Nice car. I did the same thing a few years ago. I love it. Lsx is the way to go. Mine is a lq4 6.0 with ls3 heads and 90 mm ls3 intake. Nitrous outlet plate with a 175 hp shot going thru a 4l80 then a Denny’s driveshaft billet carrier bearing to a 9in ford. I abuse it all the time. Probably sprayed 300 lbs of juice thru it. No trouble what so ever. Keep the videos coming!!!!!!!

Fuel pump is a Walbro 255 mounted just foreword from the stock tank with a corvette filter/pressure regulator return is running into the filler tube. Exhaust is BRB shorty headers then doug’s electic cutouts too 3in mandrel bent done by Hanksville Hotrods in South Denver

Curt Schnitzer - that’s awesome. Thank you! I initially had a single 4 inch exhaust from front to back and it sounded amazing. Sadly my state inspector didn’t appreciate it so now I have to switch it to be less loud. This means I also have to move my fuel pump and filter because I mounted them on the frame on the passenger side where the exhaust runs. So they are now in the way of the dual exhaust. Annnnd that’s what I’m currently working on .

David Cuevas - I believe that 5.3L has cathedral port heads, and the LS3/L92 has rectangle port heads. So the LS3 intake is not able to be swapped onto a 5.3L unfortunately. I believe there are some LS1 Intakes that would bolt into a 5.3L though.

Hey Jeremy I picked up my LS 5.3 ordered the bell housing and flywheel today I was just wondering the original clutch cannot be used and if not what clutch did you go with it mentions 11 inch and also the pilot bearingOn all other fees they mention some kind of adapter would you happen to know what this is thanks

I used this clutch: www.1aauto.com/clutch-set/i/1atck00037 and I believe the clutch kit comes with 2 different styles of pilot bearing. I think I used the larger one in my fancy flywheel.

What Master Cylinder are you using? I put a 5.3 in my 64 Impala SS. Engine didn't come with an intake manifold or many other parts, so carbureted for now. Was cheaper and easier at the time. Anyway another temp fix to get it going was to make my own bracket for #7 coil pack to move away from the master cylinder. would like to go w a duel like yours with a smaller diameter as well. Eventually front disc brakes. You didn't mention your driveshaft either. I'm running a 4L60E w stand alone harness. Had to have my drive shafts cut to fit

I’m currently using a master cylinder and brake calipers that are for a 72 GTO. The master has a 1 1/8 bore and calipers have a 3 inch bore. I actually swapped back to a bigger brake booster from the 7” because the 7” was not working. I didn’t dig into the problem deeply, but it felt like the engine wasn’t making enough vacuum for the booster. So - I also made a custom ignition coil bracket to work with the bigger booster. My front driveshaft was modified to be the right length for my Muncie 4-speed, but it is actually just a stock length driveshaft for a factory 4-speed car (mine was not).

Dent Man - since I’m using Camaro accessories, I’d go with a Camaro ac compressor and bracket too, but there are now a few companies out there that make brackets for nearly any combo of parts you have. Truck, Camaro, corvette, GTO.... check out ICT Billet. They have tons of great stuff for doing exactly what you want.

The LS requires a speed sensor if you have an automatic transmission from what I recall. Mine is a manual, and therefore I don’t use one. That being said, you can buy a speed sensor that goes in between the transmission and the speedo cable. It is a super simple design and apparently works well from what I’m told. Good luck with the 63!!

EZElk - I sadly don’t have any video of the Impala gas tank. However, I can tell you that I bought a new gas tank, then I welded a small steel plate to the bottom of the new tank. Probably like 3x4 inches. Then I drilled two holes through it and welded two -8AN bungs to it. I only use one, but I figured it would be good to have an extra just in case I turbo the engine and need more fuel. Then up on the passenger side of the gas tank I welded another small steel plate and bung for a fuel return line to hook in. So far - it seems to work! :) The steel plate was just to spread out any force from the fuel line movement. The gas tank is thin and I didn’t want the bung to rip away from the tank.

