How to make a Biltong Box

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I show you how I made this biltong box; it's a simple and easy weekend project. In another video, I'll show you how to make biltong using this box, or any like it.

I made a cabinet with a blue UVC lamp and a pc fan and a meter to check the humidity. and it works perfectly, i imitated the drying cabinet from my work in the slaughterhouse. the dimensions are W/H/D 100x200x50 cm

Thank you for making this Video. I’m going to try .. I have a ? Is the light not to close to the meat? I’ve seen some put directly on the bottom? Also what wattage is the light ? Did your meat turn out great we’re the light is or would you move it ? Thank you looks amazing

Hi, the bulb is a very low wattage. It's really only there to help with airflow, by having a bulb that's is only warming up enough to be slightly warmer than the normal air temperature, it will then create a draft. You definitely do not want a bulb that can get warm enough to heat up the meat in any way that could "cook" it. Having the bulb at the bottom, would certainly be a better option, but in mine, it didn't cause any issues at all. I can't remember what the wattage was, maybe 10 watts or something like that.

Nice setup. I would change a couple of things. Place the light at the bottom and put a small computer fan on the top. Then eliminate the top vent holes and put them on the bottom. In this way you get a wind tunnel effect. I use a computer fan with adjustable speed so I can more precisely control the airflow. That’s what works for me anyway. Make of that what you will.

@@jeremysiegel1106 no, I left it raw, but that would probably be a good idea.

Nice. We considered making one out of corflute as well, to show how to make an inexpensive version as well... but I got lazy :)

Doesn't really matter, but on the bottom, all the heat from the bulb travels up and past the meat. At the top, it creates some heat that passes straight out the top, away from the meat and still creates enough draft to get the air moving... to be honest though, that's all semantics; either is fine in reality.
