab upon retrieval ATB Spam.

Wow so smart and intuitive, also fun to make and rewarding when you catch your crab. This method also doubles-down and you can also go fishing if you want as well. Thanks for sharing!