It's frustrating watching conflicting info from different peoples swaps. Some people say they bolted in the 99-02 Camaro pan and it was a direct fit, others are cutting and using spacers... I have time to plan, but I swear after mine is done, I will have the only usable well documented guide on how to do this in these cars...

NFA RC - I totally get it. Honestly with the camaro pan being as close to the frame as it is, it’s worth it to just notch the crossmember and not use spacers. I’d bet the difference is within the rubber motor mounts. Different manufacturers probably use different thicknesses, which accounts for the space vs. no space.

I’ve learned so much from your channel on showing how to make blinkers how to fix all the lighting and electrical and I learned how to make my LS engine on my 64 from stock four-speed I had to make it up powerglide automatic, because I never knew you could use the four-speed Muncie transmission that came with the 409 I had the 409 rebuilt but I like the LS better you showed me how to use the transmission. Thank you very much sir keep up the good work love the channel best content on KZread.💯🏆

I swapped my 62 impala, I put a 5.7 2000 camaro engine..I have a similar master cylinder like on your impala.. the last coil hits master cylinder..Did you change your master cylinder, see that it doesn't hit like mine..thanks

I modified the coil bracket on the driver side so that the 4th coil sits sort of below the 3rd coil. It seems to work great!

im nearly finished my 1961 LS1 & 4l60e swap. great video, i did things a little differently, but very close. i used a holley sump without the need to notch the cross member and use plates to lift the engine. just a quick question, is the top radiator hose a suburban upper hose cut down?

I TIG welded it all to my tank, because I love doing it, but I'm sure MIG welding would be fine too. Just make sure you test it for leaks before putting it in the car. When I was done, I filled mine with water and let it sit for a day to see if any drips happened. Then when I was sure that it was sealed tight, I coated the entire outside of the tank with POR-15.

Hi Jeremy, I am also putting a LS in front of a 4 speed Muncie. I am reading conflicting articles on if I need a VSS or not to let the computer know if the vehicle is moving or not. Some articles I read say that you will have idle problems or even stalling without one and other articles say they never had a problem without one. Did you use a VSS on your swap? I was planning on using a GPS speedo so I plugged the manual speedo hole in the side of the transmission. Any guidance is appreciated.

Sherril Hammonds - my impala does not have a speed sensor, and it idles and drives great. That being said, I also have spoken with several people on the topic who tune these engines and they all recommend adding a speed sensor. Apparently it will make the computer happier and tune more accurately because it has more data to work with. So, I do intend on adding the sensor at some point, probably in the spring. Hope that helps you out!

Can i asked why you used all camaro Components Harmonic .. i was going to use everything from truck just change intake out

I seen other videos saying the old clutches get ruined quickly and to use ls clutches . My question is how often do you drive and hows it holding up? My tempest is gonna be a daily so dont want to buy 1 that wont last

kenneth gonzalez - great info! I haven’t driven mine enough to know whether this will last or not. I have less than 1000 miles on it for sure. That being said, I’m not sure why the clutch would care if it’s attached to an LS or an old small block. I would think they would wear the same if the horsepower is comparable. I’ll be interested to see how long it lasts. Do you have a link to where you saw this info? I’d love to read about it.

Great video! Very helpful! One question though, did you move the engine back any or did you use the mounts that put it in the stock location? How is the clearance at the back of the engine? I want to locate my coils back there. Thanks!

James Scott - the Muncie transmission is using the stock mount, which leads me to believe the engine is in the stock position as well. Behind the cylinder heads is about 1 inch. It’s pretty damn close to the firewall.

I used the stock gas tank and used an external fuel pump. I’m probably going to swap to a Holley in tank pump though because it’s quieter and a cleaner install.

Bradley Dunford - V8 64 impala rubber mounts and frame stands with the cheap $30 ebay LS swap adapters that mount on the engine block. I also added ~1/16 inch steel plate between the frame stands and frame to raise them up a hair.

Unfortunately I’m not really sure. I casually worked on it as I had a few hours here and there over the course of a month or two. If I were forced to make a guess, I’d say 30-40 hours?

I used a Camaro power steering pump hooked into my stock steering box. I’ll probably upgrade to the CPP 500 box soon though. I hear it is way better.

What radiator did u use and did it have a port for the steam ports?

Jeremy, very nice video and installation. I have a 1966 Chevelle with a bad 1992 454 Gen 5 engine and a Muncie 4 speed. My Muncie is a 1967 M20. I think that it has the coarser spline front shaft. It has the clutch Z Bar ball on bracket that bolts to a bellhousing bolt. This engine does not have a hole on the engine block either to mount the ball to. Do you think that this bellhousing would bolt up to an LS engine? Wonder if the current 11" clutch and pressure plate would work? Another question for you. Is your Walbro 255 External fuel pump real loud? I am thinking about a Walbro 450 in the tank but that would probably be a lot more work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Subscribed. EZElk - Hello! I am not completely sure, but based on my research, your bellhousing and clutch should work fine. The only thing you will have to sort out as far as mating the two together is the flywheel. You can probably get the same flywheel I did, though you should measure your bellhousing first to be sure it will fit inside. My factory 1964 3 speed Manual bellhousing bolted up to my LS great, but there aren’t any flywheels small enough for the bellhousing that attach to an LS. I had read that a big block bellhousing would have worked fine. That being said, finding a good one was nearly the same price as the LS-Swap bellhousing I ended up buying. My walbro is definitely noticeable with the engine off and the pump on. However, the 4” exhaust I have drowns out everything... so the pump noise is not noticed. You could always start with an external pump (they are cheap and easy) and then go to a fancy in tank pump later on if you are annoyed by the whining. :)

If the pcm isn't flashed will the car crank over at all?

lordcycle - I’ve read that the engine will be able to start, and then it will immediately turn off. I haven’t actually tried this myself though.

I did have the VATS deleted, there are several people online that you can mail your pcm too and they will flash the PCM for a very reasonable price (and delete the VATS too). I basically removed anything I wasn’t using. There are some guys on LT1swap.com that are great for wiring info. I highly recommend checking them out.

I actually have not had it on the highway, but I have had it up to maybe 55-60 on other roads and it felt very normal to me. So overall I’m happy with the setup I’ve got.

It’s a small one, I believe 7”. That being said, I like the bigger one better. I’m going to see if I can make the bigger one work again because I feel like my brake assist isn’t as good as it once was.

I used silverado wiring and followed the instructions on LT1swap.com it’s really not bad at all to do yourself. I just removed the stuff I wasn’t going to use, like A/C, rear o2’s, Evap, etc.

Tony Tea Man Ganther - hello! I think you’ll want the LS1 style oil pan, which is what I used. I used stock V8 engine mounts on the frame side with ~1/8” - 1/4” spacers under them. On the engine side, I used the same eBay adjustable LS swap engine plates that everyone uses. What brake booster did you use? Can’t get the coil packs to clear on cylinder five and seven.

I made a custom coil bracket that moves my rear coil. I tried the 7 inch booster and it didn’t work for a reason that I never solved. I swapped back to a 9 inch (I believe, I can double check tomorrow), and moved my rear coil and all was good. What motor mounts are you using?

I would love to make these brackets for people, but it involves drilling and tapping holes in your engine block. That’s something that most people aren’t very comfortable with because it can go wrong pretty quickly. I also would need to take mine out of my car as a template, which I can’t do for a bit because I've got other cars apart in my garage at the moment. :/

Hello! I believe they are 1997-2001 Corvette manifolds, and you are 100% correct about where I cut them. I took a chance and just ordered some cheap (probably Chinese idk) block hugger headers from ebay. Fit well, and bonus they came with the bungs (plugged) already installed for the O2 sensers

@@coop962014 - I bought a new stock tank (they are under $100), and welded -6AN bungs to it in a variety of places (bottom and sides). Then I pulled and returned the fuel from those.

I haven’t tried it, but my guess is that you would need to notch the crossmember to fit the compressor in the stock location. There are probably high mount options though. Have you checked out ictbillet.com?

Would the camaro ac compressor fit?

What kinda mods did you need to do to put that in

Pretty much just what you see in the video. There isn’t much more to it than buying all the right parts to bolt it together.

@@WiringRescue thanks bro I bought a ls1 5.7 for my 63 impala and the shop is saying wow there's a lot of mods I need to do to make it fit and work so I wanted to see what kinda mods it needs it's all just parts no cutting frame or etc

@@LILGIBBYPRR-ESR - some people do modify the crossmember under the oil pan. I honestly cannot recall if I modified mine or not. I sort of think I didn’t, but it was a long time ago. Make sure you use a 98-02 Camaro ls1 oil pan - that seems to be the one that everyone likes best from what I’ve seen. That’s also what I use. Good luck with the swap - it’s really awesome when done!

I have a serious question can you get a 1960 impala and put a 2000 and something engine in it? I’m thinking about buying this 60 impala So I can have something to think about inside of my addiction to opiates which I easily can quit but I want something to keep my mind off of it

Kc Stricklin - absolutely! This is a 64 Chevy with a ~2007 Cadillac Escalade engine in it. A 1960 Chevy would be similar. The oil pan and engine mounts may be different, but the rest should be pretty much the same. Also - good look with the recovery. I’m cheering for you!

Jeremy N Thanks man that’s a cool idea I’m going to check it out on Monday I’ve got over 2 kilos of silver that I’ve been saving I’m going to see if he wants to trade some silver or cash. It’s a 1960 something year model in Paula it’s a couple blocks away from my house for sale. He actually has one in really good shape in one for sale that’s not really good shape. I think it might’ve been a car that he used for the parts. Which I’m hoping he didn’t

I bought a new stock tank and welded some -8AN and -6AN bungs to it. Then I pulled fuel from the tank with an external walbro 255 pump. The return line dumps back into the tank as far away from the feed line as I could get, because I didn't want to aerate the fuel being pulled. Also - I use a corvette style "returnless" style fuel filter and regulator. It's really a simple, cheap, nice setup.

Hi Jeremy,I am stumped again,I see you got the ls2 intake.my bud gave me an intake off an 2005 gto 6.0 I am having a problem determining what throttle body to use since I am doing a drive by cable,I see you did a brive by,what throttle body did you use?

Socorro Tapia - hello again! I have a gigantic edelbrock throttle body on mine. I’ll check it in a few minutes and see if there is a part number on it.

Socorro Tapia - I just looked it up and it is super expensive. I assume there must be cheaper options out there. I’m just not sure what those cheaper options are. Honestly, I’m not in love with this throttle body. The throttle is super sensitive which I don’t care for. A smaller throttle body would probably be much more driver friendly.

Cynthia mendez - I used a Lokar universal cable, but I’m not sure of the length. It was very easy to install though!

If I use a 2000-2004 Silverado 5 3 do I still have to use all the Camaro stuff

You definitely need to swap the oil pan, and I’m not sure if the stock intake manifold will fit under the hood. I would guess it would hit the hood. I never tried with mine. I would guess you can use the truck Waterpump, alternator, and harmonic balancer, though again, I have not actually tried it. Sorry I don’t have more info for you!

I modified the stock Silverado wiring harness, and I use an external walbro 255 fuel pump. I bought a new tank and welded -6AN fittings to it which is where I return the fuel to. I pull the fuel through the stock sending unit and it seems to work fine so far. I probably would recommend pulling fuel from the bottom of the tank in higher horsepower scenarios.

What rear end are you using?

63 Impala rag Dude I mounted it in the middle of the car on the passenger side of the frame. It’s probably not the best place, I’d recommend putting it in a different spot.

63 Impala rag Dude - it’s on the outside of the frame, but I hate it there because it’s now in the way of the dual exhaust that I’m building for it. So I may either move the fuel pump, or have to get really creative with my exhaust install. I haven’t quite figured that out just yet.
